I was looking to get a widescreen monitor and I went to Futureshop in downtown Toronto yesterday. They have the HP w2207 (refurb) on sale for $299. It is definately the best monitor in it's class with Brightview (glossy) screen. I thought this deal was only a web-only deal, but they have it in-store too. Crazy monitor for $299. BTW, it looked mint when I examined it and comes with all cables including DVI.

I have this monitor and it is hands down the nicest monitor I have ever owned. Games are awesome on it too. :D
I'm not so sure 299 for a refurb is all that great though as it's 349 new at Bestbuy.

Just be careful with the refurbs.. one of them is mine since I bought a w2207 in December and it had a dead pixel - exchanged it for a new one which had a perfect LCD. The colours look very accurate out of the box without any adjustments... I was impressed! Damn happy with my purchase :) Plus it's got HDCP, so I just bought a DVI to HDMI adaptor and I can hook up anything HD to this baby.

This is the monitor FS was clearing out for free w/ clearance quad core desktops last week.
Concidering they were giving them away to get rid of them, I wouldn't pay full price :)

The Dell doesn't compare to the HP. The HP is a better monitor.

The HP does have better contrast ratio and a better stand. I am just saying, if you can accept dead/stuck pixels on a refurb, then I gues this is for you.

I bought a new Samsung 22" and got 1 stuck pixel. I returned it and took the chance with the refurb HP 22" . No dead/stuck pixel. I am very happy with it. Better built than the Samsung too.

The HP is practically the best 22" monitor out there from what I've heard but it's a glossy panel so it's not good in places where there is too much sunlight

So thats why the Online order/instore pickup free 22" refub Monitor deal was dead since they are going to reprice it at $300 and resell them!

HP, Viewsonic etc.are all the same. Grade B.
Buy a Samsung. HP/Viewsonic are not even in the same universe with Samsung.

22" TN refurb for $299? I've never heard of this HP monitor being particularly outstanding either
Also refurbished... there's only one reason why it would be refurbished, bad display. Don't see how this is a deal. If anything I'd pay a bit extra and get a good, new screen. Staring at dead pixels isn't worth a few bucks.

This monitor is $399 at Staples in-store. I think you saw the 20" which is $299 in-store. No dead pixels on mine. BTW, I checked my refurb and the panel is actually made by Samsung. It's beautiful.

Refurbished does not mean there is something wrong with the product. A returned item can be repackaged as "Refurbished" I got a Refurbished HP and it looks new. Nothing wrong with it. Besides, you have 14 days to returned the monitor to FS if there is something wrong.

Hi RFDers!!! :)
I was just wondering which brand name is the best for LCD monitors?
There are so many to choose from I not sure what to buy.
How would you guys/girls rank these brands?
Acer, NEC, BENQ, HP, Samsung, ViewSonic, LG, Sony???
Thanks for your help.

I am very sure it was the 22" at Staples store, I almost bought it myself, it said $100 off, regular price was $399. I also looked at the 20", it was the same price. But it was last week, not sure if it is still on sales or not.
Another RFD'er also mentioned it was $299 in Montreal for a brand new one at Staples store.

You need Dell on your list. I'd put it ahead of anything above.

Just go and ask them to check the price for the 22", it will ring up at $297;)

Well I'd take my AL2223WD over my bro-in-laws HP w2207 anyday.
I really don't like that you have to run the brightness & contrast up so high on the HP just to get any decent visible picture - maybe I'm just more of a matte than a gloss guy
But I must admit the HP does beat my monitor in terms of colour reproduction... more visible shades but still not for me
As they say above Dell is king their 24" used to be wonderful, until as usual they must of tried to reduce the production costs... many complaints.

None of you seem to understand the brand is half the story. For the w2207 there are THREE different panels possible, only 1 of them is Samsung, the other is LG, and Innolux.
On the box should say STM001 if it is a samsung, the other 2 have major issues with backlight bleeding.
The Samsung 226bw also has 3 different panels possible, but isnt remotely as bad as the w2207 panel lottery, since after calibration the results are similar.
Approach the w2207 with caution.
