I am posting this for an overseas friend without Internet access. He recently acquired an ATI X1950 pro PCI express videocard and wishes to install it in his Intel DG965ss motherboard.

The videocard appears to have a 6 pin connector on it (presumably to supply power?), however, his power supply does not have a 6-pin connector to attach.

Link to videocard image. (http://www.digitan.com.au/image.php?productid=39478) You can see the 6-pin connector in the top-right corner of the image.

Can anyone suggest a power supply that would be good (and inexpensive, if possible?)

Thanks!

What model of power supply does he have? Chances are if it doesn't have a 6-pin cable, it probably isn't good enough to run the card.

If a new PSU is needed I suggest anything from Corsair OR OCZ high quality PSU's you will be very happy.

I believe he currently has a 300w PSU. He'd have the video card, 2 DVD writers, and an HDD that I'm aware of.

If you look at this page:

http://shop.ati.com/product.asp?sku=3122113

under System Requirements:

450-Watt power supply or greater, 30 Amps on 12 volt rail recommended (assumes fully loaded system)
