I bought it for this price at bestbuy 2 months ago when it just came out. This thing is awesome, completely blows away the ipod.

I've had it a few months and I never tire of it. Outstanding screen and playback quality. Top notch sound quality - it even has a 4 band EQ! Battery life is good and it's a cinch to import/export songs.

my brother bought one from Bestbuy a few days ago when he was unaware of this deal, he paid 219 for it. So he goes to best buy today and attempts to price match it at FS and they DENIED HIM! Saying some kinda BS that FS' stock was limited or something. That upsets me because ive PM'd FS' sales many many times before. Not to mention dell. Ugh. Oh well. This mp3 player is very sweet btw guys. Very light and thin.

i own the 4gb zen v plus and it's awesome but this is a cold deal.

Reason: For sheer capacity, the Apple ipod 5.5 G (30gb) is available for the same price from the apple.ca refurb store.

Yes, SQ wise, the creative is far better though.

I bought it last time around when the deal was on. I returned it though. I was not overly impressed with the device. Sound quality is good on this device. Aside from that there is not much else going for it. Quite a bit bigger than the ipod shuffle, cheap build quality (light from the screen was noticeable through the side joints making me wonder how well the thing was put together. Also, the way I see it, the coating on the back of the unit seems vulnerable to scrapping after some use - rather than surface scratches. Takes a while to power up and the menus were difficult to navigate IMO.

Mine sits around in my pants all the time, never scratches. In terms of build quaity it's better than the ipod, that much is certain. You're just being picky, this is definitely among the best mp3 players I've seen in a while.

Also mine takes half a second to power up, sounds like you got a defective unit, navigation is a cinch and every bit as intuitive as the ipod (I've had both).

Beautiful form factor, sound quality is top notch, boasts an FM radio...this thing is the swiss army knife of mp3 players. TO creative, a job well done!

Bought one a while ago at this price and returned it. Awesome screen and decent audio quality, but I don't like how all videos have to be converted to the resolution of the screen before transferring them to the player. I've been spoiled by the Zen Vision M and Vision W.

FS grand opening sale flyer had the 8GB Zen V for $99 this past weekend. They were all gone in Whitby by 10:30 Friday morning but I ordered one online the night before for $199 and got it for the sale price Friday.

A friend of mine recently bought this and did his research before buying. Apparently the slow startup issue was fixed with a new firmware. He told me after applying the latest firmware, this thing was amazing. There was also problems with the SD expansion slot which was fixed with firmware. For thos people comparing this to a 30 GB ipod, this is flash based, not HD based. For those mentioning it's bigger than a shuffle, it also has a screen. Those aren't apples to apples comparisons. It needs to be compared to the Nano.

i have dropped the 4gb zen v plus more times than i can remember. not a crack, dent, chip or loss in functionality. i use it in the gym, on my runs, in bitter cold and in high summer temperatures without a case at all. survived everything so far. build quality as far as i am concerned, is rock solid.

interesting... maybe it was just a bad first batch. I bought it the second week after its release, back in September. I was surprised to see it go for the same price back then...

Also, just to clarify, I noticed that I referred to the shuffle in my post, but meant to say the nano. Not that it matters that much anymore after everything that has been said... :D

Totally agree. When you first hold the Zen V (or Zen), they feel too plastic and lightweight. But once you own for a while, you realize that they did that intentionally...its light weight means it can take many many drops without much more than a small mark, and it won't dent. Its one of the more durable things I've owned.

My sister loves this player she got a month or so ago. She watches movies on the thing and the features is amazing. You can't really compare this with an ipod nano either since the nano doesn't have a lot of the features that this zen has. This little mp3 player can do voice recording, radio etc. while the nano's can't.

I got this player on Saturday, after getting a defective one about three weeks ago and returning it.

The problem with slow bootup was fixed with a recent firmware upgrade, which might explain one of the posters' complaints above. It beats the iPod nano in a few ways: the screen is substantially larger; it's cheaper at regular retail ($119 at tddirect.ca for the 4 GB - I pricematched and got it at NCIX.com); it's compatible with music subscription services like Rhapsody; and, it has an SD HC card slot for future expansion.

I love the player so far. The screen is gorgeous and the new one has worked flawlessly so far.

Although, I'm an iPod fan, this is a good player and for this price it's a great deal!

It's a nice-looking player, for sure. But I'm sticking to my Cowon D2, which trumps the Zen in sound quality, video playback and compatability, battery life (does approx. 52 hours music and 10 hours of video, not just on paper either), touchscreen navigation, and SDHC support.

Tell you brother to return it, and get it from FS instead. There is a 30 days refund policy AND price guarantee. If they dont honor the latter, just return the whole thing then. All these companies, they try to screw us over.

+1 that was the BEST PRICE, $179 is warm when you can get a sandisk view for the same price or a 8gb nano for $20 more

Yeah, I thought hard about the Cowon D2 and almost went for it. Its SD integration is better, and I love the battery life. But it's hard to manipulate touch screen controls when the player's in your pocket.
