Had a bad experience with an HVAC repair company.

So I am now looking into at the Furnace and AC Insurance/Service Plans offered by many of the utility and HVAC companies.

Has anyone researched what plans are good and what ones are bad? What "fine print" type things should I expect?

I have a medium efficiency furnace that is getting on in years. The A/C was installed in 2006.

Any advice is appreciated!

I just had my vent motor go on my high efficency. I paid 179 for the repair with the requirement that I sign up for the maintenance plan. I said yes right away. I have had friends who have also dealt with Direct Energy and swear that I should have been on a maintenance plan a while back. I live in Ontario and don't know if Direct Energy services other parts of Canada.

The service people who came to my house were courteous and immediately took off there shoes before walking beyond my foyer. They were all very polite and informative.

It seems in these days of high efficency furnances, there are many parts that fail. The electronics on these newer furnances are great for efficency, though hard on the pocket for reliability and repairs.

My dad's furnance lasted over 20 years and he only replaced a cheap motor.

Who would be the major players in this area in Ontario? And how much would this cost?
