Does anyone know what the law stipulates for those of us who had to move during our year off (maternity leave)? I clearly cannot return to my previous place of employment as it is several hundreds of kms away, therefore does that mean that i am entitled to more EI while i am "hunting" for a new job? I found this link:

http://http://www1.servicecanada.gc.ca/en/ei/digest/6_3_3.shtml#6_3_3 (http://www1.servicecanada.gc.ca/en/ei/digest/6_3_3.shtml#6_3_3)

But it doesn't talk about this specific circumstance.. Some people are telling me that YES i qualify, and others are saying that NO i do not, as all people are only entitled to 12 months of EI, no matter what the circumstances are...

Anyone know? Thanks RFDers!

I have heard they do want to change it to a max of 12 months.Plus have some harder requirements. As of now you may be able to collect. But if all goes the way they want it to this time next you no you will not be able to.

I am am currently on Mat leave as well and moved from Ontario to Quebec just as I started the mat leave due to my husband being transfered for work, but before my baby was born. I called EI about a month ago to ask them this same question and they said that 12 months is the maximum on any type of EI benefits, therefore I do not qualify. I may apply at the end of my mat leave just to see as the worst thing that can happen is that they say I don;t qualify.
