I'm 50/50. I guess the part I hate the most about being single is when people constantly bug you on you being single. "Do you have a girlfriend yet?" "Howcome you're still single?" "I know this girl..." "Why aren't you married yet?" "It's time to get a girlfriend."

Especially if you're Asian. On several occasions, my parents said some young guys they know might be gay or have issues because they're still single in their mid-20s.

I broke up with my gf a few months ago, I'm enjoying the freedom, it's not so bad, I hated making calls every day and such, just added stress.
However, sometimes it's nice to have someone to be with when you're bored and alone, but that's about all...

Not really, I rejected 2 recently... Feel free to call me a liar though because I can't prove anything (why would I prove something to anyone on "the internets"). When I have my mind set on a certain girl, all the others are out of the way. I'm sure I'm not the only one...
EDIT Oh yeah, I have my reasons for rejecting them though...
But hey, it's a 'relatively free' forum so feel free to think whatever you want.

Yeah? But what if it gets to a point where a certain 'girl friend' (not girlfriend) asks you when and how you lost your virginity? Yeah... my reaction is best described by the "wtf" face

Single and some days suck, some days suck more. >:(
For me the hard part is how lonely it is being single in your mid-late 20s. Prior to this relationship, most of my friends were single so we had awesome times, driving to Halifax to gamble, playing 4 player Xbox games, shooting pool and whatever... then eventually most of us got girlfriends and lost touch. After my breakup, I am the only single one where the others are all married or in committed relationships so I am spending every night alone which sucks massively.
oh, and like the poster above me said, being single with a house is extremely annoying!

So true! A lot of my friends are either married now, in a serious relationship or have kids. And adding fuel to the fire is my mother "casually" dropping the question, "When are you going to get married and give me grandkids?" every now and then.

im 50/50
human nature demands it that we find someone to care for and that will care for us, its from the concept of survival and replication that has been embedded into our subconscious through evolution
for myself, happiness would be having a combination of health, wealth and love
at the moment im still young so i wont be needing that ONE person to love since i do have a lot of friends whom i am happy to be with,
however, having that significant other does create feelings, sensations and emotions you dont usually experience anywhere else and those are always nice to have
oh and having that significant other does translate to more "sexy time"

I disagree. Compare the number of women who are in abusive and unhappy relationships to the number of men. Men just walk away, whereas women don't because they're afraid to be alone.

I agree with najibs on this that women do this more often than men, but men are definitely catching up. I don't think it's a difference of genders, just that a lot of people don't want to be single for too long.
However, the stereotype that men can just walk away isn't true and we all can see some of this in our own friends' emotional states after a breakup whether the guy initiated it or not. Emotions are the same for both men and women, only that our cultural norms don't really allow men to publicly show theirs.

If anything, I think men have a harder time with breaking up / being single then women do.
Studies have shown men fall into love faster and harder then women do.
Granted, this is in the case of a woman-iniated breakup most times:
As has been pointed out, how many of us have friends that are completely crushed and downtrodden after a woman breaks up with them, saying how much they miss her, and how they don't know what to do now..?
And then that woman who just ended it is getting along just fine and maybe is even dating someone / screwing someone else already, when the guy can't even get himself together?
There is no rule of thumb. Some guys and some girls can just cut and run and be fine with it. Some can live single and be fine with it.

Revivalz!
I haven't been single in almost 5 years now. I like the woman I'm with but you got to have some "alone time" or an outing with friends else the relationship becomes too suffocating.
I find that I need to be away from my gf for a couple of days to truly miss her company, that includes no phone calls.
Like someone said already, communication and compromise is very important. Bottle things up too long and well.....not pretty let's just say.
Plus I plan on taking a nice solo european vacation before we move in together, I'm still too young!

Let's not forget when the relatives grill you if you don't have a girlfriend, moreso than friends and acquaintances.
"Why don't you have one?"
"Are you looking?"
"Have you tried?"
"What do you mean 'no'?"
"Are you gay?"

When I was younger I didn't care about stability and had a lot less responsibility back then. I think a good relationship that is honest and fair can enhance your life. Some people on this board will make you believe that stupid rituals of courting are important (ex: asking her father or her 1st grade teacher for permission to marry/date/consummate) but if the person really loves you, they will accept you just the way you are.
Be open minded, if love comes your way embrace it.

Wow, a large number of guys on RFD are single. Wonder why? Coz we're too cheap? Or we're wasting too much time on our computers looking for bargains all day? Most of us are geeks or poor college/high school students? Whatever, RFD should start a dating section, we'll call it "Hot Dates", so that single RFDers can hook up. Guys, stop playing WoW or Call of Duty 4 on a Friday/Sat night and get out more.....
