Thanks OP!! I picked this up at the Broadway location in Vancouver (plenty of stock). The mail-in rebate is the kind OD prints out with your receipt, to be mailed to an OD address. They also honored the $20 rebate, so it really is $170, outstanding price. (plus $12 LCD tax or whatever that new extra fee is) I've set it up in my daughter's room, it looks very good, plus it has (tinny) built-in speakers that I hadn't noticed.

bought it and i'm viewing it now
the quality is surprisingly good, very bright and highly adjustable..
monitor build quality looks good with a good stand...

i'm not sure if I have a dead pixel, but most likely I do... theres a dot that stays red.. if I look at the monitor from the side, I can see it's slightly swollen around the red dot... I may have to exchange it........ sigh.. waste of my time..

came to $246 in BC as well, not bad at all

Some bleed and a couple of dead pixels on mine, but otherwise looks pretty good.

Almost all manufacturers and vendors do not consider one or a few dead pixels a valid manufacturing defect - some have actually a "dead pixel policy" and you have to have as many as nine dead pixels before they replace the monitor under that policy.
Depends to some degree where these are and if they are clustered. A lot of write-ups on the web about that.
But you mentioned the pixel stays on inred. If that is the case, it's not a "dead" pixel, it's a "stuck" pixel and they can actually often be fixed.
Two basic methods - in one you download a program that cycles through all the colours rapidly and repeatedly, in the other you gently physically massage the pixel to bring it back to life.
I wouldn't really recommend the "massaging" option because you can easily do damage to the adjacent pixels, but some people have had success doing that.
I don't think cycling colour can do any damage, so that's a safer way to go.
However, there is no guaranty that either of these will work.
There is also a chance that the pixel will eventually "unstick" itself over time; a "dead" pixel on the other hand will always stay dead.:cheesygri

thanks, very informative. I will try those methods. I downloaded a deal pixel tester program that just rapidly cycles colour. Indeed I have a stuck pixel.. I guess I'll live with it, since it's not really a defect...

Like krs said, dead pixels are somewhat expected.

Looks like Soyo's dead pixel policy is 5 dark, 5 white, or 8 overall.

Thanks OP! Just bought one yesterday and wow, going from a 15" LCD to a 22" widescreen LCD is awesome!

I have a red stuck pixel as well, in the top right hand corner. It's not that noticeable. I'll run a stuck pixel fixer program to try to remove it. Any good ones to use?

So if I fill in the rebate and send it to OD, how do I get updates of the MIR?

BTW, what does a 1000:1 contrast ratio mean?

and what screen resolution do you guys use with this monitor?

Office Depot rebate tracking: https://www.web-rebates.com/officedepot/index.asp

The contrast ratio is a measure of a display system, defined as the ratio of the luminosity of the brightest color (white) to that of the darkest color (black) that the system is capable of producing. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contrast_ratio)

For the best image quality, LCDs should be run in their native resolution, so 1680 x 1050 for this one.

Mgz
Dec 6th, 2007, 04:28 AM
I use the native as well 1680 x 1050, it's great, things are nice and small, but not too small
I can see more of a website/program
but I can understand it'll be really hard for someone with poorer eyesight

I had to adjust the BLUE colour higher as the default setting turned my screen yellowish

max contrast and brightness is too bright for me, my settings are:
67% contrast
70% brightness

???

I've been using 1680 x 1050 on my 17inches Dell Inspiron 9300 for over 2 years now, was a breeze :D. Lot of spaces to do stuff.

How is everybody's monitor so far?

Love the size & resolution, but this is my first LCD and I can see why people are slamming the colour reproduction of 6-bit TN panels - areas that should have subtle colour gradients instead have solid blocks of same-coloured pixels. Black levels are also pretty poor, but given the price/size ratio, I can't complain too much.
