I want three quadrillion dollars too

Hurricane Katrina's victims have put a price tag on their suffering and it is staggering — including one plaintiff seeking the unlikely sum of $3 quadrillion.

For the sake of perspective: A mere $1 quadrillion would dwarf the U.S. gross domestic product, which Scott said was $13.2 trillion in 2007

just a bit greedy....

hahaha if I was the judge I'd slap the plaintiff.

If these boneheads start their careers (assuming they have the mental capacity) at 25 and work until 65, that's 40 years. Assuming a very average $50K per year (and discounting inflation, interest, raises etc), that comes to $2,000,000.

Blah, blah, blah... most won't even see/earn anywhere near that much; what makes them think they deserve that much in a lawsuit? Gotta love the American way of thinking and judicial system.

I wonder if the folks suing over slavery will leave anything for these folks...The sum total of their lawsuits would seem to be a little high. That would be 3 quadrillion plus 2.4 trillion.

American justice...pure comedy gold...

I love stupid people like you. McD's coffee was being kept WAY too hot as a way of being able to keep the coffee longer. As a result when she spilt the coffee (while opening lid) it scalded (3rd degree) 6% of her body.

So next time you want to talk like a smartass you should actually have something smart to say.

From what I learned in law class, you can ask for whatever you want, but it doesn't necessarily mean they'd give it to you. ;) But this just looks stupid.

While there are a lot of frivolous lawsuits, just because one sues another, it's not always about extracting large amounts of money, just read up on the law and cases, it's very interesting sometimes.

For those interested in reading about the case:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McDonald's_coffee_case

The coffee was kept at 180F, opposed to the plantiff's argument that it should be kept at 140F. 3rd degree burns are serious, and the jury found that McDonald's was 80% responsible, Liebeck 20%.

If one wants to pick an example of a frivolous lawsuit, maybe one should pick one that's more clear cut.

This isn't a frivolous lawsuit, the plaintiff just wants to send a message, he probably already knows he won't get a penny.

There is no point suing for that much money, no judge in his right mind would even think about granting that person 3 quadrillion dollars, or whatever it is. The US economy would cripple, as said in the article. And the people that sued for that much, would be dead and robbed within 5 minutes of them walking out the courtroom.

Robbed of what? The change in his wallet?

It's not like he's going to walk out of the courtroom with 3 quadrillion dollars, should be actually win.
