I don't agree with what was done, but at the same time I can't lie - I was entertained.

wow... what a$$es , this is why I don't read Gizmodo.. where's the professionalism in journalism anymore? It's like a kiddie blog almost

I can't believe how much those announcers were sweating when the TV's shut off (Motorola and Intel)

They took that too far I think. There's the spirit of being fun but that guy at the moto presentation was doing his job. I hate technical glitches during school presentation, so that must have been way worse.

Didn't some guy do something similar on the GO-train? He had an IR device and he reprogrammed all the LED boards on the train to read "Stephen Harper eats babies" IIRC.

Marginally funny. But totally not worth the stress that their prank must've caused to others.

I think Gizmodo must've shot themselves in the foot for this. Messing with motorola? bad idea. And I don't think this prank will happen again; next CES all the IR ports will probably be blocked with tape.

I think Gizmodo should be banned for life from CES

...or you could just walk by and press the power buttons? not much of a difference.

Shouldn't do it either way

I hope they get sued by Motorola and other companies. Companies pay HUGE money to have their booths/setups at CES. They also pay employees and create content for the show. Then crap like this happens. Imagine you whole presentation going to sh*t because you can't show your demo. How do you explain that to your boss?

I hope the bastards get their pants sued off.

By the Motorola presenters seeing all their hard work trying to maintain a smooth show go down the drains? You have to be in elementary school to find their antics entertaining.

They also post on their website "And Panasonic, you're so lucky that 150-incher didn't have an active IR port." Gizmodo, you're so lucky that the companies we're pissed enough to sue you to bankrupcy. Is Gizmodo run by a bunch of pre-pubescent children?

No - I think what they did during a presentation was going much too far over the line. I think it was also too far while they were showing the gamers playing.

But I thought that some of the others were funny. I don't agree with what they did, but as I said, I did laugh over it.

Meh. It was pretty funny up until this part, then I'd agree. He was just doing his job. Still funny though heh :)

I don't see how ruining a guy's business presentation where his job could be on the line is funny.

That's just horrible :(

I feel sorry for the dude doing the presentation...

Oh, I also noticed that when they were shutting off the wall of TVs, it made an upside down cross from the shut off TVs at first :|

Engadget is the real gadget blog - when they screw up, it's a question of journalistic ethics (see the "confirmed" Apple rumor they posted a while ago leading to a sigificant stock drop). ;-)

Gizmodo consists of a bunch of immature, basement dwelling wankers. Seriously, did you read their "senior editor's" reply to the comments on Valleywag? How old is this guy? 12? I hope everyone associated with that site gets banned from all trade shows.

There are mixed reactions to this, with the majority saying it was out of line. I can see having some fun on the wall of TVs, but to do it in a presentation, and then post it on the internet taking credit for it is really really stupid.

Then again, I bet Gizmondo and CES got more traffic over this little incident than ever before. There is no such thing as bad publicity?

With regards to the posting on the internet part....I wonder if this angle works. While messing with other people's presentations is certain being a douchbag, by taking credit for it, they may have saved some jobs.

Yes, not covering the IR ports was an oversight. But at least the problems were due to someone actively screwing with the presentations.

I'm not sure if this would hold water. They could've gone and talked to the management of CEA and let them know what happened. By posting it on the Internet, it suggests that their interest is more in generating more traffic for themselves than the welfare of the people at the show.

It shouldn't be necessary for them to cover the IR ports. Yes, I agree it's an oversight, but are they to expect that people who attend the show who are treated as guests to show such disrespect? Should they shield everything from a portable EMP as well? Guns? Spitballs? Heckling?

My question is the impact it'll have on Gizmodo now. Will companies slowly stop sending them toys before they're released? Will they suddenly find thmselves behind everyone else for content?

Yes I agree. If they don't take actions on this then they are inadvertantly promoting others to do the same or similar at other shows. I can laugh if it was a consumer doing this (laugh at the idiot consumer), but an actual 'press' person just seems unprofessional.

That douchebag Gizmodo reporter is now selling his badge on Craislist (link (http://lasvegas.craigslist.org/clt/536251079.html)). He's really enjoying all the attention that came from all this crap. I don't know why he isn't canned. No one will take Gizmodo seriously from now on (if anyone ever did).
