a little cold for the architectural boat tour, but this is truly worth it. If you are looking for restaurants, here are three I strongly recommend

Japonais

N9ne Steakhouse
http://www.n9ne.com/

The Capitale Grille

make reservations, you will not be disappointed

I travel to Chicago a lot; in fact, I'll be there on Friday. Great town, very underrated.

Recommendations:

- Walk/Shop the Magnificent Mile

- Visit Navy Pier

- Try a Chicago-Style Deep Dish Pizza (Lou Malnati's FTW!)

- Tour the Field Museum, Chicago Art Institute

- Skate at Millennium Park

When I was there, they offered the boat tour around the city...but that was in the summer, I'm not so sure about the winter. Other than that, we went up Hancock Tower, walked the Mag Mile and had some of their Chicago style pizza, which everyone MUST try once in a lifetime.:)

I went there with the gf from Dec 26-28, also stop by the Lighthouse Outlet on the way.

We lived in the Hilton Garden which was pretty close to everything and fairly priced (IMO). I believe it was about $260USD for two night with tax and parking was another $44 USD. We went to Lou Malnatis as people have suggested. I'm not sure what good Pizza taste like but it was good. Lots of toppings, cheese, and the dough was good. We also had their special salad, which was a surprise with all the ingrediants. Overall it was good and cheap. Lots of people were still lining up there when we got there around 8pm.

Next morning we hit the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, and the Planetarium. we bought the City pass so we saved some money. It took pretty much the whole morning + bits of afternoon to get through these places. The Shedd Aquarium was really good and I really enjoyed it. The Field Museum was okay, but nothing compared to the ones I went in London. The Planetarium was slightly too kiddish for my liking.

We decided to walk to the Navy Pier which took about an hour or so of walking. It was really brisk wintery weather, not very cold but still pretty far walk. I'll bet this place would be great for biking in the summer, just like the Toronto Lake Shores/Beaches. We stopped by the Fountain for some pictures but not knowing, we were on the wrong side so I could only take a long distance shot in a very orangey lighting. Continuing to the Navy Pier which I must admit was a disappointment. It was not what I was expecting. A lot of the outdoor shops were closed and the indoor stuff were meh at the best. We took the free city tour bus back to the Magnificient Mile and walked to John Hancock building.

Since we didn't eat a lot during the day we decided to splurge a bit for dinner. Ended up going to the Signature Room on the John Hancock building for dinner (I'm sure we could've gone another place to eat but we were really tire from all the walking). The food was decent for the price we paid. The only complaint we have was the bread was cold and hard, the sauce on the gf's lamb chop doesn't really go well with the lamb. I had the surf and turf so I was happy :)

The view from the John Hancock building was very good. Though maybe it's me, but the elevator was shaking quite a bit while going up (not like the CN Tower ones). The whole building seems to shake a bit with people walking, I couldn't even get a decent night shot (even with VR)!

Overall I thought Chicago was a wonderful city, I just wish I had a bit more time. I would love to hit up the Science Center and walk around a bit more.

I juz back from chicago today. This city is pretty good but it's so cold, i think it's colder than toronto. I did try the lou malnatis pizza, it's so good and cheap. The pizza was so juicy. I went to to scence center, it's huge and we spent 5 hrs over there therefore we didn't hv enough time to head to University of Chicago. Btw, how did u take that good quality of pix?

Chicago is a beautiful city, but VERY cold. Make sure to bundle up. There are some great venues downtown and going to anything on the water front should be lovely.
