The real trick is knowing what the codes are telling you.
What triggers the code, what is a multiple code reporting indicating to you. Which codes or combination of codes trigger the lights on the dash. Do you need to do anything at all if the reader shows codes but the dash lights are not on. Is a reported code even a problem or a voltage spike on a sensor?
Sometimes a lot of data is useless unless you are aware of what all the data and it's combinations and permutations mean.

Yep. What you should do, if invest in a couple of tim-hortons coffee's and go down to your local tech school. Get chummy with a tech (auto) teacher, and they'll probably scan you free. It only takes a sec. Then, if they really like you, you can have it fixed there for cheap too. Usually takes a long time though, since it's students working on it.

Yes, I am using Scangauge II and it more than a code reader. I have it mounted on my dash and use it everyday. http://www.scangauge.com

I bought a few off ebay for around $35 last year (they make great gifts). They came with a booklet with a fairly substantial list of codes - and if the code's not in the book, there's always google.
