I'm looking for a budget humidifier, but not so cheap as to be unreliable. Canadian Tire has a Sunbeam for $17, but from what I've read, it's unreliable and potentially dangerous.

There's a "Factory" outlet store on Dixie at South Gateway Rd. (Just north of Eastgate Parkway) in Mississauga that sells various sizes of Bonaire humidifiers for cheap (The high end unit is $50 = 3/4 the cost of the one in XS Cargo flyer at $70).

I have the $17 Sunbeam one, my friend recommended it. I used it last year and this year without any problems. I havent had any reliability problems, but I can see it being dangerous to kids or pets. I accidentally touched the part were the steam comes out and it was obviously really hot. I didnt burn myself, but it was close. If you dont have kids or pets, then I would give it a try.

I was going to get a decent one but my friend says because of the mineral build up, there is no point investing in a good one. Actually, every year he buys a new one.

I've read several reviews for the Sunbeam model, and someone said they found theirs filling up their children's room full of smoke (and speculated as to what could've happened had they not discovered it before it was too late). Perhaps an isolated incident, but it doesn't make me particularly confident.

I'm hoping for something a bit less expensive... $120 for a machine that mists the air is a bit too much for me.

I got the Swiss-o-air from Caynes for $199, if you use your visa it comes with freeshipping, get code from visasavings.

+1 its called the clearance outlet - I think with cool mist you get less of a build up of minerals . I bought a big bionaire there - does the whole house
