I just purchased 4 tires from www.tirerack.com for about $650 including GST, PST and shipping ($93 shipping to Scarborough) minus 100 dollars Michelin rebate, for a total of around $550. (Michelin Exalto A/S 205-55-r16 tires)
The tire prices on tirerack.com are a lot cheaper than here in Canada and since the shipping is less then a hundred dollars, I think its a very good deal.
I confirmed with Michelin web support that if I purchased the tires from a US online retailer the $100 Canadian rebate would still apply!

I *called* Michelin and they said that the rebate promotion is only valid for Canadian Retailers. She said specifically that it would not apply for purchases from the Tire Rack.

I think OP purchased the tires on a false presumption and will either not get his rebate or get a letter saying it was not approved eventually.

- RFD Economy/Compact/Sport Compact Car of the Year
- RFD Sports Coupe/Roadster of the Year

- More pending on request

Entry Regulations
*************

1. Entries are limited to how many vehicles you possess. Although we would like to limit it to personal ownership; family members and partners vehicles will also be considered.

2. In the event that your multiple entries wins each selected category; only one vehicle from your entries will be selected to compete in the 2008 RFD Car of the Year contest.

3. By posting images of vehicles in this contest; you hereby accept and acknowledge that all images are not infringing on any copyright/trademark agreements and you are giving your consent to the author to repost these images (limited only to contest related material).

4. You are limited to 4 pictures PER vehicle; all images must be smaller than a 800X600 resolution. If need be; the author will resize your images to this regulation.

5. No modification beyond adjusting contrast ratio or resizing images will be allowed for any entries. Any such modifications; if detected; will result in an automatic forfeit and being disqualified from current and future RFD Car of the Year contest.

6. In the event you are unable to find a file host (imageshack, etc.); you may send a private message to the author and he will host your image files upon your consent. In the event you would like to terminate the hosting of such files; you may send a private message to the author who will remove your images off his webspace.

7. Winners of each respected segment will have their images put onto the author's webspace. This is only done to ensure the reliability in the hosting of images and to ensure they are not erased in the future. If you would like for this not to occur; please contact the author and he will remove the images off his webspace.

Voting Regulations
**************

1. You are only allowed to vote once per entry poll. Any duplicate votes or votes determined to be from you (per advice from moderators/administrators) will result in your vehicle being disqualified and forfeiting from current and future RedFlagDeals Car of the Year contest. If you submit duplicate votes for another contestant's vehicle; your duplicate votes will be disregarded.

2. For any vote to be considered; you must have a post count above 25 OR a RFD member before December 2007. This is done to ensure the validity of the poll results and no "stacking" is being done. Any votes submitted by users who does not meet these regulations; will have to confirm manually (per author's decision) before their vote will be considered.

3. After submitting a vote; you must post a reply indicating you have voted. You do not need to disclose your vote; but simply indicate your vote has been placed. This will allow us to determine how many votes and from who are being posted.

4. Contestants will be selected and move on to subsequent rounds based on votes for their vehicle. The top 3 vehicles from each round will progress to a subsequent round until below 6 entrants remain. It will be from this vote where the official winners for each category will be determined.

What did you pay for duty charges and exactly how much were the tires before duty charges?

On Michelin.ca it only says before Dec 31, 2007, doesn't say started from what time. I bought my tires from tirerack in Oct, don't know if it's still eligible for the rebate. I'll send out the claim form anyway, worth a try.

Thanks guys for the information.

18's Dunlop Winter Sport M3s. Came out to $800 before taxes; $200 per tire. Duties was around $1XX, brokerage fee was $51, shipping was $8X; taxes was around $1XX.

All in all, my tires came for around $1040 (got it when dollar was at $1.08). To put it into perspective, I got a quote of $2100 from Fountain Tire for just the tires as well... Fricken Fountain Tire scratched my rims when mounting my tires as well; avoid Fountain Tire when you balance your rims!

Thanks for the cost breakdown. Yes that is quite a bit cheaper even with brokerage fee's and shipping. I still have no clue why stuff is cheaper just 2 hours south from Toronto, makes people mad

Strange... I sent them an email and they replied with a NO.
I still sent off the rebate form anyways

Hope it comes.

Here's the response I got:

Unfortunately not. The US have their own promos and a lot of the retailers are getting discounts directly from Michelin whis os why they have lower prices than Canada. FYI Michelin just announced that you will get $100.00 and not $50.00 in order for the Canadian prices to be at par with the usa.
Hope this helps you.

Thanks
Phil

Bought a set of Michelin X-Ice with Steel Rims back in early Nov.

This is from your purchase at Tirerack?

yup, tire rack was about $70 cheaper (before shipping or about $30 after everything) than anywhere else, the discount was just gravey. wasn't really expecting it but for the price of an envelope and stamp for a chance of a $50 payoff (sent it in when the rebate was only $50) why not.
