My apologies if I posted this in the wrong forum.
I'm going to be selling appliances that I don't need, but I want to ensure that nobody backs out of the deal or rips me off (i.e. counterfeit money). Anyone have any tips for this? Will I turn off a lot of buyers if I require a deposit? Is it common practice to meet the buyer at a bank and have the funds immediately deposited?

- certified cheque
- money order
- bank transfer (you can always hold on to the item until the funds are verified by your bank)
I am not really sure why you are 'paranoid' about someone ripping you off on a big ticket item such as appliances. Its not like some punk kids are going to come and buy your fridge with counterfeit money.
Either way, it is very easy to spot the fakes now days ...

I've already received a few responses to my ads, including one that is a certified cheque scam. I have very little experience with private buying/selling, so I worry that I won't be able to spot the fakes so easily.
