Question for Torontonians

I was in downtown toronto, outside the greyhound bus terminal and this guy comes up to me and starts saying some stuff in french. seemed like an okay guy.

he said he had some problem in broken english, which i didnt understand so i figured he was some hobo. then the guy asks me for money and i say, "No English" :D

my question, is this a common way to get money ?

Dude us Torontonians do it all the time to tourists, Great way to earn some extra cash

you bought up something that I have just notice, the hobos are really stepping it up a bit. They usually just ask for change before but now, I noticed that they come up and greet you and try to spark a conversation before they ask you for change.

I'm pretty sure that you are able to see the difference between hobo's and working class people in Toronto ( Smell & Attire ) . I believe that the aggressiveness of asking for money is increasing. But its possible he was asking for a quarter to call someone to help him as he was lost :P
