Folks,

Good News - Transport Canada recently modified it's import law for US Vehicles, especially that "Engine Immoblizer" thingy:

http://www.tc.gc.ca/mediaroom/releases/nat/2007/07-h245e.htm

And Lo and Behold - Check today's RIV Import List - most of the 2008 models from US are KOSHER now!

REVISED 2007/12/21
SUBJECT TO REVISION WITHOUT NOTIFICATION
E & O. E.

4. Some vehicles in Section 3 - Passenger Cars, in Section 5 – Multipurpose Passenger Vehicles and in Section 12 – Trucks are
marked with either:
(1) two asterisks (**), or (2) an arrow (>), or (3) ([EIS]) or (4) (**>) or (5) (**>[EIS]).
(1) The two asterisks (**) indicate that the vehicle in question will require modifications to the existing bumper(s) before it can be
registered and licensed. Some vehicles can be readily modified by installing the appropriate Canadian parts. However, some vehicles
cannot be readily modified and may require comprehensive and expensive modifications.
(2) The arrow (>) indicates that the vehicle will require modification to accommodate the child tether anchorage. Again the modifications
may prove to be extensive and expensive.
(3) The letters [EIS] indicate that the vehicle is either equipped with an electronic immobilizer installed by the manufacturer but not
certified to meet Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 114 or that no electronic immobilizer is installed. Please see section 9 of
these explanations for further information on immobilizers.
(4) Both symbols (**>) indicate that the vehicle will require modifications to the bumpers and child tether anchorage. Where the
asterisks (**) and/or the arrow (>) are at the end of a group which lists models joined by a comma (,) or an and (&) sign, all models in
that group are affected by the asterisks (**) and/or arrow (>).
(5) (**>[EIS]) indicates that the vehicle requires modification to the bumpers, child tether anchorage and that some action is required on
the immobilizer (see section 9 for details).

The new 2008 Honda Acccord is admissible now. But they don't have warranty in Canada for US imported ones. How to get warranty for Honda makes in BC?

Can you find a US Honda dealer to sell you one?

Noke, I called 4 Honda dealers in Washington States near the boarder. They are all refused to sell NEW cars to Canada customers. They can sell only used cars. They don't have 2008 Accord in pre-owned.

If you have a relative living in US, ask them to purchase the new car and them resale it to you. In this case, you will need to pay the state tax. But if you can buy the car at invoice or close to invoice, you can still save money if you buy at MSRP as Canadian, given that they are willing to sell it (new car). You are hard to find any Honda or Toyota dealer is willing to sell you new ones.

What a difference a year makes. Last year, it would have been no problem purchasing from any US based Honda dealership. I know a few people that have purchased their new Civic's from Lynwood Honda and they saved thousands. Too bad they won't sell new to Canadains anymore.

Have you guys tried Oregon - especially Portland and adjoining areas.
Probably for 2008 models we will have to wait a couple of months more.
