I was @ my parents place in scarborough and noticed that my tires needs to be topped up with Air. Sad to say that a number of gasstation has been charging $0.25 for air that by the time your done pumping air you'll probably spend about $1.00.
Anywayz, I used to live by North York - Yonge & Finch to be exact. I, sometimes, drive to Yonge & 401 @ Petro Canada where they have the sweetest Air Pump. All you need to do is press the button to the disired pressure and it would stop when the air reached it's limit. And the best part is that it's FREE.
Does anybody know where else in toronto I can find this sweet service??
Thanks.

I beleive this is the same type of pump at my new PC at the corner of Goreway & Queen St (Hwy7). Its a digital machine where you select the pressure & pump. It will automatically stop when done and the best part its free!!!!!!!!!

Many gas station in scarborough offer free air.
A few came to my head right away, Shell at Passmore & Kennedy, Brimley & Finch, and both Cdn Tire & Shell at McCowan & Sheppard.

The pumps all used to be free
Now
Esso - all stations I've been to (KW/Sauga) all charge $$
Sunoco - mostly, but they claim it goes to donations if I recall
Petro - still free, kudos
Cdn Tire - free I believe
GTO - not sure
I refuse to pay for those

i got my own air pump at home .... now i can pump it in my garage when it's -20 outside. Sweet. They go for $10 and up at Canadian Tire, way better than doing it at the gas stations.

i find the gas station pumps are nice a quick compared to the canadian tire DIY pumps, but the CT pumps are much more convinient. I hate goign to a gas station just to get air, and sometimes windows cleaned w/o purchasing gas...
anyhow i find many air pumps in gas stations don't work properly, is this just me or what? it almost seems as if the rubbed near the connector doesnt seal properly aroudn the valve of my tires, and it leaks more air than it puts in! anyone else have this problem?!

I had that problem aswell. Sunoco works the best for me. Considering how much profit oil companies make, you'd think they would upgrade many of their gas stations.

air should be free but crappy tire always has some form of pump that you can throw in your trunk for $10. Having a pump is well worth it if you ask me. Comes with adapters to pump up soccer & basket balls as well.

I have a Bonair pump from costco, works great and can do it in your garage and have true cold tire pressure instead of having to drive out to a gas station where the pressure in the tire will be higher by the time you get there.

the petro canada at steeles/kennedy and hwy7/kennedy is DIGITAL AND FREE
not to mention petro canada has $0.02 off per litre if you have the citi credit card (which amounts to over 2% savings when the price of gas is below $1/litre... better gains than 1% cash back credit cards)

I pay .50 cents at PETRO CANADA But The Donation Goes to Charity.
All I know is it says on the Machine that All money goes to charity so, I am not sure whether it goes to the PETRO CANADA'S POCKET OR TO CHARITY:cheesygri

Yeah it sucks that a lot of these pumps have gone to a paid mode of operation.
Back in the day most of these things used to be connected to shops where large air tanks that served the garage would also serve your air pump. However these days with more individual gas stations with no shops conincident they just use the now-common air compressor boxes... I think one of the reasons for the cost has to be the fact that a lot of them get busted up/vandalised and then the next guy goes and can't use it because it's broken. Gas station has to pay for that repair and if it happens often enough, I think they're justified in charging for it.
I would never pay for it myself, heh, but just saying there's some justification for it.
In Rexdale (Etobicoke North) pretty much every gas station I've been to that has a compressor, it's free. There's at least one Shell station where air is free but the attachment on the end of the air hose has a quick connect coupling and you have to go in and leave your license or whatever to get the actual end of the hose to put air in tyres. A little inconvenient but this seems to be a good compromise between free air that's a free-for-all, and charging for air due to vandalism/damage.
In Brampton most of the pumps I've seen are free but some are not.
Just depends on the station, some are free some are not. Just drive to the next station and check it out. But don't be surprised if you're at a free one where the end of the air hose is busted, broken, leaking or otherwise inoperational...

Any places in Kitchener/Waterloo have the new digital ones? It's really inconvenient to check if the pressure has reached the level I want while pumping.

i notice a lot of the pumps don't work properly either. ends up deflating my tire even more. then once, one of the attendents told me 2 get a paper towl or 2, fold it and put it over the end of pump and wrap it around. then stick it in2 ur valve stem so it pokes thro, and that makes a proper seal so it'll pump properly.
but yea... i don't like the pay pumps either... so i nvr used em
