Im looking for a card dealer position Full time during the summer. Does anyone know of any casino's that are hiring in the GTA or even close to it? I hear the pay is pretty good and they train you too. Has anyone worked in a casino before and what was it like.

Thx.

Your first problem is that there aren't any real casinos in the actual GTA.

Your next problem is I am pretty sure they don't hire temporary full time workers.

Repeditive job. Lots of smoke. Long hours on your feet. Possible late night shifts.

Not my type of dream job.

It would be hard to get in 'temp', permanent is what they are looking for.

My understanding is they have banned smoking inside the casinos for a few years now, at least that's what happens in Casino du Lac-Leamy in Ottawa here.

The money and the tips are good but I don't know if you could make a career out of it. And don't get sucked into the gambling yourself!

Your best bet for what you're looking for is the CNE casino which runs for a month in August. As a dealer you'll be getting about $10 per hour plus tips at the end of the "season" based on # of hours you worked. You are looking at approximately $1 extra per hour worked as far as tip goes. However, at the CNE casino, you have to pay for training and certification and their courses takes place in June/July.

Other than that, you don't really have any other options available to you.

You have to take a course to become a dealer.

At the poker tables the dealer sits down. There is currently no smoking anywhere inside any Ontario Casino. I recall people still smoking at Casino Rama indoors when OLGC casino's banned it.

Also, I personally do not support smokers or smoking indoors, but these casinos are so well ventilated, you could have a bon fire and nobody would really notice the smoke.

I was also interested in a casino dealer job a while ago, but didn't know where to start. You can try Great Canadian Casinos (http://www.greatcanadiancasinos.com/casino.html).

Good Luck with an OLG casino. Full time is next to impossible to get. We know folks that have been on part time and waiting for fulltime for 5 years. They pay is good as are the benefits but the shifts are terrible. No such thing as 7-3,3-11 and 11-7. All shifts are staggered at really weird times...

I worked for the Great Canadian Casinos over the summer at the PNE. It was a temporary position for me cause I told them I was going back to school.

There was two days of training and a fee for the criminal background check. Since I was only working for 2 weeks with them, they refunded my fee at the end of the work term. But they offered all successful dealers a free 5 week blackjack training course and then those people would be become blackjack dealers. It's a pretty good way to get into dealing if you're interested since the course normally costs a few hundred I believe.

As for the job itself, not for me. It was nice to say that I worked at a casino and got to see how everything is but other than that, gonna finish up my degree and get a job that fits me better.

It's nice that you work in rotation, you get a 15 minute break every hour, and a half an hour lunch/dinner break if you work long enough or during the right times.

I use to be a regular casino gambler but i kick the habit 2 months ago. I frequent rama, brantford and port perry and fallsview.

From what I have heard from all the dealers and supervisors whom some of them have become my close friends. dealers start at $12-$14/hour and the they average about $6-7 in tips per hour. All tips are shared.

Their pay goes up after you learn more games. If you are a permanent staff, you stick to a shift but if you are temp staff, you might be working morning today and night the next day. You work 5 days a week and for brantford you attend a course there.

For port perry I believe you have to go to college or they also offer on-site training. Once that has been done, you will have to go to niagara to get gaming license.

I was offered a job at brantford and port perry and rama but i turn it down as i am still a student. I know the maanger of brantford and several of the higher up Sups at other casino really well.

In terms of hiring part time, your best bet is port perry, they are always hiring and also god knows why they always have dealers that cannot speak english properly and mind you I am chinese too.

Good Luck

Btw if you want to apply, polish up your resume and drop it off. Bear in mind they do strict security checks and credit checks.
