I drove my brother to Scarborough Town centre around 11am. The roads were pretty bad even the TTC bus on McCowan got stuck in a ditch. Glad I got snow tires, it pays off in this weather. The snow plowers were clearing the roads when I drove home.. It's getting better

Had to get home, so I drove. Idiots with SUV crapboxes and the like were getting stuck and spinning out all around me. Quattro was working a bit, but as always, it worked well. To prevent others from hitting me when I'm parked and shopping, I park away from any turns and usually in the middle of some snow and ice. Most people won't park near me because they know they will get stuck.

drove around my area just for fun. VERY fun but still had to be safe. nothing special. today would be the day for those to practice their winter driving since not a lot of cars were on the road or even drive around in a parking lot.

Many many idiot drivers today. There was this Tercel literally moving at 10km/h on Finch, even the bus had to pass her, and when I looked over beside her, I noticed that her chest was right up against the steering wheel.
I almost got stuck on a side street, a minivan got stuck in front of me, but I managed to escape thanks to my winter tires.

I drove around Markham and Scarborough today as it was a busy weekend for me. Glad that I got a set of Nokian WR tires coupla weeks ago and they are really great in the snow! Like others have said, the roads were full of snow...
The more snow the merrier :)

Went out early this morning just for fun. Had about 15-20 cm of fresh snow. (about 8 in)
Later I went out with my daughters and we played with their cars in the snow. They have been bugging me about snow tires so I wanted to show them what to expect without them.
Here's what they found out:
Mom's 4x4: Too easy. But surprisingly it doesn't always follow the front wheels if you are doing 20+ in deep churned snow. I found out that you can drive over curbs in a parking lot and not even notice them when they are buried.
Ford Contour 6cyl Manual: Fun. You can get it stuck if you try. Following other car tracks is the best plan to avoid trobule. Learned how to rock the car out of problems.
Ford Contour 4cyl Auto: Not as much fun as the manual, but it was just as hard to get stuck. Much easier to get into a tire-spinning situation though. harder to rock out of getting stuck.
Mazda Precidia (MX-3) 6cyl Manual: Not much fun. Gets stuck way too easy, stays stuck way too easy. Sprays chunks of snow on Dad when he's pushing. Skates all over the place when you are driving in churned snow.
The really interesting thing was that both the Contour 4cyl auto and the Mazda 6cyl manual have the exact same front tires. They are Bridgestone G009 and they have a sporty tread. Yet the two cars were entirely different in the snow. Driving the Contour was fairly straightforward, but the Mazda was hard freaking work.

driving isn't the hard part as long as you drive slow enough.... but try not to get stuck in the snow is the tough part....
both two of my family cars got stuck multiple times (1.6EL with snow tires and Elantra with 4-seasons).. -_-"
I think my Elantra lost about 1/16" of tire thread from all the tire spining today...>:(

Drove around Oshawa this afternoon, and this evening. No problems.
FWIW, my Kumho Touring A/S 795 are very good in snow.

Drove around in my Impala with all seasons. No problem at all. The amazing thing is my commute to work today was the fastest it has been inn years because of all the people staying home.

Brantford ON to Toronto this morning under 2hrs. Left home at 5am like I do during winter months to start work at 8am. I was doing between 80-110 at all the way.
I saw a 4x4 cherokee in a ditch, driver must have thought he is immune to the snow. I do have snow tyres and rims, best investment I have to say from crappy tire, and they are easy to swap during the spring.
I had to shovel my driveway 3 times yesterday, back breaking I tell ya.

Tires make a world of a difference in situations like these. I often got stuck in the back lanes with fresh unplowed snow, sometimes even halfway into my own garage
Aside from having good set of rubbers, driving technique is also very important when it comes to not getting stuck. Fresh snow with very little tracks, don't even try going against the grain plowing through packs of snow. When you come upon an intersection and have to stop don't stop right on the tracks where everybody's driven as it's probably very slippery. Instead, stop off-track where snow is not as packed or there's some fresh snow.
Each car handles differently, go to the lot and find out your car's limitation, actions, and reactions to certain commands.

Blue Mountain back to Toronto with all season tires last night.
No problems except taking an extra 30 minutes - and even stopped to help someone push their car out of the snowbank. Don't know how all these cars had problems following the road...

I have a new Outback with AWD and winter tires on, so I wanted to see how it handled in the snow. Very impressive, even better than my Rav4 with winters on.
I think the real key advantage was the massive ground clearance on the car, though, I could drive through a foot of snow without it even touching my undercarriage. I actually went around a Hummer that was stuck on a side street! Boy did he ever looked upset that I was able to go through where he couldn't. Sorry there, tiny dick!

Outback has about 8.5" clearance. I find it somewhat difficult to accept a Hummer got stuck in the same conditions you drove through.

A foot of snow, less the snow I was compressing under my wheels, lifting me up a bit, must have been right around the 8.5" mark.
Whether you accept it or not with the Hummer, it happened. Maybe he was in a deeper drift, or had no driving skill, or whatever other reason, but he was good and stuck, and I went around him.
My guess would be lack of driving ability. The few people I know who are owners of grossly over the top vehicles tend to be people who are over compensating for lacking in other areas.

Yeah so I did end up going out last night, roads were pretty bad but not that bad. By the time I left (around 8pm) everything on main roads was plowed but with a layer of snow. What's funny is anywhere north of Barrie roads are like that often as snow isn't really plowed as crazily as it is here. Yet there people drive anyway, here the media bombards you with the scare tactics I guess
I think if more people were actually out driving it would have been better because the snow would have melted/cleared under car tyre tracks, (I think most people know what I mean by this).
I actually have summer tyres on the rear of my car still as I have to replace one winter tyre (so I'm buying two new ones for the axle) due to a problem with it...
So of course with two winters up front and two Eagle F1 GS-D3s at rear it made for some "fun" times wth the rear end sliding with barely any angle on the steering axle... Like changing lanes was enough to have it slide around--good times.
Really it wasn't that bad tough but it's a good thing my TireRack order will be ready this week... Today on the other hand, I think all main roads are totally clear, with only side/residential streets with any snow left really--again that traffic just wears the snow away ;) Next time it snows, everyone should go out driving clear it up a little quicker, LOL.

I drove at 12pm, 2pm, 5pm, 6:30pm around Markham. I did not have any problem with my van. However, I did see small cars with small wheels stuck in a plaza where I went for dim sum at noon. That parking lot was not even plowed once at that time.
Many cars were super slow when they did not have to be that slow. They hit brake too much when they did not have to. There was no car in front of them. If they just took the foot off the gas, the car would slow down pretty fast. No need to hit the brake to slow down at all.
When I drove back home down on McCowan, I did see a street (intersect with McCowan with traffic light) has a 3 to 4 feet snow bank in front of it. There were couple cars on that side street stopped in front of that light and did not know what to do. ;)

I would not say it is a lot of snow. That was one of the easy shoveling comparing with any wet snow situation. My street had worse shape before. I would say my street is pretty good at this moment.
