How many days do you have to return a new/used car from a dealership, and are there any things that would void this period, other than destroying the car or things of that nature?

What province are you in?

If Ontario, there's no right to return a car unless your sales contract gives you such a right (which it might if you bought a Saturn...).

Some used dealers will allow you a few days (kms) to decide on a vehicle. You won't get your money back if you return it, but they'll usually give you full credit for another.

I'm not aware of any in Canada, but I'd be curious to know if any provinces have it mandated as law that you can.

And people answering his question are expected to do such research?

As far as I'm concerned, someone asking a question in an online forum is expected to provide all the relevant information required for the question to be answered.

I returned a used car once about twenty years ago because it was represented as being a 1982 car but was in fact a 1981 car. Misrepresentation. He put up a bit of a fight, but he finally caved in and got a full refund. The fact that I was a reporter might have had some impact. :D
