So I bought the Hot FS Acer with geforce 8600M gt with a tosheba HD DVD player. Every thing works fine on the lap top as far as sound and picture. When i hook a hdmi cable from comp to pioneer tv everything shows up except the actual movie and sound. The play/pause/sound bottons and curser show up but no movie. When i do the small sound test i can get the tv to beep like computer. But no other sound, even with internet movies. I don't think it is the hdmi cable. What is my problem? I have downloaded the newest drivers i think. thanks

Hi bluebike5...here are 3 links (all to the same site but 3 different threads) that might be helpful...I'm trying to solve HD playback issues with the Acer 5920 myself (I assume that's the laptop you're referring to)...I have more to add if you're interested in getting a discussion going...perhaps more will participate...but I haven't yet been able to get to the ultimate stage of 1080p HD-DVD playback on my 1080p LCD...

...and for others interested in contributing here, please post actual experiences rather than opinion, editorials or 'mine's bigger than yours' stories;)...there seems to be a lot of technical expertise here on RFD that sometimes gets lost in a sea of 'Acer sucks!', 'Blue Ray rules!' and '+1' comments...thanks and...cheers:)

Great links. Thanks. Ya the laptop won't play the dvd with both the laptop monitor and the plasma hooked up. I made the plasma my only display and it works great. Looks great to. Thanks

And how did you switch it so only the display showed on your plasma?

m2teach...this worked for me...install your other display driver...then...Control Panel > NVIDIA Control Panel > Set up multiple displays...connect your display (I used HDMI cable)...use the drop down boxes to find your display...
The NVIDIA control panel also offers more options to choose resolution etc...cheers

If you are still having issues here is some help.
1. Connect computer to hdtv through HDMI select that input on your tv and it should give you a option on your laptop to configure the laptop and tv to whatever you desire (Clone, Only HDTV etc.) In order to get video on your TV you must make your TV the primary device the other options of clone extended are your choice.
2. To get sound go to control panel then sound and it will show 3 options:
HDMI, Digital Out, Speakers
a. HDMI .. if you want your sound to come from whatever your HDMI is plugged into make that your default.
b. Digital Out ... if you want to plug in a wire into the front of your laptop (1st hole on the right the black one) and have 2 RCA audio cables plug into your home theater (red/white cables)
c. Speaker .. audio comes out of laptop
3. Getting only 720p instead of 1080p
If this is the problem you need a newer driver.
http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/content/support/downloads/driver_video_nvidia_os2007383a.exe
Download that .. then extract to folder. Now to go control panel -> system - device manager - display adapter - nvidia - update driver -- have disk -- browse to folder and locate .inf
restart computer and you'll now have the option of 1080p.
Enjoy.
PS. Any problems playing certain HD-DVDs try a program called AnyDVD HD.
