I mentioned this in the Chamberlain 1/2HP Chain Drive garage door opener thread -- having watched prices for the last little while, I noticed at Sears today that they had a 3/4hp belt drive Craftsman garage door opener with battery backup for 289$. This includes some of the usual packaged extras, like two remotes and the wireless keypad for the exterior.

The on-line description doesn't mention the 3/4hp power rating, but I picked one up in-store earlier today.

This unit is apparently (according to a few google search results) a rebadged version of the Chamberlain Whisper Drive Plus 3/4 HP Battery Backup Garage Access System at Home Depot for 350$, if you're looking for a better description.

Maybe not crazy hot, but it's a warm deal if you're looking for a belt drive garage door opener and missed out on getting the Chamberlain unit with the now-expired 25% Home Depot coupon. The price is good until December 9th if I read the signs correctly, and the sales rep said it was a special promo price for the introduction of the battery backup line, which end up being cheaper than comparable lesser-featured units.

Happy holidays, RFD!

talking to a chamberlain employee, the liftmaster units are built better, and the 3585 is quieter than the sears or chamberlain units. you can get a liftmaster 3585 for $350 installed from sherwood (mississauga area dealer), or if you need the battery backup, $400 installed for a 3850 (although the battery version is slower and not as quiet or powerful).

with a pro installed version like this, you get a one-piece rail too.
