Hey guys sorry I've been away for a little while but I'm back with a smokin' HOT deal!!! Just came back from shopping and tried to get the sony dsc-w80 from BB/FS (on sale for $199.99, down from $249.99) and they both don't have any in stock!!! So just by chance went to Sears and they got it there for $149.99!!! That's a smokin' HOT deal!!! The only catch is the sale is only for this weekend! (Sat. Jan 12 and Sun. Jan 13) So, if you're interested in getting a digital camera, definately check this deal out !@ sears! Very, Very HOT!!!:D

Well, I can't comment on the overall quality of sony cameras, but the sears website says this camera has a Zeiss lens. I didn't know Zeiss made camera lenses, but Zeiss has a reputation for making spectacular binocular/telescope lenses. For $150 and a Zeiss lens, it sounds pretty good to me.

On any Sony compact, Carl Zeiss doesn't do the manufacturing. Sony does - under CZ quality control. They are then allowed to stamp the CZ name onto the lens.

The W80 is a very good value, other than the proprietary Memory Stick. Image stabilization, decent quality build, small optical viewfinder, and overall pretty snappy performance. I don't really like how small some of the buttons are (the playback button being important), but there isn't a whole lot of room for anything else.

Possible but YMMV. Better chance to buy it from FS / BB first and get a price adjustment afterward with your receipt from Sears. May seem alot of work for a small diff.

I pass

Rating Above Average

not a good camers at all.

from DPR

Conclusion - Cons
Slow, unreliable focus in low light
Combined effects of noise and noise reduction at high ISO's and in low light produces poor results
Noise reduction effects visible even at low ISO settings
Fiddly controls and fancy fade effects which make menus feel unresponsive
Screen is low res, has low refresh rate in low light and isn't that bright
Strong red-eye even with red-eye reduction mode
Fairly weak flash with fairly slow recycling
Multi AF can get confused in busy scenes and focus on the wrong area
Image stabilization doesn't seem particularly effective
HDTV output requires additional equipment
Minor issues with highlight clipping and color fringing and flare
Some corner/edge softness
No manual (custom) white balance

Got one too, PM'd at FS as I had a gift card from them from another PM adventure a couple months ago. Initially, FS would not price match as they gave me the strict no online matching policy talk ;) Anyways, I got them to call Sears and they the Sears guy said 230, I told him to ring it in,149! and I was in price match heaven.

There are some mixed reviews on this camera, but I did some reading, I think you just need to have your settings adjusted carefully and you should be ok....we will see, anyone care to offer a review ? I think with any product you get negatives, but overall seems very positive.

Also - cheapest place to buy memory cards for this unit ?

I think its still available online in BC, i tried it recently and it seemed to work, what u can do is print off the order form where its gives you the price quote 134.99 total price 153.xx. Then take it to staples and price match it. Did it tonight 2 get 2 units (in Victoria). And if they tell you that they can only price match 149.99 and not the coupon price of 134.99, then tell them no where on their site does it says they do not except coupon offers or promotions. The CSR told me that they can't do it because it is a coupon price. Once i told him check out your site, you policy doesnt say it, then they honoured it and sold it for 134.99. Just a tip if u really need the camera in your hands soon!

I finally just ened up going to my local Sears store to get it at $149.99 The guy at first tells me he didn't have any more in stock. Then he told to to wait a minute, went in the backstore and low and behold he pulled out two while I was there. Guess they had reserved them but the people didn't pick them up. I also bought the little Sony case for $14.99

Wow... this is a HOT deal. I've been eyeing this camera for a while now but it's always been on sale for $200 at the least, and I already have a free 8GB MS card! Too bad I already have 2 cameras though, since this thing has everything I would want, especially out of this price range! Optical image stabilization, decent speeds, and similar image quality to my Canon SD1000. I actually prefer the Sony's pictures more looking at the samples on Dpreview. They use more aggressive noise reduction and more sharpening/bold colours, which I prefer.

I thought this camera would be nice but I need a camera that can take night shots well. When I checked the review, it said that night shots were not great. I'll have to keep on searching.

If you want a camera that can take good night shots, your only option from point and shoot cameras is the Fujifilm FinePix F31fd. Though I do think this W80 would take better night shots than my SD1000 because it has more noise reduction (at the expense of detail).

Went to Sears this morning, was able to use two early bird coupons for $10 off $50. Had to ask the store manager though about being able to use two, the guys at the electronics department weren't sure. Total came to $146.89 tax in. Excellent deal, thanks OP!

By the way, there were about 8 left at Sherway when I left about half an hour ago.

Just got back from a trip to the Sears store at Carlingwood Mall in Ottawa. We were there when the store opened at 10am and my wife and I each got a $10 off $50 coupon.

We headed directly to the electronics section and I was the first person served. About 2 seconds after I got to the counter another guy (probably an RFD'er too) was right behind me. We got the last two W80s in the store. Total price, $158.19.

Hopefully it's a decent camera! :)

I ordered this camera for my folks. I hope they get it and the order isn't cancelled.

So I start looking for a Sony 1GB Memory Stick PRO Duo to go with this camera. Cruising the web shows that most places have it for $40ish, with some places more (e.g., FS/BB at ~$50) and some places less (e.g., Canada Computers at ~$30).

It turns out Staples.ca has it at $19.97:

http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/cat_sku.asp?webid=607490&AffixedCode=WW

but it is (for me) OOS, of course.

However, I had a store manager meet that price for one I found in-store (SKU 607490).

DpReview

But in low light the W80's performance is much patchier - not because its image quality is particularly poor (it's roughly on a par with all the other 7 or 8MP ultra compacts), but because the focus system, weak flash, slow lens and unimpressive screen (which gets very laggy and grainy in low light) make getting a good shot indoors a challenge

Glad I was able to pricematch at Black's today (I bought it at Black's online for $169 + $15 shipping on Dec 30 thinking that the price won't come down much more after the new year). The lady at Black's had to be convinced that price matching is valid but I like to consider myself as being pretty good at arguing over fine print :cheesygri Luckily Sears wasn't only offering the deal online but also in the store.

My final price from Black's was $149 + $15 shipping (that was a total ripoff) + tax. Not as good of a deal as many of you got, but still a decent one.

I went today to Staples, after calling and putting one on hold. It was the Sheppard and McCowan store. I tried to price match after the receipt posted here for 129$ but they wouldn't budge. I also tried some online codes and they did not work, they were invalid. Afterall... I paid 142.xx +tax (149-10% diff). Not bad. I'm going to buy a new 2GB memory stick, saw them for 29.99$. Also, the only downside I'm having with this camera is the battery charger. Is there any way of charging this camera through some sort of cable so I don't have to take the battery out to charge it. I read online that it has a docking station that also charges... any more info on that?

"Your order history is not available at this time. Please check back later."

I want to order a Memory Card, but not if they might cancel my order.

Saw a similar camera at Costco in Markham (Woodbine and Hwy 7). I don't recall the model #, but it looks the same as the Sears one, and it's a 7.2Mega Pixel as well.

Seems like a good deal for $139.99 and w/ Costco's return policy...

Only thing is on ebay there are tons of fake pro duos. So buyer beware.
I had some trouble formatting a 1gig pro duo on a childs psp (would only format to 32MB). I took it to the guy who unbricked the psp. He told me it was a fake pro duo, coincidentally he had purchased a fake one too. google to learn about fake pro duo identifiers.
