Marketing is a funny thing. Put a label of a station wagon on these things, and people run the opposite direction.

When you put buzz words like SUV, people come running to it.

Why can't car makers just start making more functional vehicles like the Malibu Maxx? I loved the functionality of that car, but it was not too attractive. Usable storage area and in a sedan format, would do wonders for people and help the environment. We won't need to buy this big gas sucking cars.

they put a 5 door hatch body on an small/medium size SUV frame. Doesn't look like it would have much storage in the back, which makes it far less useful.

It's the engine which makes this car so special.

That being said it seems kinda pointless.

I like it. Kinda looks like a BMW version of the FX if you ask me... Kinda like a 3-series and an FX had... Well you get the picture, lol. The front isn't all that nice but the rest looks good to me.

I thought the BMW Sport Vans (minivans) were supposed to be upcoming though? I didn't even hear about this crossover type vehicle...

Is it a car? Is it a SUV?
It's like a mix between a SUV and a wagon.

Uhh, ususally we call these crossovers, no? It's not like it's the first one...

The rear window seems small for the car, and I doubt visibility will be that good

Hmm maybe they put a rear-view camera on it; or at least it should be an option...

Yeah the rear window does seem small.

Hmm maybe they put a rear-view camera on it; or at least it should be an option...

At the price BMW would be demanding for this, [which im not sure of, but probably ~60k?], the rear view camera should be standard.

I still think it looks ugly.

not bad, the front looks nice but the back is a little mixed :|

If they price it right, I could see it doing well. I prefer it over the x3.

You know I was digging it until I saw the interior.

What's up with the deadpedal? Did they use some leftover siding from the design office?

I think this a market test, to see how far people will go to buy a not so practical car based on exterior looks and engine power alone.

The shape reminds me of a Mazda CX-7/CX-9.

Definitely the best looking of the X-Series. I like the look of it.

Actually it doesn't. It doesn't look like anything else out there. Only the front looks the same as another BMW, it doesn't look like a mazda, Kia, or Subaru wrx is any shape or form.

It looks like a BMW because it is a BMW

Looks great. But it is too small to be considered a SUV

I'm withholding judgment on the rear-end until I can see it in person. That being said, the front-end is awesome. The sides I aren't offensive...

I dont mind the looks of it, and other than its price tag, its probably fairly practiocal for most urban people.

But I see nothing "SUV" about it. Nothing. Its just too damn "low" (headroom, wheel clearance, body/suspension) to have ANY sport/utility capabilities. This is a highway vehicle, plain and simple.
It looks like a more elegant station wagon (stigma or not) or just a hatchback sedan like so many cars in the 80's and 90's were due to their practicality, heck even sports cars were hatchbacks then....Mustang GT, Camaro Iroc, etc..Whats old is new again.

Bmws response to Infiniti and Audi; and out of the 3 I think this looks alot better than those three. I am not a fan of this segment; but this would probably be the thing to buy from those CUV.

This is hardly "unique". Look at the 2008 Infiniti EX's roofline (bottom pic). See the rear window 'notch'. Almost identical hood/roof proportions? These cars are SUVs? I don't see much sport OR utility here.
