Not sure why 30 buck off a PS3 is impressive ... the 40 GB you can get it for 333 and the 80 for 425 at TRU online using an amex

Already mentioned in the Dell Boxing Day thread - great price.
Actually the boxing day thread has a 2nd sixaxis controller instead of Ratchet & Clank. Also the boxing day deals for the PS3 and 360 in that thread haven't shown up on their site (PS3 is still showing up as $400 and 360 is AWOL). I like this PS3 deal better. I'd rather have the game. I think I'll try PM at FS or BB.
Edit: Now that I think about it I wonder if this is a price error and they reduced the price on the wrong bundle. Like I said the bundle in the flyer is still $400 on their website and this one got reduced to $370.

If not for the added disk capacity, for backward compatibility with PS2 games.

So what?
I'm sure everyone who is thinking of getting a PS3 already knows about the 40 gig bc issue. No need to discourage, I'm sure people don't waste 400 bucks without knowing what they are buying.
Great deal in my opinion. I've been following the ps3 for a good 2 months. Know everything their is to know, and will def jump in if it really is 369.

You do realize that PS2 has the LARGEST game library to date? It kinda speaks to its influence when people are still releasing games for it to this day.
PS2 compatibility is a HUGE plus for alot of people (obviously not you).

Also keep in mind the 80gb ps3 upscales ps2 games, so with games that are supported they should look a little better than they did on a PS2.

Yeah, they can read most USB memory devices including usb keys, hard drives and memory card readers. The ports also support USB hubs, so technically you're not really limited to 2 usb ports with the 40GB. Also, you use the ports to recharge the wireless controllers.

If one has existing PS2 games, then it is guaranteed that one already owns a PS2. Otherwise there is a good chance that almost all people with a PS3 already own a PS2, due to past Sony loyalty, and the fact that the PS2 was such a high seller.

i though that too until i got my ps3 and assassin creed. That game needs 1go of space to install on your PS3 and game demo are usually 700mb. Luckyly not every game required to install in your PS3 HD.

Do you own a PS2? I have a PS2 and 100+ titles of PS2 / PS1 games & wd prefer PS3 with 80 gig which is compatible with PS1, PS2 & PS3 games & upscales PS1/2 games. It will let me get rid of my PS2 and all its cables, accessories, memory cards.... Its definitely worth the extra 100 bucks for all PS2 owners.

You must have a lot of time in your hand. Playing PS2 games on the PS3.
I understand the concept of backward compatibility. But the cost does not justify it.

I see the 2 ports instead of 4 as a problem because for time crisis, you need 3 if you wanta play double -> sensor, two guns. I'm sure there are usb hubs you can attach, but UGLY..

Hey Guys,
I'm having trouble price matching Dell with Future Shop since Dell has the PS3 bundle on sale right now. I want to use FS because I have gift cards with them, so I want to make use of them and make this payment as minimal as possible :D
However, I keep getting the runaround, and the main excuse a couple of the stores have used is, "Dell has different policies than us (restocking fee, items aren't available right away)." Does anyone have a remedy for this particular excuse, about the store having different policies?
Any help would be much appreciated!!
Thank you and Happy Holidays!

I had this problem too when I was buying my xbox360 elite in the summer... I couldnt get FS or BB to PM... They used the very fine print in their PM policy which basically gets them out of any situation they want and say they can refuse the PM. So what I did was order from Dell and then purchased from BB/FS(cant remember), played the BB/FS one right away and when the Dell one came around I just packed up the BB/FS one and returned it. Serves them right...

D3van: lol, well, I don't need to play it RIGHT away, but I'm glad you did that hahaha. The fine print is what the stores have been reciting to me, and I told them exactly what you just said, that basically it means they can just not honour the price match whenever they feel like it, because any store can have any slightly different policy. It's such BS.
Pot_Pie: When did you PM them? I'm also curious as to whether or not you had any hassles, cuz that's all I'm getting. Dell seems to have a reputation with FS. Was it with this current Dell sale price of 369.99 for the bundle? Does that mean you were able to get a game instead of a controller? If so then I'm definitely gonna persist, if not, then I may just line up Wednesday morning :S

I PMed the new Dell Ratchet & Clank bundle deal at $369. Did it this morning (Friday Dec. 21) at around 10:30am. No hassles at all.
I brought R&C and the PS3 up to the cash and told the guy about the bundle. He went off for a few minutes to check it out, and came back with the 8ft HDMI cable. He punched it all in at $370, then got a manager to come by to give an override code or something. The manager just kind of glanced at the screen, said "All that together in the bundle?" The sales guy said "Yeah I checked it on the Internet," and that was it. I paid for it and ran away before they could change their minds.

HOT DAMN that was nice. I'd've been out the door in a split second too man...that's hilarious! The thing is, I don't even see the bundle including the game on the website's flyer, I only see the one including the extra controller. Would you mind pointing me to it?? So it was just the cashier that you price matched with? Or was a sales rep for games, or was it a manager?
Thanks in advance for your help...

Godmode, good luck, please post your results, and what reasons they cite if you get rejected.
I just got rejected in person at FS Richmond Hill. The reason they cited this time was that at the bottom of the page of details for the bundle, there is a statement that says, "Available in limited quantities." The manager of the gaming department said that because of this they won't price match, and her manager above this is the one that told her that.
Anyone have a solution/comeback for that? In fact, anyone have a solution to them citing "different policies such as restocking fees?" Damn, they've got a long list of excuses to cite for not pm'ing Dell.
So in summary,
Rejected at:
FS Vaughan - called - "different policies such as restocking fees"
FS North York - called - "different policies such as restocking fees"
FS Richmond Hill - in person - "their items are only available in limited quantities"
Accepted at:
FS Toronto, Yonge & Dundas - Pot_Pie in person - no questions asked
I'm think it boils down to a matter of luck, or having a real set of good counter-arguments on hand and being a good sales person yourself :D

Hey, in previous posts I stated that I had FS gift cards that I wanted to put to use, so that's why I was asking if anyone had successfully pm'd FS. That, and like Godmode was saying, I'd like to have one in my hands for the Christmas holiday days I get off work :D
But I won't break my back trying to pm the deal...however, I guess I will be toughing it out at 7am at my nearest FS, Richmond Hill. I don't mind if I'll get another $50 off or so on a basic bundle.
That said, I did see a 60gb at FS Richmond Hill today when I was there this afternoon around 3:30pm, in case anyone has a TON of PS2 games they want to be able to still play....Two boxes of Rockband for Xbox were on the floor too, but by the time I came back around to the section, they were already being paid for at the checkout!

No luck.
I went to the Heartland Town Centre in Mississauga. First I went to Best Buy and was flat-out told that they wouldnt do it. The reason was that they dont consider Dell a real store, since theres no physical location to purchase it.
Then I went to Futureshop. I spoke to some Red Shirt there who sounded like she had no idea why they dont take it back. I wandered over to the entertainment section where the Black Shirts are and asked them. She came back with a "Price Guarantee" flyer to show me the fine print about some "next day delivery" crap. I told her Dell would give me $20 next day delivery(BS). I BSed some more about wanting it before Christmas Eve and giving them my business.
Waited there 20 minutes while they went back and forth with their "Entertainment Manager". In the end he refused citing that it was a different bundle SKU exclusive to Dell. I asked if I could even get the normal Motorstorm bundle for that price, but he said no.
Then in a moment of weak desperation I went to the Sony Store. It was practically empty(no surprise theyre incredible rigid when it comes to pricing). The guy there was pretty nice about explaining to me about margins and losses. He thought that Dell's price is ridiculously good. Maybe if i bought a TV they would consider it.
Then in a moment of just plain temporary insanity i went to EB Games. One word "no" and I was out the door and on my way home.
So thanks Futureshop, Best Buy, Sony Store, and EB Games, you just gave Dell another customer.

maybe people should just grab the items and bring up the price match at checkout? that seems to work.
Actually I asked the guy in electronics first. He said sure, showed me where to grab the PS3 while he grabbed the rest of the combo. Told me to head up to C-service. Went up and no problems. In an out.

Argh. Everyone getting theirs PM'ed without a hitch is gonna make me cry.
I battled (literally) with 3-4 employees and a manager who told me he would do it, then went back on his word later on about it.
Enviably, leading to me having a regional manager contacting me tomorrow about it. Hopefully he does it. :P

I went in expecting a battle. I printed off the ad off the net. I also printed off the Sale Week Date (To prove it wasent just a boxing day sale). I also Printed off the "Dell Store Locations and phone #'s" in case of price check. As well as had the proper Dell Eflyer website written down in case they went to there regular site instead of the eflyer.
So basically I had 3 different printouts. I keep the store info and phone # printoffs (I had 5 dell store/kiosk locations and phone #'s) in my pocket if they dont budge on the initial flyer or if they have no stock. It kind of throws them off guard when you keep comming up with a solution to there excuses.
All in all, I was totally prepared for everything I thought they would throw @ me. Instead I was dumbfounded when they said not a problem.

Where is the 5 dell store/kiosk locations, can you please also provide the phone#s? Thanks! One time when I went to PM they stated Dell was online didn't have a store so BD would not PM, other excuse was Dell had no overhead cost so no price match (Walmart). FS would not PM either. So I ended up buying online with Dell. To me to hell with these other stores if they advertise they will PM and then they reneg at every opportunity. So far anything I ordered on line from Dell was free shipping - I now feel comfortable to making large purchases on line with reputable companies. I have been converted.

I got refused at walmart, went to futureshop, spent 15 minutes talking to the sales rep and manager, and he eventually accepted to do the pm.
I told them if I walk away empty handed tonight, it means that FS lost my business and therefore a customer. Then dell will be getting my hard earned money instead of FS.
The manager was speechless and said ok... =)

Long time looker, first time poster.
When I first saw this post on Friday, I went down to Futureshop at Yonge and Dundas square to try and PM(first time PMing) and got rejected. I was in Oakville yesterday tried PM at the Futureshop there and got rejected. Both times were about some BS about same day shipping, and "we don't PM with online stores", "we don't do bundles."
So basically as stated before this is my first time trying to PM. So I'm just looking for some advice from people who had some luck PM this deal. Maybe a receipt scan from FS/BB in the downtown core, so I can have a leg to stand on.

:( I ordered the R&C bundle w/hdmi and yadda yadda. *sigh* I'm a weak weak man, I've already got a xbox 360 and Wii, I think I'll treat this more like a bluray player that happens to play some games.
It was a good price, I didn't really need a 2nd controller anyway(living in a town with inbred yolkles).
edit:
Heres my riddle, I've got the extra HDMI port on my tv, but only one optical jack on my Z5500s, BUT I've got a Coax port on my tv, if I use the HDMI to my tv from my PS3, and then my COAX from my tv to z5500, will that give me the Dolby Digital signal?
If not I'll have to try out one of those optical switches from monoprice, I've read alot of mixed reviews though about those.

I have an older receiver with one optical and 1 coax. I use the optical from my Ps3 to my reciever and the coax from my HDcable box to the receiver. Both the Ps3 and cable box are hooked up to the tv via hdmi for video. Both mine come up Dolby Digital and I get surround.
There will be experts that will get into all the techinical how its not true surround and all that. But all in all it works.

You can contact FS's HQ (email or phone number should be on its website) about your experience.
Personally, I don't take those BS about not PM other online stores, etc., etc. I would request their written PM policy on paper, or the MOD's words signed on a paper.

When you get turned away because of the same day shipping argument that is the only one that really has any validity and is part of their PM policy. When you get rejected trying to match an online store that is complete B.S.. Bundles are a little trickier but only because it isn't apples to apples but in the end you should get your way there also.
If you are having this much trouble the next time you try and hit the brick wall just ask for the manager (not the department supervisor) and politely ask him why you are being refused a pricematch on a nationwide store policy. And just be prepared to defend your position if you get the same grief the brainless floor reps regurgitate. Most often though when they go to get the manager for you they come back with the "unexpected good news" that your request can actually be honoured. oh no kidding.
If you still encounter further problems it's time to call HQ and ***** and have them strong arm the store for you. But in my experience it hasn't been necessary if you know how to muddle through wall of junk the store reps like to throw at you.
best of luck

It's unfortuneate if it's true and with roughly an 8% gross margin after manufacturer kickbacks it's probably the real deal
but...

From BB Website:
"should you find a lower advertised price, including those on the internet from an
authorized Canadian Dealer (:confused:exactly how does the average joe find this out:confused:),
we will match that price and beat it by giving you an additional 10% of the difference."
"Our Lowest Price Guarantee does not apply to advertising errors or misprints,
special educational prices, restricted offers, mail order offers, rebates, coupons,
premiums, free or bonus offers, OEM products, limited or minimum quantity or
limited time offers, close-outs, liquidations, clearances, and special financing
offers."
http://www.bestbuy.ca/helpsection/EN/online_policies.asp?onlinepoliciesID=1&logon=&langid=EN
Hmm... then they hit you with this crap:
"The terms and conditions of the Lowest Price Guarantee are subject to change

Kinda defeats the purpose a bit.

Ok after going back to the same BB for the 2nd time, I finally fought my way through and got the deal. The only thing is... BB promises to price match and beat by 10% when he charged me he charged me 366.99 which is a total savings of 1% only. Do you guys think I should go back tomorrow and get my 9% back ?? Its another 40 dollar savings ...
Also, can BB not honour a sale after I have left with the unit and only come back with a receipt to get the price adjustment ?? If anyone can answer my question that would be great cause I gotta go back tomorrow after work.

For those wanting FS to PM this bundle, the forums on the FS site (http://www.futureshopforums.ca/futureshop/search?board_id=offtopicandfeedback&submitted=true&q=ps3+bundle) have a few threads on theor PM policy as well, many pertaining to this particular deal.
Good luck to all, I will be going in (fully armed with research) for mine in a couple days.

10% is calculated only on the difference, so you were charged the right amount...

Yeah, its only 10% from the price difference (i forgot to ask for this .. but you only save about ... $3, so not that big of a deal).

that's a little too intense, hdmi cable is less than $10 from monoprice and a lot of the free blu-ray movies suck. that said it is a solid deal.
I thought $70 for the cables were too much, but that's what rang up for me when i checked out .. Its some Rocketfish RF-G1111 model ... 4 ft long ? .. i unno but it was still a good deal .. (i just dont need this HDMI chord .. )

Thank you for the quick reply, although thats a slightly different setup than mine, mine is HDMI to the tv(it can carry A/V)then COAX from TV(tv gets audio from the HDMI) to the Receiver, so therein lies my query if I'll get surround from the PS3 going this route.

LoL, i think i was a little too excited, and had a little typo :P. Just tried out the game and WOW, I Heart PS3 !!! (I don't even have a HDTV but i do have
a HDTV Monitor 21" :P HP f2105 and a Creative Sound system)
For those who want to buy the PS3 and Connect it to your monitor and Computer sound system, if you have any questions i can help :P.
Don't forget to apply for the 5 free Bluerays Disks !! :)
For 369.99 you get!
- 40 GB PS3
- HDMI Cable (if you're lucky you can get a top notch cable)
- Ratchet and Clank Future (Soooo much fun)
- 6 x BLUERAY MOVIES (Spider man 3, Pirates of the Caribbean, Swordfish, the Devils Rejects, S.W.A.T, Hart's War)
So technically you only pay
(HDMI Cable = $70, Game = $60, 6 Blueray = $25 x 6 = $150)
370 - 70 - 60 - 150
= $90!!!! + tax
so haha better get PM right away guys Blueray deal is about to go away January 31, 2007
Yeah definetly great deal... my wallet thinks otherwise but I like it... specially since my 360 bricked last week.

Does anyone know if we would run into problems if we wanted to return only the HDMI cable? Does the fact that it was purchased as a part of a price match affect it?
I'm thinking just pay the $10 for the cable from Monoprice, and then get some cash back for the overpriced Rocketfish ones. Opinions?

I ordered on Friday the 21st at 10pm. It shipped from Dell on Sunday, but Purolator has no tracking info yet(just the number). I called Purolator and the guy said that it would only show up tracked today(Monday). But who knows if this is coming from the States? The guy said that customs could hold it for some days? I think getting them to successfully price match the deal is a matter of talking to an employee that doesn't care. It's generally up to the employee to make their own judgements. From what I've noticed, the young guys are the ones that don't really give a rats. I remember invoking the SCOP for the Bladerunner3 helicopter with a new girl. The new girl asked a young guy working at the CS counter and he said, "Sure, whatever" before she could even finish the sentence. I got it for 10 bucks.
Personally, I prefer the 80gb version because if I'm gonna pay an assload of money for something I would prefer all the extra features. Plus, there are a lot of grade A ps2 games that I missed out on. Now I'm finding them used for very cheap (5-15 bucks).

Funny, my experience was the complete opposite, but generally I agree with you.
I tried PM'ing it at BB, but got denied because the games are "grey market" and you can't return to Dell without paying a fee.
So I went to FS instead, and this one guy in the gaming section was ready and willing to help me out.
So ended up getting the Ratchet and Clank bundle, also with the HDMI cable. I needed it right away because my brother was looking for a PS3 deal before he went back home to the States.

If you have a card/account with AirMiles, just register at their website:

I'm in the same boat as you m8. I didn't think I'd buy a next gen console either. But Sony came out with 40 GB model, ditching the backwards compatability (which a lot of people wanted), and considering you're getting a blu-ray player, integrated wi-fi and a gaming system, I think for 399 that's a deal in itself. The HDMI and free game that came with the Dell bundle was just icing on the cake.
I bought the bundle when it was $400 by price matching with Futureshop with a bit of trouble. Then the price dropped by ~30-40 bucks on the dell website, and guess what, took advantage of the price protection policy, but this was an enormous hassle, by the end it was more putting the FS people in their place than getting the money back. The employees are very lazy and don't feel like doing the price protection, so they gave me total BS when I came to the store. Everything worked out fine in the end.
For anyone wishing to PM this deal with FS and Best Buy. My recommendation is just print out the online page, call Dell to make sure shipping is free (FS/BB may call and ask) and remember how to easily navigate to the bundle on the dell.ca website. They do price match Dell, and if you get a sales rep that says they don't, ask them to put it in writing and put their name on the paper as well, see what happens next. Those places should really start honoring their policies instead of BSing their customers.
Happy Holidays Everyone!
Thanks for finding me this great great deal! Certainly saved me a lot of money that I can now use towards game and what not.
cheers

I wasted so much time trying to PM Dell at FS or BB, that I just go with Dell now and don't even bother with PMing. I would PM if FS/BB didn't hire muppets for their customer service departments. In any case, they should refuse all Dell.ca PM's on the basis of lack of 1-day shipping, but none of them give the right excuse, often coming up with cocamimi reasons instead, but that's why they are muppets.
Anyway, I've spent more at Dell than FS and BB combined this year, although two of the purchases were PC's. Still, Dell is getting more of my biz for a good reason.
All of you who ordered the PS3, it's a decent deal and it's hard to think that this beast will be much cheaper any time soon...enjoy your new toy!

been following this thread for a while now debating between a new PC and a PS3...
I'm getting close to buying the PS3 (might try and PM at FS/BB with Dell...probably for the ratchet and clank bundle...might try and see if they'll swap for another game)
Some questions though...
How is the web browser on this thing? (will a wireless keyboard/mouse combo work with it too?)
Is an external fan necessary for the 40GB model?

Wow, that's a lot of third party fans. I don't believe it's necessary, and I think that the PS3 is still quieter than the 360, I may be wrong though.

I have an older HDTV (panasonic rear projection) that doesn't have HDMI (only component). What's the best i can get thru the PS3? will it still output 1080i over component?
Also, can i stream media from my computer to my TV with the PS3? Can i use my mac?
Any info would be helpful. Thanks

considering the cpu in the ps3 40 gb is better made (not more powerful but cheaper to made, consume less energy and produce less heat)
I dont think third fan party are necessary, I dont think third fan party are necessary in the first place for the ps3 (80gb model),
I know the 3 ring of death of the 360 is due to hardware malfunction, but always wondered if it's due to overheating and wich piece of hardware broke....
anyway not many case of overheating ps3 have been heard of if any,
Also, can i stream media from my computer to my TV with the PS3? Can i use my mac?
I dont know for mac, but for windows theres something with windows media player that will allow you too, there's something too in linux don't remember the software,
it's a shame sony did not decide to include samba/windows share or even nfs support in their ps3 would have made easier alot of things,
of course you can always install ubuntu (linux) and read media trought a windows share/Samba (what i'm going to do)
developpement for accessing the rsx have gone a long way now and are able to play movie on linux now, but sound still at 2.1 :(
anyway linux for the ps3 will someday be a real alternative to the ultimate media pc right now it's just really good bang for the bucks :P

Hey everybody!
been following this thread for a while now debating between a new PC and a PS3...
Such as...

do not buy these
waste of money
the 360 over heats like crazy but even with the external fans, it's been said that the fans actually create more issues to the 360 as they make the internal fans work harder.
ps3 is a lot better than the 360 in terms of quality and design so save your money.

The PS3 was just too hot to resist for me. $369 plus R&C, plus a free Spiderman 3 (decent film) plus the 5-blue ray offer.
Now I am a dual format supporter: HD and BluRay! [also, I bought my HD player when they were $250, didn't get in on the $99 goodness this Xmas]

Successfully PM'd against Dell at Futureshop in Saskatoon.
Got the 40gb PS3, extra wireless controller, dynex hdmi cord, Time Crisis 4 with Gun, Spiderman 3 bluray. Came up to 379 plus tax. They didn't have the rachet, which was worth 59, so they said I could have any game I for that price. The TC4 was 10 beans more so they bumped up the price accordingly, no biggy. Overall I thought I did well! I'm not sure if I was supposed to receive the extra controller and the game... or just one of them. Either way, great stuff!

Hello, just got back From BB at Dundas/Bay in Toronto and they price matched my print out of the dell deal (they went online checked it out then did it).
I ended up getting an 8 foot cable as they didn't have a 6 foot.
They offered the deal at $329 IF I took the $69 extended warranty. so for $29 I got a two year warranty (which if anything means I will get the controller replaced in two years as I complain about it not being responsive enough...i figure that will get my money back at least).
so, if you are having no luck at other places, head to BB at Dundas / Bay (I think my guy's name was 'bal'

Just got shot down trying to PM the (competitor).ca 40GB PS3 bundle at FS Merivale in Ottawa.
Sadly, it was almost entertaining ;) to hear what the Entertainment Manager and Store manager came up with to get out of this.
Today, December 27, is technically the second day of Boxing Day in Canada. (I can't make this stuff up!)
Due to #1, they don't do ANY price matching today...I could come back tomorrow, though.:!:
FS stopped price matching (competitor) on December 15, since (competitor) could no longer guarantee delivery before Christmas. Reminder: today is December 27.
The cheapest HDMI cable FS sells is $80. This, in contrast to the $30 Dynex HDMI I had in my hand.
In response to #4, they would not allow themselves to sell me the Dynex as it would wreck my PS3...anything less than the $80 cable would allow oxygen into my PS3 and kill it. I'm sure the people at Dynex would be happy to hear this. (Again, I can't make this stuff up.)
The immediate availability of the item in the store was contrary to the need to have it shipped from (competitor).
Just because other FS locations PM this stuff doesn't mean they should....they don't have to PM websites, it's at their discretion.:smileyindifferent:
Does #7 not mean that the price match policy is not, therefore, one on behalf of FS, but of the Management of each store?
All of this resulted in the Manager's recommendation that I go home and try to order it and get the price match via the FS website, since the shipping options would be similar as (competitor).ca. So, off to the website I go...I will update on my level of success.
I'm beginning to feel unfortunate that I have all of the FS Gift Cards to spend and can't take them elsewhere.

Dec 27th, 2007, 02:57 PM
1) Play games from any country
Harbouring a desire to play Super Gaiden Ninja XI? Now you can. In fact, you can handily play any PS3 game from any country. On holiday in the States and spot the latest release at a bargain dollar-to-pound price? Help yourself. So far, at least, PS3 games aren’t being region coded. That said PS2 and PS1 games are so you can’t play a US title on a Euro console.
And let’s not forget that Blu-ray movies are region-coded so the barriers aren’t completely down yet.
2) The secret video reset
One of the most annoying aspects of the PS3 are its video settings. Take it up to the bedroom portable or round to a friend’s house and there’s a good chance that you won’t be able to see anything onscreen because your ‘new’ TV is running at a different resolution or using a different cable connection. And - because you can’t see anything - you can’t change it. Until now. Shut down your PS3 then restart by pressing and holding the power button. This will reset your PS3 to its most basic 480p graphics mode so you’ll be able to see enough to choose RGB SCART, component, HDMI or whatever from here.
3) See how much charge is on your pad
There’s no indication of how much charge is left on the pad itself. Instead it appears on screen during games. Press and hold the PS button on any joypad. An indicator will appear, showing your pad’s charge as a small battery. A full battery pic means a fully-charged pad. Neat.
4) Download game saves
Chances are someone out there has already beaten that boss for you and saved their game afterwards. Why not take advantage of it? Google ‘PS3 game saves’. There are hundreds of finished and half finished game saves scattered all over the internet. Download the save you want - it’ll come in a ‘PS3′ folder that you can lift onto a USB stick and put into your PS3. Go to the Game menu, choose your stick and the game save you downloaded should be right there. Press Triangle to copy it to your hard drive.
5) Make free video phone calls
You will need a USB headset (like the one you use for PS2 Socom) and an EyeToy camera. Plug in both via USB then go to your Friends menu. Choose a friend you’ve signed up earlier and press Triangle. Choose Start New Chat and type a message. Something like ‘Videochat?’ should do the trick. Now, providing they’re in front of their powered-up PS3 (perhaps you could text them to tell them to be in position?) then they’ll see your message and be given the option to accept your videochat.
Now, provided they too have a camera and headset, two windows will open, one showing you (so you can make sure you’re looking your best), the other displaying your mate. Best of all you can hit Triangle again and invite more people to join your chat - up to a maximum of six. And the cost? Not a bean above your usual broadband connection charges.
6) Browse multiple Internet windows
Open the browser (go to Network) and surf to a page you want. Now open up the menu with a press of Triangle and choose ‘Open In New Window’. Enter another URL and then do the same again. Keep going until you’ve got six windows open. Now press L3 (done by clicking down the left stick). You’re now in multi-page mode. Move the left stick to flick through the web pages as though they were bits of paper, then click L3 again to zoom in.
7) Upgrade your hard drive
We took the drive out of our PS3 and found it to be a Seagate Momentus 5400rpm 60Gb 2.5inch SATA drive. We swapped ours out effortlessly for a Seagate Momentus 120Gb 2.5inch SATA drive and it worked perfectly. Remove the cover flap on the bottom of your PS3 with a fingernail. Undo the blue screw and slide the drive over to the right and out of your PS3. Undo the four screws on the ‘caddy’ and remove the old drive.
Put your new drive in the caddy (it should be exactly the same size, of course) and re-do the four screws. Slot it back in and slide to the left to make the connections. Re-do the blue screw, pop the cover back on and restart your PS3. Say ‘yes’ to the message on screen and voila - new super-size hard-drive. (Go to Settings, System Settings, System Information to check).
Share your bought downloads
You can download anything you’ve bought from the store to five PlayStation 3’s. This is useful if you’ve got more than one PS3 (of course) and also if you’ve wiped your hard-drive and don’t fancy paying for the same download twice…
However, you can also choose to share your download with your mates. The PlayStation Store logs how many times each download has been downloaded by each user. On your mate’s PS3 Create New User and log onto the store with your ID. You’ll now be able to go to your download and see that you’ve already downloaded whatever it was that you paid for. You can now download it again, using another of your downloads and giving it to your mate for free. Or a small optional charge…
9) Force a PS3 to show your files
Put your photos in a folder called ‘PICTURE’ or your videos in a folder called ‘VIDEO’ or simply *force* your PS3 to look at your files on your stick regardless of what you called them or where you put them. Insert your stick and go to the menu option you want (Photos, Music, whatever). Press Triangle to bring up a menu and choose Display All. This will show every file on the stick. It even works for a plugged-in iPod, though the multi-folder structure you’ll reveal is a bit baffling. Still, your songs are in there if you’ve got the patience to find them.
10) Change your album art
When you import a music CD your PS3 automatically pulls down the album art and stores it with the tracks. Occasionally it gets it wrong, however, or it may simply not be able to find the art of your hipper, less commercial tracks. This is easily fixed however. Download a pic of the art you need as a jpg on your PC and put it onto a stick (in a folder called PICTURE, ideally). Copy it to your Photo menu (press Triangle). Now go to Music and select the album folder with the offending art. Press Triangle and select Information. Go to the Photo menu and select your new picture. Bingo.

just a heads up for you guys, you cannot share ALL games. i believe Warhawk is not sharable. usually its just the cheaper PSN games that you can share. but games like Warhawk, the upcoming Gran Turismo 5 Prologue etc, cannot be shared (correct me if i'm wrong). Tekken 5 DR can though.
i'm guessing the way Sony is going to do it is, any PSN game that is released on BD as well will not be sharable, but any game that is exclusive to PSN, you can share.
still, there will be lots of PSN games that will be sharable.

If we can only get them in French in Qc, I'll have to get them shipped to Toronto!
anybody order the 5 free movies from Quebec in English?...
or do we have to get them sent to ppl in other provinces?

You can sell Ratchet & Clank on ebay for at least $45 if its sealed
Ratchet is one of the top 3 PS3 games of the year. You'd easily get good cash for it, but it's a definite keeper and must have in any PS3 library even if that's not your fav genre.

Wow thats actually really good time, since Purolator was closed on Christmas and Boxing Day. Maybe this stuff is shipping from the West.
Yea I was surprised it was so fast. It came from Ontario, it said on the tracking page it was at some depot in Ontario yesterday. Just can't wait to go get it tomorrow morning!
The purolator slip says it's available at 11, anyone know if I go in earlier if they'll be able to find it?

Just order it from Dell. I mean really. Once in a while, we CAN purchase from the retailer that has it on special, not only by PMing at FS/BB. How much does that really save you compared to the hassle of doing so?

Tomorrow the deal ends.....
Very upset.
I went to Sherway Gardens to try my luck......
Lets begin with Future Shop:
They said they cannot price match a "mail in order" deal. Also he mentioned the fact that THEY would be losing money by price matching everything in the bundle.
After some arguement, I left, and decided to try my luck at the best buy close to it.
Best buy came with the biggest bull-zhit ever. The employee told me that they don't pm Dell. When I asked him why, he said he doesn't know. Then the dept representative came and said he would not price match a "bundle". This one was even more of an ass, and said he would not do it, and that he would not allow it. When i asked for the manager he told me the manager was busy and I could try later, but that the manager would still not approve it (mind you, I had printed the ad on dell.ca and written down 2 physical locations of the place). And that they would also be losing money by doing that bundle (but how is that my problem?)
With that in mind, I decided to give a try to Walmart.
After waiting 15 mins for an employee, and some discussion with a manager, they told me they would pricematch it..... the catch? well, they would pricematch it for 369, but they wouldn't include the cables OR the game/controller, so I could buy the 40 gig system with spiderman and the controller for 369, but thats it......... obviously I was furious by then and left.
Went to EB games there and they told me they don't price match, period.
End of the story? Well, I came home and decided to order from Dell. Well deserved since the deal dell is offering is great, I hope all those stores can go fcuk themselves.
And for many who say "oh, but you only save 2.5 by pming", the whole purpose of pming was so that i could physically get the ps3 atm. I really don't feel like waiting.......
Anyways, I strongly suggest everyone gives credit to Dell and order through them. Pming was a freaking pain at Sherway. I wasted 3 hours I could have used doing something else.
I guess the best solution is wait till it arrives in the mail (btw, anyone knows around how long it should approx take if I put my order tonight at like 9 pm)
Btw, does dell send a receipt too? cause how are we supposed to get the 5 blu ray movies without a receipt?
Good luck to everyone else

Spidey at 1080P is great.
For the console menu and gaming, resolution at 1080i is great, but not at 1080p. At 1080p, the picture flickers/jumps at random times, occurs more often in gaming. I don't know if it is the same with the original firmware, yeah I took the system update. Anyone has the same problem :?:

I don't think there is a "proper" way to set up your PS3. I think it really depends on the TV that you are hooking it up to. I have a Viewsonic 32" w3252 LCD and it seems to display better when I use the Component cables over the HDMI and it also looks better to me when its in 720p, instead of 1080i. At least it looks better in Ratchet and Clank, which was the game I really tested it on. I think it's all trial and error.

Generally games will look better in 720p or 1080p rather than 1080i due to the intense movement. Component cables are great, but I don't believe the PS3 will upconvert your regular DVD's unless you're hooked up thru HDMI.

wouldn't the ps3 upconvert to 720p or 1080i over component? I'll have to test that out. There are so many things you can do with a PS3, even if you don't have any games.

Finally bit the bullet and ordered today - now I'm in the PSWii60 camp :) And I bought an HDDVD player so I'm totally format neutral.
Although for some reason the price is $370 instead of $369!
Estimated ship date is 1/03/08.
Ordered a DS as well as they are totally sold out across Edmonton.

Well after careful deliberation and research i opted to pick up the PS3 40 gig. What a great price considering all that is bundled in. Also headed over to BB and grabbed GRAW2 and RS Vegas for 20 bucks each. With all the incredible games lined up for the ps3 if you are even thinking of getting one here is a great opportunity. My days with Micro$oft have finally ended. If only they paid me by the hour for all the time I have wasted with xbox/live support, trips to fed ex etc to pick up my 4th refurbushed xbox, I would be able to retire now. :cheesygri

Yeah, it kinda blows - but my fault as I sat on the fence on this for a long time. I wanted to mull it over to make sure I didn't suffer from buyer's remorse. I finally convinced myself that it was too good of a deal to pass up :)

Ordered late on Boxing Day and received it at noon. Took less than 48 hours to get to Calgary. I can't believe they shipped the HDMI cable in a separate box. There is lots of room in the big box with the PS3. Happy Happy!!:) :)
Ordered on Christmas Day and got it today! Pretty quick... hats off to Dell!
Everything came in a HUGE box for me.... console, game, HDMI cable and packing slip. Yeah, seems kinda weird they would ship the cable separately. Maybe they ran out of stock and it's being drop-shipped from some wholesaler...?

The HDMI cable arrived the next day in another oversized box :| The packing slip was in the 2nd box too. Seems inefficient and wasteful to me but maybe Dell has their reasons.

I'd say go for it. The PS3 really blows away the Wii. It's a complete all around media centre for streaming media from your computer, Blu-Ray player, you can download actual retail PS3 games from the Playstation Store, and visually, games look worlds better on the PS3 in comparison to the Wii, I'm very pleased with my purchase.

i have a Wii as well, to me, the pS3 will play blue ray and games that needs high power console and ps3 specific like heavenly sword, while on the Wii i will keep it for zelda and super smash bros. Brawl and alike. Both console are justified to have equal play time.
Having said that, ordered mine on 28th noon, now it shows shipped on Dell website, I dont know if purolator deliver on saturday, coz the website shows no tracking info yet (less than 24 hours).

I am very dissapointed with the PS3. I mainly bought it because my xbox 360 died on me (surprise surprise), and thought hey maybe it would be a great idea and jump into the ps3 bandwagon.
No only I found out that is has absolutely no quality exclusives a.k.a Mass Effect, Gears of War, Bioshock, etc... Don't ge me wrong Ratchet and Clank was fun but it only lasted 3 days!
I bought Resistance, and I think the graphics and gameplay are horrendeous. Rented Heavenly sword, beatiful graphics, but good enough to entertain me for 3 hours after smashing the same buttons over and over.
Was going to buy a second copy of NHL 08 which I own on the Xbox360(Greatest hockey game since NHL 94), I downloaded the demo just to see if it was the same quality as the 360. After 10 seconds of play I noticed the frames were not as smooth as the 360, did some google searching and apparently EA's game on the PS3 are locked at 30fps compared to 60fps on the xbox.
So far I am a very dissapointed PS3 owner, waiting for more games to come out. Overall the PS3 is a great blu-ray player with not exclusive games, and awful multi-platform games (check Orange Box reviews on gamerankings 96 overall on the 360 compared to 80 on the PS3)
Sorry just wanted to vent, while I wait for M$ to send me my xbox back from repairs :(

Get Uncharted or Call of Duty 4 or Unreal Tournament III or Warhawk or Ninja Gaiden Sigma or Motorstorm...
It seems like you just need some time to get used to the PS3 feel as you'll no doubt have withdrawal symptoms from Microsoft fanboy syndrome.
Isn't it a great feeling not having to worry about your console breaking or leaving it on or scratching your discs or the noise or having to pay for online play?

I have no regrets about my PS3 purchase and next year is looking good. Bring on Killzone and Little Big Planet!
Withdrawal from the MS Magic Juice can be a painful experience. Persevere and see the whole world.

I totally see your point. I bought a PS3 because I think it has the brightest future of any system, is the best value of any system (no need to buy an external HD, High Def Player, Wifi etc...) and it compliments my Wii perfectly. It definetly has the weakest game lineup of the big 3 systems currently. Wii for when I have friends over, PS3 for GT5, GTA4 etc... Pretty much all of the games I want on 360, I can buy for PC, so I think I have the next gen covered pretty nicely now. :)

Fast shipping indeed.
Ordered late on the 26th, shipped on the 27, arrived in Vancouver on the 28th.
Two boxes like everyone else, and definately cheaper HDMI cable compared to the 3 dollar ones at monoprice.
Over all very good experience with dell, though COD4 and Assasins Creed are suppose to ship next week....
As for issues with 1080p someone posted here, I'll have to report back on that tonight as I never noticed any problems on mine when 1080P was available.

I've got mine yesterday, I'm playing R&C and ABSOLUTELY LOVING IT! It brings back great memories of Donkey Kong Country 64, which I have to admit even SMG hadn't done. Although I'm let down by the lack of quality titles, I still have a fully working 360, ps3 is a very good blu-ray player which is great. I do enjoy the web browser a great deal more than the Wii one as this one is more functional although has its own quirks.
So far I'm pretty happy, I can't wait for the FF games or hell even MGS4(even though I'm not a huge fan still great game), also there are reports that Devil May Cry 4 will be BETTER*gasp* on the PS3 as its the primary platform of development.
ALSO if you have any long time PS3 owing friends then get them to give you some of their PSN games for free, as somone else posted you get 5x to d/l it on 5 different machines.
its a big downer that you have to INSTALL anything on the machine, WTF? Don't get any of that nonsense on the 360(thankfully). Installing full games sure, but demos? Your machine is basically unusable for up to 5 minutes sometimes(fun anyone?).
PS3 vs 360, 360 FTW BUT PS3 is alot of fun no doubt I've played all the big demos on there and I'm hungering for Drake and my friend's d/l of Warhawk(GREAT GAME!!).
I'm not morning the loss of my $420.66, actually I be really happy if my local wallymart had a better ps3 selection right now(they suck :( )
Edit: NO sharing allowed on Warhawk :( but I bought it anway great game!

Ratchet and Clank bug?
From bottom right corner, a line of junk extends to center while playing the game. Anyone notice it?
I connected with hdmi, TV was default to 16:9 which overscan a bit and didn't see the junk because it was outside the view. If the TV changed to "just scan" so the full 1920x1080 fits on the screen unaltered, the junk show up.
Some on a separate monitor. Must be Ratchet and Clank bug.

I've seen a cover for it that makes it the shape of the 360 controller, not sure where you can get it though. I also hate the sixaxis as its essentially still a snes controller with legs and is not ergonomic at all nor is it big enough for north american hands. I still choose to live with it though as I hate any 3rd party controller i've ever tried.

PS3 is awesome!
Does anybody know how well the Video chat works??
So you have 2 controllers ? you shouldve got the HDMI cable from them as they are worth $70+
The HDMI cable that comes with Dell is decent but will do the job probably compared to monoprice, etc...
Which BB location did you go to ? and how did you do it ?
P.S. My PS3 just got shipped today and ordered yesterday night

yeah...didn't know that it wasn't included, lol
brought everything to the counter...showed them print out from Dell
couple of objections, I said I had no problem waiting for them to check it out...they didn't bother, lol...cash rang everything in $500+++!!!! yikes!...cashier called manager by phone, manager said fine but no 10% (meh, lol)
I got the components cuz my relatives here only have that....and already ordered HDMI from Monoprice :D

I tried returning my PS3 bundle to Dell but they said that they don't allow refunds for anything game related. Is that true?

Dell: $370 - discount + tax
PS3, ratchet and clank, HDMI cable (apparently not so good?)Yes, the bundled HDMI cable is POS for my high end Sammy plasma. Worked fine on 2 HDMI ports but not the 3rd port. I swapped with monoprice cable, worked fine in all 3 ports. The flicker image is only on OS screen and games, fine on BlueRay playback.

I talked to a Dell rep the other day before ordering a PS3 and she said they dont charge a restocking fee if you aint a business and that you have 30 days to return it. Yours isnt even open yet so I dont see why they wouldnt take it back, did you try to call more then that one time they denied you ?

The problem is that the return policy is only for Dell-branded products.
"Under Dell's "Total Satisfaction Return Policy", end-user Customers who buy Dell-branded productsdirectly from Dell may return them to Dell up to 30 days after you receive them for a refund of the product purchase price if already paid."

I just wish they had been upfront about it. When I go to stores, and something is non-refundable(due to sale), then they have huge signs near the checkout or have the cashier explicitly say that they don't take refunds on it. Having to delve into semantics in their Terms and Conditions was incredibly annoying, especially since most people would assume that they could take back unopened electronics. At the very least, they could've at least had an area on the checkout page that said: "This item is not a Dell-branded product, and as such, cannot be refunded or exchanged."

True but you have full backwards compatibilty at least. For me the 40GB PS3 was a great deal at a great time. I have a slim PS2 so backwards compatibility is a nonissue for me, and the much lower power consumption on the 40GB is a huge bonus (something like 140W vs 220W on 20/60/80GB models).
Plus, the 40GB PS3 seems to make very little fan noise, which I like. My Xbox360 was much louder.

I am now an owner of a PS3 and a Wii...Dell shipped it in one day (though I'm not sure how long Purolator will take to deliver).
Too bad I missed the Call of Duty 4 deal on boxing day. The lowest price that I can find currently is $45 at Dell but then it takes them about 7 days to ship compared to same day shipping with the PS3.
Anyone know where I can get COD4 at that price? I tried pming with both Best Buy and Futureshop (British Columbia) and they both denied the pm.

Or can you actually save ur games (not game profiles) on the HD?

There are lots of game demo's, movie trailers, game trailers and blu-ray previews you can download on PSN for free, and you can also purchase some games and download them to your hard drive. The demo's seem to average about 1GB each, so they will add up if you keep them on your hard drive. Don't forget that it's extremely easy and relatively cheap to upgrade to a bigger HD in the future.

I was a doubter when I picked up the package but it is actually a pretty fun little game.
The only problem would be that it is too short (and in most cases too easy) but other than that the graphics are great and the gameplay is unique. The only other game I can think of that I would prefer to have would be NHL08.

Yes you can, but you need id and they will only issue you store credit. There is no doubt going to be a post from the morality police on this forum telling you that this is a fraudulent activity and poor Wal-Mart loses out, but as far as I am concerned no really loses if the game is returned sealed as it can be sold all over again.

Ok, so today i woke up and felt that i needed a PS3. I www.dell.ca and find that dell is sellin it for dirt cheap but of course, the gamer i am, i wanted it now. I thought to myself, would bestbuy, futureshop, or walmart PM dells deal? So let the story begin.
I drive down to bestbuy at sherway hoping that bestbuy will PM dell. Its worked before, so why not now? I go in and see a massive line up at the customer server desk so im like " screw this" and decided to ask a rep or manager. I find a young fella n asked him if BB PM dell. Well, his answer was like " Our manager has rejected 20 other customers who tried to PM the ps3 wit DELL" So i was like ok, peace.
I just finish talkin on the phone with one of my buddies and he told me that walmart does PM. Well my luck, Walmart next to a bestbuy, worth a try. I go in and see that a lady was alrdy helping a customer. Funny customer i must say because it was trying to purchase a gamecube for his kid for 80 BUCKS. I was gonna tell him to go to EB whos selling it for 40 bucks but at the end he decided he didnt want it. ANYWAYS back to the story. I ask the lady if they PM dell n they said sure, show me the flyer. All i had on me was a printer out version and i told her i can show her the online deal if she gave me permission to use one of her comps. She said, " Walmart does not PM unless you have an actual flyer". That was the end of my visit.
So after all this rejection, i decided to try my luck out at Futureshop at Dundas. I walked in and saw a rep right away. I asked him if they PM dell, and he said Yea. I was like YES FINALLY SOME1 WHO PM DELL. He tried to look for some1 to take his spot so he can help me but the only person he found was a manager. The manager comes by n ask " Sup" and i was like im trying to PM dell. Well, when he came, is when my luck started going down. He said that FS does not PM Dell because they do not have an actual store. I told him about the one at Sherway but he said "that store only places order like dell.ca, you can't buy anything from there...." I've never been there before but i started making some BS up to try to convince him. But at the end, he was like i can't do it because i want to keep my job and PM with dell will make me lose it. I just LOL at his face n walked away.
Anyways, this deal seems to end today. Im gonna try to convince my dad to put it on his CC but i really wanted a ps3 today. Congrats to the people who did get the PM but i was on of the unlucky ones. 3 strikes and im out.

I traded mine in for Uncharted Drake's Fortune at Walmart just got home from there. They gave me $67.xx on GC. I said I bought it from there and cant find the receipt and also said I wanted to exchange it for another game that was the same value if that matters. You do need ID and they have to ask the manager to approve this return. Not recommended though
One Bestbuy would only give me half the value on GC and I said no thanks

So, I was like might as well give Bestbuy a shot since it's right across the street. I asked the dude if he would pm dell and he said he wouldn't being the sneaky RDF'er that I am, I told the guy that I talked to the head office (does that even exist?) and they said that Bestbuy should PM the deal. And to my shock the guy without saying another word got me a PS3, HDMI Cable, and the game without hesitation and the whole transaction was pretty smooth.

He has an OPEN BOX 40gib PS3, that he is bundling with Virtua Fighter 5 for 420 dollars. Some crap about saving 120 dollars (WTF????). These guys are just looking a little stunned and walk away.
Like really?? Call it FutureSCAM.

Nhl08 is a greatgame, but not on the PS3, it's locked at only 30fps, very choppy compared to the 360 running at 60fps.

Yeah I heard a lot of online qq'ing about the frame rate @ 30fps, but honestly aside from already reading about it you can't tell a damn thing? Choppy? No way I played a bunch of online games, and solo games with my bro and it played fine.

Windows Media Player 11 does the trick, just go to your Library and enable media sharing, then set the PS3 (which WMP should recognize) to allowable and you're good to go.

If its anything like the 360 you need WMP11 and go into Library and select "share" or something like that.
WMP11 will detect any networked players and ask you to allow sharing to the device.

Ya, mine is 10' as well. Am a little concerned as I've read that you can get away with lower quality hdmi cables, but only if they're 6' or shorter. I tried to find out the specs of this cable - I called Dell for specs and they had nothing in their system on it, so they passed me on to Sony thinking it was one of their cables, and the Sony guy was confused as they only apparently make 6' and 12' lengths.
I'm actually using this cord as the connection from my receiver to my tv, and seems to be good picture quality so far. If anyone can find out what kind of cable we got (for free), please post. Thanks!

Even if anyone was willing to do this for you it wouldn't work. PS3s are all serialized and the serial number of each one is on the receipt.
At best you could try using the packing invoice you receive when you get your PS3.

I don't have my receipt yet, but even if there is/isn't a serial number there's going to be a shipping address listed. Its going to look weird if you have two different addresses listed. And what happens if they record both addresses for the 1 household limit? That's another way someone can get screwed out of 100-150 bucks worth of free movies. I only really plan on keeping maybe FMJ as I don't own it yet... But I can still sell the others or trade 'em.

Yeah no doubt, all 360s have a flaw in them according to MS themselves. The PS3 is much much more reliable. People have tried to kill them before to no avail. I also dont think that comparing any consoles failure rate to that of the the 360 is smart or fair cause teh 360 fails tonnes and the PS3 is supposed to be less than 1%, so it cant be that wide spread at all. The standard 360 warranty is 1 year, but if it goes RROD it gets extended another three years. Alternatively, you can pay $60 to get a 2 year warranty extension thru microsoft to be covered in case anything non rrod goes wrong.

I returned my PS3 for an exchange because of a loose HDMI port that won't keep the video on the screen during game play, (think the fan vibration causes it to move).

Dell has posted a similar deal for the ps3 bundle (console + game + hdmi cables) but it's slightly more expensive at $400 (vs. $370 previously). It still looks like a decent deal though.
For the record, FS (Yonge and Dundas) PM'd the bundle for me on Monday Although they ran out of RaC and said I could get the price but not the game nor could I switch another game for it (although they did upgrade my cables b/c the cheaper ones were sold out - sweet!). However, I did buy COD4 ($10 cheaper b/c Dell advertised a lower price) and when the cashier asked if FS was switching COD for RaC, I said 'sure'. So, in the end, I got the same deal and with the game I actually wanted more!
Ps. BB wouldn't pm - they said they don't pm bundles.
pps. Dell also advertised Madden 08 for $15 cheaper and BB did pm though.

@ SALCHAMP and BELLREP
Salchamp don't listen to Bellrep!!!
Bellrep! WTF?! Out of the list of movies available in the offer those are quite possibly the worst movies on the list! Wild Hogs? SWAT?? Chain Reaction?! Okay, maybe Swordfish and The Devil's Rejects might be personal picks, which, if I try REALLY really hard I might understand.
I mean, okay, I apologize if this sounds like flaming, which I guess it is...but let me explain my standpoint. I got a HD LCD tv recently, and that pushed me over the edge to purchase a PS3, as I wanted to play COD4, but also experience High Definition picture in all it's glorious colour and sharpness. So from the standpoint of getting the most out of my HD tv, and my PS3, there are certain movies on this Blu-Ray offer that I feel would allow me to have as much of the experience as this list would allow. Now, I also enjoy really well made movies, and although not all of the movies on this list would qualify as good movies, some would definitely bring a more entertainment value to the table than others.
But Wild Hogs over The Prestige AND Pirates? The Devil's Rejects over American Psycho?
Salchamp, I would definitely recommend you cross-reference your picks with Rottentomatoes and DVD-Talk. DVD-Talk is a great website because they not only review the movie itself, but also the QUALITY of the image and sound of the high definition picture on Blu-Ray dvd's (as well as HD-Dvds and SD-DVDs). So, for some of the older movies on this list, it would be pertinent to know how technically sound the transfer was from regular film to high definition picture, and what quality the audio was transferred with too.
So for me, wanting to experience as much of the potential that high definition has to offer, I would naturally choose Pirates OR The Prestige because I know that they are movies that were #1: Good movies, and #2: contain special visual and sound effects that I would definitely want to check out in High Definition. Wild Hogs? Universally panned as a terrible movie...why waste your time?? If you wanna get that full experience of things blowing up and debris and sweat flying, not to mention Keira Knightly's or Scarlett Johansson's hotness, shoot man...ya know? But if a not-even-that-funny male orgy is your type of thing then...hey, chacun son gout!
That said, I know you're going to say that's why Swordfish would be a good pick...but Swordfish is up against some REALLY stiff competition in it's category on the list! The original Superman is a movie that still stands up as a superhero movie to be reckoned with. The musical score still gives me goosebumps, and cinematically it is breathtaking at times, especially at for some scenes with Clark on the farm. I actually bought it because I picked Full Metal Jacket, and the picture looks amazing. Granted the movie was made in '78 or so, but they did an amazing job with the transfer. The opening scenes on Krypton looked so rich and vibrant with colour. And Full Metal Jacket itself, I mean, come on!! It's Stanley Kubrick on war! The movie in one word: riveting. The psychoanalysis of some of the soldiers is shocking and moving at the same time. The action is loud and gritty. The Blu-Ray for both Superman and FMJ were both praised for how good the picture looks, and well they sound.
And finally, American Psycho. I mean, if you're looking for a gory horror movie in the traditional mangled-faced, silent, mutated killer genre, then I can't judge. But American Psycho is definitely a horror-thriller not to be missed. Christian Bale is at his best here, playing a serial killer extremely well. He definitely comes off as disturbed, but in a very personal, calm, and in need of years of therapy kind of a way. The movie is awesome. I mean, if you want to see a good movie, on top of one having the blud, goots, and psychoticness, you can't go wrong with American Psycho!!
The last two categories are just a toss-up of bad and/or boring movies that I won't really criticize; they really are up to whatever your personal preference is cuz you can go wrong with all these movies. But out of the first three, I would definitely avoid Wild Hogs and the Devil's Rejects, and recommend Superman and Full Metal Jacket as they are really really well done movies that would definitely be enjoyed.
My Picks were: Pirates, Full Metal Jacket, American Psycho, The Patriot, The Last Waltz.
I picked The Patriot because I'll take a Mel Gibson flick (even if he has outed himself as being anti-semitic lol) over Colin Farell and the trash that Ultraviolet is anyday.
I was gonna pick Hart's War, but I was interested in seeing what Scorcese's little bio on The Band would be like, and to hear some good tunes from some classic classic rock artists. I dunno, I might regret that one if it gets too damn country lol
Salchamp, I hope this helps. Even if they are free movies, how much better would you feel if you thoroughly enjoyed most of them and discovered something new about film? I'd feel great!!
Bellrep, I hope you have time to change your picks. If not, again, I apologize for flaming, but I couldn't let salchamp pick those movies!! I don't mean to criticize your taste, because everyone's is personal and I can definitely respect that. And maybe you only have a SD or 720p TV and thus aren't too concerned with seeing things in high definition. And that's cool too. But when certain movies get poorly reviewed not by one critic, but by many, as well as by audiences, then usually it means that there is a trend going on with that movie. And also, I hope that this helps choosing movies that will net you the full experience of high definition.

I believe if you log onto your account on Dell.ca, click on your order, there is an option to specifically request a copy of invoice if you didn't get one.
I ordered my PS3 on Dec. 26th, got the unit on Dec. 28th. Just received the receipt today via mail.

You didnt factor in that I already have Pirates Of The Caribbean, Hart's War, and The Patriot. American Psycho looks boring to me, I dont plan to watch The Devil's Rejects. Full Metal Jacket to me didnt have enought action.
Ohhhh... he dont have to pick exactly what I picked thats why I said "this is what I am choosing" not "you should get these"
This is a bunch of non sense and stupid pn your half

Bellrep. Well shoot...if you've already got Hart's War and The Patriot then hey, what can I say? You never said that, so how could I factor that in? I neither know you or your movie collection. Salchamp asked for recommendations for what he should pick. Assuming he doesn't have any Blu-Ray movies, or any of the movies on this list, which I think is a logical assumption since Salchamp didn't say which ones he had either, I made a recommendation based on that. You never stated that you already had some of these movies, which would have been a pertinent statement because assuming someone didn't have any of these movies, your picks sounded somewhat odd. I know you never said he had to get what you were getting, but your reply was in response to a post that asked for recommendations, which you even quoted in your reply. Now I'm sure you bought Pirates, The Patriot, and Hart's War beforehand for a specific reason, because they weren't half-bad movies! So why not include that information in your reply? But Wild Hogs and the Devil's Rejects are bad movies!! Now I guess I should assume you're choosing Wild Hogs because you've seen and/or own The Prestige and didn't like it. But for someone that my not have seen or own any or all of the movies in category one, Wild Hogs would be my LAST recommendation.
That said, I highly doubt that my posting was non-sensical or stupid in any way. I never said that he had to get any of these movies either...I simply recommended movies that I know to be good, and the ones that were best reviewed by the general public, which means they were enjoyed by many on average.
American Psycho is definitely not a boring movie...if you get the chance you should check it out. Great writing, dialogue, acting, and insane goriness too all rolled in one package. Full Metal Jacket was a war movie about more than just the "action." It's along the same vein of Jarhead, analysing psychological aspects of war on the soldiers, not just pulling triggers and killing people.
In your shoes, I dunno, Devil's Rejects & Ultraviolet both are bad movies, not much choice there, so I hope you can exchange it for something better...I may try to do that with The Patriot and The Last Waltz!
I hope that helps...

deezz,
Thanks very much for the great response, with you help and the others, I'll have my selections in the mail by Monday!
And I still can't get Windows Media Player to 'see' the PS3 on the network. My pc is directly connected while the PS3 is connected wirelessly. Does anyone with a better networking background than me can give me a hand?
And finally, it looks like he 'R1' on my controller stopped working! I last used the controller on Sunday...i hope this is it for defective items.
Cheers!!

Didn't want to deal with the Boxing Day crowd. If I knew there were a bunch of the bin I would have tried going out later in the day however... ah well.
Right now I'm waiting for my PS3 exchange also from dell but yeah my PS3 is connected to a 1080 capable LCD... can't wait!

my ps3 died after week. I had couple of crashes while i was playing ratchet, and one day it crashed, rebooted and disc doesnt load anymore. Not just RC, i tried uncharted, spiderman. If you do search on google "ps3 disc not loading" it seems like a wide spread problem. Somewhat like RROD for 360.
PISSSED. I pmed with futureshop so i just exchanged for another one that may be faulty. If this one breaks again, i am going to refund it and 360 falcon board.
I had the same issue with my PS3.
Called Sony rep right away and they're now sending me a box to ship the PS3 back to Sony for an exchange.

My kids were playing and installing backgrounds.
The original wave background was black, now it has too much white level. The other colors are fine, just the original setting. How do I reduce the white level back to the factory default. Tried the brightness and restore to default, no go.
