remove your gas cap and install it back in -common reason (loose gas cap).
if engine light is still on, than u might have any possible problems, faulty sensors, to something more serious, etc. I think at gm goodrench, the cost to diagnose engine light is $135 or something, than additional costs to fix problem...

found this, may be of help:
Hundreds of things could cause the check engine light to come on as with any car. To determine what the problem is you must use an OBD II code scanner. Autozone or some other diy parts stores will do this for you for free.
Answer
Always check the Gas cap to make sure it on tight. A loose gas cap can cause this to happen.
Answer
It's either a faulty catayltic (sp) converter (We have a 2001 Impala and have had to have a new one installed twice), a faulty oxygen sensor or the gas cap (either not screwed on just right or, being 7 years old, the gas cap is not sealing correctly and you need a new cap. Good luck.
Answer
On my 2000 Impala, the Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve has required replacement about every two years. This causes the check engine light to come on. A sure way to determine if the EGR is at fault is to drive from a cold start, go for 10-15 minutes at 50MPH, and then coast to a stop. If the check engine light comes on during decelleration, the EGR is faulty - this is a GM test protocol for this vehicle. The EGR's function is to recirculate exhaust gases back into the engine for reburning, and if it is not working properly it can lead to poor fuel economy or failing emissions tests.

Any number of things can trigger this light even a "hiccup" in one of the monitored systems.Do the simple things first. Check your oil level. Just one litre down can trigger the light. Check all the fluid levels As well as the gas cap. The light will go out light away if this was the problem and fluids are at the proper level.
One thing you can also do is disconnect the battery for about ten or twenty minutes. This should clear the memory and the light should go out. If it still is on or comes on again then you have a situation that triggered this light and should be looked at.
None of these cost any money and a little time only.
