I really need a laptop for school (eng. student), should i pull the trigger on this one or no?

If you search in Google for T61P and Memory it'll give you a bunch of sites that will tell you what kind of memory you need, and some will offer to sell it to you to. Like this one: http://www.memory-up.com/Memory/IBMThinkPadT3720.html. As long as you match the specs, you can buy it from anywhere, like NCIX or FS, whatever.

As far as OS goes, that's a toss up. Some (many, if not most) still prefer XP. Vista is about to get Service Package 1 release, and to be honest, I quite like Vista (Home Premium), plus you'll have a valid license for it (it's not cheap to buy seperately). It does everything I want it to do, and it works well for me. If you like tinkering with parts and have a million different peripherals, you may want to go with XP Pro.

My two cents, anyways...

Good luck and enjoy!

T61P is a good choice for a laptop. I'd say go for it.

DO NOT GET VISTA!!!! XP Pro is the way to go. Will be cheaper and headache free.

As for the memory you answered your own question in the specs of the laptop:
1 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 (1 DIMM)

So if you want 2GB RAM just get another identical stick of RAM (1 GB PC2-5300).

I can guarantee you that laptop has at least 2 memory slots. If it comes with just 1 filled, then you have 1 more to use.

You won't need more than 2GB of ram, but if you ever do need more ram you can always upgrade when the time comes. It is also a question of whether that motherboard support 2GB memory sticks, but for that you'll have to not be lazy and google.

Thanks for the infos.

The website you posted for the memory is great, but i was wondering if i could just go with the same spec memory from NCIX?
Is there any CL infos that i need to match that oblige me to buy that specific part from the ibm distributor?

Since all my apps now have a vista version, i might go with it, but i was wondering wether i should buy a 32bit or 64 bit version

any thoughts about that, and should i jump on this deal or should i wait (i personally think its a good price since they were lowered around 200$ plus my 500$ off employee discount)

thanks again

English student you say?
Then all you really need is an entry level laptop.
The specs you show here is for a high-end laptop, for computer courses and such.

Sounds the very similar to the laptop im getting for my computer course in Sheridan. haha.

BTW, get XP Pro, less problems when using the school's programs.
