Not sure if this has been posted but I did a search and didn't find a thread on it.
TSCC is clearing out a variety of battery packs for $0.96 per pack. For example, there are Dora/Spongebob packs with 1-9v, 4-ÀAA or 4-AA, Panasonic Oxyride 2-AA, and Nexxtech in all sizes.
Here are a couple of examples of what's available:

http://www.thesourcecc.com/estore/product.aspx?language=en-CA&catalog=Online&category=Zinc+Chloride+Batteries&product=2300780
Seems like the best value are in the 9v and AAA packs.

Very common. Batteries are based on a chemical reaction. The longer the battery sits... That's why a lot of people suggest that you keep your new batteries in the fridge until you need them.

Good to know just like rechargables... some say you can help revive them by putting them in the freezer (and dead hard drives ).
I still think the Maxell batteries are better from Wal~Mart though $7 odd for 48 AA or 36 AAA :)

I've never seen the AAA Maxell packs at Walmart, but I've not purchased batteries for a long time. Seriously? They sell the Maxell AAA, 36, for only $7 or so? If so, I'd probably just buy those.
Does anyone know what brand makes the spongebob and Dora batteries?
Thanks! :)
And thanks, OP, too, for posting!

+1 for Walmart packs if I'm not using rechargeables.

Argh, those D cells are crappy Zinc Chloride batteries. The Dora 9V are at least Alkaline :).

The (heavy duty) zinc chloride cell is an improvement on the original zinc-carbon cell, using purer chemicals and giving a longer life and steadier voltage output as it is used. Instead of an electrolyte mixture containing much NH4Cl, it is largely only ZnCl2 paste. -from Wiki
I'm betting those D Cells are a lot better than the dollar store D Cells.

Zinc Chloride batteries are old technology and have about 1/3 the capacity of Alkaline batteries.

I believe these terms didn’t start out as misleading. For example the term Heavy Duty battery was used to refer to Zinc chloride batteries which had about 50% more capacity than traditional carbon zinc batteries. But that was 50 years ago! Calling zinc chloride batteries heavy duty became misleading once alkaline batteries with 300% more capacity than zinc chloride batteries became available.

Yup they started appearing just after new years (the AAA that is) :) Wal~Mart also posted them as a special in their flyer (last week I think it was)

I don't know if its a repost or not. I bought sponge bob packs when the last deal was posted and they are good until mid 2013.

Don't buy those Maxell batteries, they really gave Maxell a bad name. I bought one pack I think $7.99 for 48, and they sure can't last long even on wall clocks.

Apparently Memorex from CrappyTires and Kirkland from Costcos are better alternatives.

actually, in the last WM flyer, WM advertised the 48pk AA Maxells and (supposedly new item) 36pk AAA Maxells, both for same price $7.XX IIRC

Hi. A bit off topic I'm sorry, I'm sure there's a good website out there to view and discuss battery topics. for instance I read somewhere the sony ( or was it sanyo?) were the best rechargeables , as they keep their charge...
do you know of a good forum with reviews?
thanks for your time

The College Park location in Toronto has lots of the Dora 9V batteries with 2013 expiry. Just a heads up for people in the area ;)
