you need to go into your router settings (http://192.168.1.1 should be the default) and set your wireless network settings. Remember them (type of encryption, network name (SSID), and so on), then go on the laptop and input them so you can connect.

I don't think its an encryption issue since your laptop cannot even see the router. Make sure SSID broadcast is turned on.

Is your work laptop using some sort of special software to deal with the wireless? You might have to go through that instead of the Windows network settings.

It has nothing to do with Encryption. Even with encryption, you should still see the access point.
Check to make sure you have the wireless turned on.

Did you try to manually add a network? Just add the SSID and ency, it should recognize it, providing the hardware is working.

Yeah, type that IP into your web browser, and go to the wireless settings.
Enable the wireless if it's not already enabled, and you should be able to see it. Then put a password, so no one else can access your network.

Whats the model of your laptop?
There should be a button on the keyboard that looks like an antenna?

Simply put:
1. Post your router wireless settings.
2. Take a screenshot of your wireless survey.

this is what i'm thinking to...try this..
1. right click on "my network places" and go to properties OR go into control panel and double click on "network connections".
2. right click on "wireless network connection" and click properties.
3. go to "wireless networks" tab. check the box "use windows to configure my wireless network settings" then click ok. double check to see if that box is checked by going into the settings again. then view the available networks.
*if that is already checked you may have to enter your wireless ssid and info manually if you cannot see it as you may not be broadcasting your ssid. or the fact that the wireless on the router is not on. check those settings.

Fn+F5. Make sure your 802.11 wireless radio is turned on.
