Hi,

I'm looking for alternatives to OHIP - my friend isn't a citizen or permanent resident yet. This government site (http://www.settlement.org/sys/library_detail.asp?doc_id=1003775) recommends a few, but I'm curious as to what experience you guys have with them. Unfortunately we didn't know about the 5day period.

thanks...

Your friend might be able to get travels insurance from his own place of origin. I"m a canadian, and I travelled to the US for 3 weeks 2 years ago. I bought medical insurance at a rate of something like $2.10 /day. I went through Sears Travel. This is probably not what you're looking for.

This is pretty much what my husband did. He's American trying to get his PR right now. He got travel insurance for 1 year, so he was covered for anywhere but in the States. We went to an insurance broker and got what they recomended. We got it from TIC Travel Insurance Coordinators Ltd.
