hi,
I applied to work at EB Games last week and got my interview today, I got hired on the job and i start this Saturday coming up (Saturday January 5 2008) I was wondering ... how hard is working there? how is the job? can you give me a brief experience that you had/have working at the game store?
I am worried because this is my first time working at a game/retail store. My previous jobs were working at no frills (Nov.2005 - june of 2007) ... and for a month .. my co-op (heating ventilation and air conditioning)(Mid-Nov 2007 - mid dec. 2007)
Do i also get any discount from games/systems/accessories/etc.?

Sorry about the irrelevance, but how old are you? I want to work at EB Games too, but I'm only 18.

Working at Ebgames is a very stressful job I suggest you go back to No frills.
You have to deal with customers who no clue about gaming. Constant phone calls asking for Trade in values. And long line ups with frustrating customers.
uhh have fun ;D

If I remember correctly, you get 15% off games and accessories and none for consoles.
It is very tough, as one rfd member said you deal with ppl that knows nothing about video games and constant calls about trade in values.
Their POS (Point of Sale) system is hi-tech if we are still in the 80's.
There are a bunch of tedious and redundant paper work to be filled out at closing.
If you have wondered y there is always such a long line up for paying at eb games.. you will understand. I'd say just work at your HVAC job.

Thats so ********. You're going to turn a job down because of 2 people on here?
What kind of job do you expect with little or no experience? Every job sucks A$$. Don't expect to find anything better than EB before you graduate.

80's point of sales aren't as bad as you think they are. They may look ugly but I much prefer well thought out keyboard shortcuts over GUI.
To the OP, you will encounter many frustrations related to working floor level retail. The questions you asked in this post are not bad question to ask employers at the end of the interview. Interviews dont just go one way, particularly when you get into more serious post grad jobs)

Which store were you hired at?
If you're a people person with a high degree of patience, I don't think the job would be that bad. And your co-workers are likely to be the same age as you and have the same interests.

You turned down a job that another kid your age would kill for all because of what a few ppl said in this thread??? Ever heard of the saying "different strokes for different folks?"... well this might have been an enjoyable job for you, but now you will never know that...

i wish i could get a job at eb games.... i would kill to have a job that you can talk about video games all day. i have had many retail jobs.. you get a thick skin and you realize most customers are wrong.

It's too bad you haven't given the job a chance. People have different experience..not all jobs are right for people, but you wouldn't know that until you actually tried. Everyone is right about what you may have to deal with but if you enjoy games, have a lot of patience and you're a peoples person, then you'll enjoy it. But try it out for a week, if you don't like it, quit I guess.

wow, just because of 2 posters in RFD, influenced u to turn down a job???
how would u know the posters are just kids who want the exact EB job you just got??? if i want you to turn down a job so i can get it, i would definitely say the worst things about working there.
what made you trust these 2 posters 100% to make such a decision?

Lol. I agree with the others who said it was stupid turning down the job just because of 2 posts? Maybe those 2 people had personal grudges against the employer there or maybe they're just trolling? (Not accusing anyone, just pointing out examples)
I really hope you didn't turn down the job offer already. Retail is like any other retail though I'd prefer working at EB games than a clothing store becasue I have no interest in clothing.
Think of it this way, you get to be around video games and get a peek at all the newest releases. The only con I can think of the occasional hardcore gamers who never shower.

I got hired at the one that is newly opened at Dixie Outlet Mall. But i haven't called in to turn down the job yet. You guys got me thinking and got my confidence/having me to open my mind and that i should try out the job before i start making judgments.
I am not really good at getting jobs. I got into no frills by asking people who worked there or is working at the moment when i applied if they like the job and they said some what ... turned out when i worked there ... i loved it but i quit because it was a change of supervisor of the section i worked in didn't like me cuz he thought i was too slow ... when the previous supervisor thought i was fine ... i got mad
thanks and i'll see how it goes this saturday coming up

since you got hired, might as well try it out and see first hand, whether you like it or not

You should delete the store where you are working at. Want to keep things confidential.
