I suppose I'm not alone in thinking that the packaging of toys has become such a chore for parents on Christmas morning. Toys aren't ready to play when you have to fuss with tape, metal twist-ties, rubber bands and blister packs. I would guess that at least 50% of present opening time in our household was devoted to opening packages for the kids.

Boy! Things have changed over the years...

I agree!!

& nevermind the kid toys...the adult toys are worse....it took me 20 minutes to open the hard plastic container hubbys GPS came in....holy he$$!!!

& the walkie talkie package was a friggin nitemare...maybe i need to invest in one of those blade cutter package openers? :(

I usually put batteries into toys i will be giving to my nephews/nieces...it saves them the hasstle & the parents appreciate it~~~

Yep, it's definitely gotten worse over the years. I think the worst is the old packaging for the Bratz dolls, not that the new "easy open package" is that easy to open either. We really try to buy things that are not over packaged but unfortunately there isn't much choice when it comes to toys...

I think the packaging itself costs more than the actual toys!! It's definitely gotten out of and. Every single part is tied up with those super plastic coated wires, taped up and taped up some more. Not only is it quite a chore to open the toys, it's definitely moving away from being environmentally friendly!

The worst toy for me was my son's Primus Transformer from last Christmas. It's an $80 toy that we got at 51% off. Was pleased to have gotten it so cheap but it took me bloody 20 minutes to get the thing out of it's packaging! And then my son wanted me to transform it into the planet. That took ANOTHER 20 minutes. So told him Primus needed to be in Planet form for at least 2 months :)

This year I noticed my daughter's Ponys, Tinkerbell fairies and Littlest Pet Shop were the worst! Her mini-con Transformers were surprisingly easy, they are small.

There is one that home hardware has been advertising on TV for a while.. someone gave it to my Grandma for Christmas... and get this... it comes packaged in an impossible-to-open-style blister package! I don't know if it was some sort of ironic joke from the manufacturer and just plain stupidity.

I also thought sexual when I read that one...I use the term "grown-up toys" for things like GPS systems.
