Gotta love those SiRs. They were only sold by Honda Canada for those exact 2 years as well, which makes the matters worse.

I know of someone who has had 2 SiRs stolen in a row, after which he has switched to an RSX-S and he felt much more comfortable leaving his car in a public parking lot than ever.

Why would people steal vans? Bit confused by that one.... yeah, those SiRs are quite rare!

you think thieves know its an SiR if you remove all obvious badging, ie, the SiR logo at the back (leave the civic one...), remove the vtec dohc decal from the sides? leave the front and rear lips alone? I've always wondered how thieves identify SiRs... liek the differences are there, but like easily covered, seats -> tint windows, gauges -> tint windows....

Becuase all you need is a flathead screwdriver to start the car.

disc brakes at the rear, body colored side skirts and side moldings, front grill as well.

Or they just glance at the VIN. Also, it helps since the Canadian SiR (EP1) is the only Civic Hatchback of that generation...

EM1 is the chassis code for the coupe, which had no SiR version AFAIK...

I have a 2000 civic si.....

I ALWAYS use the club on it because of it's reputation..

don't think most car jackers carry a hacksaw with them or will bother with the trouble...

Well you can be relieved that the Si doesn't have the vtec motor that thieves love so much... but it's pretty smart to use the club still.

Not entirely true. Firstly the 99-00 Canadian Civic "SiR" wasn't even anything special really, it was just the US Si, branded SiR because we had a cheaper more stripped down version of the Si which was called the Si here.

I.e.

99-00
Canadian Civic Si < US Civic Si
Canadian Civic SiR = US Civic Si

Secondly, the Civic SiR was also seen in 02-05 where it was a hatchback and not a coupe. Again SiR was just the Canadian name (though I don't believe there was a stripped down hatchback Si in Canada as there was with the previous Si/SiR coupe).

The Canadian Si for 96-00 was actually the US Civic Ex model. So to be more fair we did get the same cars not a stripped down version they were just labled differently.

US Si = CAD SiR
US Ex = CAD Si

Vans are easy to haul stuff in, some thieves will steal a van then use it to move stuff right after.

Also the older vans are easy to steal. But notice how pretty much any car on the most stolen list is an older model. Also the fact that none of them have a factory standard immobilizer.

Well that and the SiR engines are easily swappable into almost any civic, so they sell easily.

Since Transport Canada apparently cares so much about vehicular theft, maybe they should just ban all Civics.
