What do the rental companies charge? I have a CIBC Dividend Card and an Amex Card (just a regular one)...do these have sufficient enough insurance for rentals? I guess I can phone CIBC/Amex but wondered if anyone knows how it all works.

Also (unrelated)...any good deals out there for Disneyworld? we will be there for Jan 4th and 5th and so only need 2 passes for the 2 days...I have heard that I should get these before the end of the year as they jump up prices in the new year...

I would check your policy info. or call the CC companies in question rather than relying on what people here tell you. Not all CCs offer insurance for car rental so you're better off verifying for sure that yours have this.

While some canadian CC companies will cover you for collision, they will NOT cover you for liability. That you have to pay extra through the car rental agency or, maybe with your home auto insurance provider.

I'm not sure what your cards will give you but In Manitoba our Public Auto insurance provider is called MPIC and they give great coverage for eample 7 days for $43 with the best coverages where a car rental co would charge $20 plus a day !

It's true the CC company only covers collision which a lot of people don't realize.

The car usually has some liability insurance as nearly all states require a minimum by law. (the car rental agency usually by default only has the minimum required which can be very low e.g. $30k). I certainly would not feel safe driving with the minimum. One accident and you can be sued for an amount far greater than the minimum liability.

I get my home auto insurance to cover (much cheaper than the rental company's rates). I pay ~$20 a year to cover any car rental in Canada or united states which covers collison on the rental car to $30,000 and liability is the same as my car insurance ($1 million)
