Hey all,
I don't usually post too much in this section.. but just wanted to know if there are any people out there that are in or know people in the Technology Transfer side of Science. For example, a "business development officer" or a similar position thats involved in turning science research/products/IP into a venture or marketable product.
From what I gather most of the people in these sorts of positions have AT LEAST an MSc or PhD degree in health sciences or an MBA (sometimes both!). I'm not too sure how these people break through into the industry, but this is something I've always had my heart set on doing.
I currently have about 1 year of product development research and another 2 years of biomedical research experience under my belt after completion of my BSc in Biochemistry/Biotechnology. My hopes is that having the fundamental Science background along with an aptitude for business (informally learned), will help me get started in this career path.
My next course of action is to complete an advanced degree in Science; either an MSc or PhD. But am currently wondering what would be the better set up for a career in tech. transfer: 1)a MSc + MBA degrees (about 4 more years of school) or 2)a PhD (about 5-6 years of school). Keep in mind I'm already 25, and being a 30-year old student doesn't quite sit well with me.
Any insight from anyone with knowledge in this area, I'd love to pick your brain a little bit!
