hey guys

I just bought a new pc

I setup / built / myself

3.0ghz dual core intel
P5n-e Sli
ASUS 8800GTS 640 meg
4 gigs of rams dual channel.
Antec Sonata III with 500 watt Psu (stock)
2xSata 2 500 gigs HDD

windows Xp Corporate edition installed.
Latest Nvidia Drivers.....for the video card.

Here is my problem....

It can happen by just downloading / extracting , making multi tasks (extracting + watching a clip , or listening to music , or just do some Chatting.... and the computer will lockup .... & freeze to death...

everything stops working.....
but the Pc still runs (you hear the fans going ect) it doesn't shut down.....

There's no Beeps (even when i reboot seconds after) , or neither
noise going on when it freezes / Stall .....

*It can happen in a game aswell after every 1 hr or so....
I tryed Uninstalling the Nvidia Firewall that ''seems to cause many folks problems , It didn't solve this issue....''*

I then tryed running nvidia's performance test.... (wich went okay i guess..)

then I tryed Checking for heat problem....
Im Way below normal.. the case & fans are doing their job.........

Im now gonna do a mem test....(maybe if it's ram related.....?!??%)but the system detects my 4 gigs....

WHY WHY WHY am i getting those symptoms??!/$%%/&?&$

i really dunno what to do besides sending my motherboard or video card up to factory....but still it works.... Im pretty sure it isn't related.....

anyone ?

Sounds like an overheating problem?

Try installing Asus Probe (http://www.techspot.com/downloads/265-asus-pc-probe.html), and post up the temperature readings in this thread.

Alternatively, as a temp solution you could try taking off the side panel of your tower, and pointing a fan towards the inside of your rig.

edit: ack oops, I didn't read the second last sentence of your post. Scrap my idea..

Seriously if it's that i will take the Mobo to the factory & never buy anything ASUS MAKE ever.

i had 3 motherboards from them
always good ones not the cheap 50$ ones.... & always had overheating issues I bought this one cause i had a good deal on it.........

I hope it's not the case ... anyways ill try it.

thanks! Ill keep you posted!

if its not a heating issue check you ram by trying one stick of ram at a time if it is a ram issue one of them will show ..........

Bad memory. Run memtest.

You can also try running one stick of memory at a time and rotate through them one by one to try and find the problem.

I assume you're not overclocking.

When I setup my recent PC, it had random freezes and lockups. Turns out the timing of the ram (though set to auto) was too aggressive. Just another suggestion.
