I have an old workstation that I want to hook up to my tv (standard definition) to watch videos and listen to music through my receiver. However, the computer is old and only has an AGP 4x slot. What AGP video cards are best for this configuration? I think some 8x cards are backwards compatible but I could be wrong.

Pentium 4 1.7 GHz
512 MB RAM
Intel D845PT Motherboard
ATI Video Card (It is basic, equivalent to onboard graphics with no TV out option)

Thanks

I have never seen any AGP8x cards that weren't keyed for 4x use. Just get the cheapest AGP card you can find with the proper output.

Since it is gonna to output to SD TV, any video card with TV-out will do.

BTW, does your TV has S-Video IN ?? It should look something like this ...

Am I to assume that any and all 8x AGP cards will work with the 4x AGP slot in my motherboard? I would like a video card that has a relatively quite fan and runs cool without the need for additional case fans. As for my TV, it has coax, composite and s-video type connections in the back.

I have been looking for older cards but if I can use any 8x card it will open up the search.

There are quite a few low-end AGP cards that'll suit your needs and don't need a fan. You should be able to pick one up for $10-20 used.
