I've never had a cavity before, but I just spotted one. The thing is, my dentist checkup isn't for another month, and I believe that from there they don't take the cavity right away. What should I do. I'm not too sure about the rate of spreading or anything like that...I doubt this is what they talk about when they have the emergency thing on the dentist office phone system.

If anyone has any ideas on what I should do, thanks for the help.

If your tooth is bothering you, then call the office during normal business hours. They will ask you what the problem is. This definitely doesn't sound like an emergency which would be more like a cracked tooth, absess tooth, etc. Cavities don't spread that quickly, a few days isn't going to be a problem.

Cavities don't go away on their own, so call on Monday and make an appt to have it fixed, then carry on with your regular check-up next month.

i have full dental coverage but if i get a cavity and my checkup isnt for another month or something i would rather pay out of pocket to get it fixed.

can't you just call and see if they have any earlier appts available? pushing your cleaning up a month won't be a big deal, and since caries are quick & easy to restore they can probably do it on the spot. i'd mention you suspect a cavity when calling.
if not, then just keep the cavity area as clean as possible until your next appt. the size of it will not grow that much in a month, and they'll probably end up drilling away the same amount of tooth. especially stay away from highly retentive sweets (gummies, fruit-to-go, etc.) and try to chew some sugarfree gum with xylitol in the meantime.

Even if your checkup appointment is in a month, they probably won't fix your cavity then. You'll likely have to make another appointment to get that taken care of.

Like others said, just call and shedule an appointment to get your cavity filled and then go to your check-up as scheduled.

Call and get it fixed, unless you love agony.

They would never do this at a regularly scheduled checkup anyway.

Like you said, you've never had one before, so how do you know? When I went in for checkups, I was certain that I had at least 2 or more cavities. And when its all done, I find out I had none, it was just something else buggn my teeth. happened a couple of times, but if its bothering you, just call and see if you can move your appointment ahead of time. Also try sensodyne toothpaste, it does help with the pain

A cavity isn't the end of the world...they don't hurt until the cavity reaches a nerve, and that's certainly not going to happen in a month. A cavity is not an emergency. Stuff like gum infection, broken or chipped tooth are stuff which qualifies as emergencies.

I've had many cavities in the past due to very poor teeth care. None of them actually hurt. Just call in and you'll get a set appointment to fix the cavity at some point.
