Looking for some input on a car system.
I'm thinking about buying a new sound system for my car. ATM i'm thinking about either 2 10inch JBL or Rockford subwoofers (with box), or 1 12inch JBL (with box).
For a 08 SE Lancer, what would you suggest?

Go with a single 12". A properly tuned and built box will sound great and take up less space and weight than 2 10s. Except in SPL competitions.

What genre of music do you listen to, and what kind of power are you looking for? A single 10" may be enough for you as long as the box is properly tuned as rf134a suggests.

i got 2... 7inch subs or something lmao. EU-700s from elemental designs. i think they do pretty gd. and they take up zero trunk space =)

Just get a 10" I was told they have a faster response time. You can do dual, but a single 10" usually does the job.

Depends on your needs. What kind of output are you looking for? Do you value sound quality or do you just want something that can thump loud? What kind of enclosure do you want? Do you want to upgrade it in the future?
Go on a car audio site, read some reviews, and determine what meets your needs at a price point you can swallow.

I listen to alot of Linkin Park, etc .
The box is pre-built, with the amp already inside - I assume that would mean it should be properly tuned/built as you asked rf134a.
I don't think i'd be looking to upgrade later, this will probably be it as far as sound system goes.

I have just a single 10" in a pre-built box and it sounds great once it was tuned properly. I love the extra space in the trunk as well which is a big plus as its louder then my friends 2 x 12's.

10" Have faster response and 12"s have a louder thunk. Two 10's would help with the volume but still keet the fast response as it pushes less air and therefore moving back and forth faster..
also, in the lancer, the GTS at least, has a premium sound system, that means you'll have to do an amp bypass...which is time consuming and costly

Yeah usually 1x 10" is enough for most people. I picked up a 10" Audiobling from Spray, it sounds surprisingly good in my buddy's sedan. Great response and tight bass.

This is true, I have 2 Kaption 12" SPL Subs in my Cadillac Catera, and after ripping them for some time, I have stuff rattling in my car here and there. I have recently purchased a '08 Lancer GTS and will be picking up Monday, and will eventually be transferring the two 12's over to the Lancer.
I figure I will just refrain from ripping these badboys, because if they loosened up my Cadillac, I would be worried to what they would do to the Lancer.

Yeah the 10's hit quicker and the 12's hit louder. I am curious by what you mean by "premium" sound system though, I know the base models have a 4-speaker system and the GTS has a 6 speaker system, but there is the 'sound' package which adds the Fosgate deck and 10" sub in the back.
Will you still need to do an amp bypass on a 6-speaker system?
