I don't know for sure. But I will say that you're guaranteed $25/Hr, minimum.

Wow, I didn't know it was that high. I knew it was $25/hr minimum, but $50?? wow that's quite nice. It makes sense I guess, you can make $27-31/hr working at Dofasco/Stelco so a place like Toyota should be paying more.

The starting wage for contract worker at Toyota is around $19-$22/hour....the top wage for a contract worker is $31.60. Here is something else for ya....a Toyota plant in Kentucky US...the average Christmas bonus(2006) was $10,130..of course that will depend on the production capacity at each plant for each year.
$20-$40/hour is the average pay of an automotive production associate at the larger automotive plants....for example...Toyota,GM,Ford,Honda....ofcourse $20-$30 being the starting wage and increasing to $30-$40.

how does it get to 31.60 and are contract employees entitled to benefits/ are they a part of the union. is it likely to be renewed; or is there such a thing as going permanent?

Does that include the bonus for the execs/managing people at the plant because they often will get bonuses in the 6/7 figures, bringing that bonus way up.

It always irked me that factories paid decent for a job that requires no degree/diploma. I know the type of work is straining and dirty, but still it's the wage that irritates me at the end of the day.

i dont begrudge the workers for getting that. if there wasnt value in the wage, the company wouldnt pay it.
what annoys me more is companies thinking that people can live on 8/hr but complain that they dont have any staff loyatly. when you pay someone min wage, yuo get what you pay for.

I agree with you being overpaid, but I don't agree with you saying they do "jack".
I've worked in 3 factories before and it's very physical. It still, however, doesn't justify them being able to make a good salary without a degree or diploma.

I think certain type of factory work should be paid a certain(higer than norm) salaries, yes they may not have an university education, but who are you going to get to do the job....a QUALITY job! no one pays 50/hr!.
Usual norm is $20-$40/hr for licensed electrician, millright, PLC programmer, etc - college grads...
normal factory job that you assemble parts is usually $20-25/hr+ in automotive environments(GM/Toyota/etc pay is a bit higher), the salary has to be in that range to get COMPETENT operators, not some joe off the street that WILL do a half ass job and cost the manufacturer more money than just paying the operator that "socalled" inflated salary...The biggest problem for manufacturers is, finding capable/competent operators....I have come across senior managers (once a FACTORY worker, no education) who are really smart, beats some of the so-called educated managers hands down...and before someone wastes their time telling me I am talking crap, I am uoft educated engineer and worked at 5 different companies...

Working in a factory is not fun, in most cases it sucks, alot. The only way to get QUALITY employees is to pay these high wages. Sure it doesn't seem fair, we goto school for all these years when people who didn't are making just as much, maybe more. But if you were to switch places I doubt you would want to work on a mind numbing production line for any less.

My neighbor just got hired at a Toyota plant. Starting wage Was 30 or 31 per hour.
I guess it depends on which specific plant I guess.

i think everyone complaining about being overpaid should work on an assembly line and see how long they can last before they crack...the wage is justifable
and $50/hr is probably the total wage package, including pension and benefits

which plant did he make it into, and what's his position, is he an engineer of some sort, or a production line member?

There are plenty of people that are trying to get a job with an auto manufacturer, the wages are kept artificially high because of the powerful union.

My friend works at a Toyota plant and makes $26/hour to sweep floors / clean up as a student.

The high wages are because of the heavily-unionized nature of auto manufacturing jobs. They place insane wages and benefits pressure on the car companies, which is why a worker in a car assembly plant can make double that of someone working at a manufacturing facility in another industry. I'm not saying the job is easy (if it was, everyone would be doing it), but the wages are indeed artificially high for the amount of skills and education required.

ok so when they get 30$/hr its really only 20$/hr after taxes and after the union fees correct?

Depending on where you work...I myself work in the automotive industry...working for a tier 1 parts supplier. Parts supplier companies don't get paid as much as OEM suppliers like Ford,Toyota,GM, Honda.
Even in parts supplying companies there are major differences in wage payments thats because of the 3 tiers. Also how strong the union is at any given plant.....there is also seniority and which departments/area the job is being performed that take into account of the wages.
There are many automotive parts supplying plants that only pay between $10-$15/hour....others $15-$20 and some between $20-$25.
(I'll let you guess which ones have a strong union and which ones don't).
Ofcourse within the company there are many other factors that determine specific wage amounts but the above numbers are average.
ok so when they get 30$/hr its really only 20$/hr after taxes and after the union fees correct?
Union dues depend on the union and are either paid weekly or biweekly depending on the pay cycle. For example....$25/hr and union dues are $7/weekly...how much is this person really getting paid?... if you take into account the union dues.
