I do not want anything fancy... just cook nice steaks for 4 with propane.
When is the best time to buy and where? I was looking at the Basic Broil Mate for $200 from HD but they are not on sale anymore.
What do you guys suggest?

my brother and I have the broil king/broil mate, very happy with it. Mine regular price was like $330, remember paying something like $200 before tax during the Christmas/Boxing week

Good idea but does anyone here have problems with picking up/buying used BBQs from people? I guess you can just wash the grill thoroughly and they should be good to go again?

I got a broilmate from Home Depot when it was on sale (natural gas model) and love it. Considering it only cost $230 with full assembly, I am not complaining.

I bought a Weber (the Gold B model) as they have a really good history of really good grills that last quite a long time. For me, that means good value.
Their "starter" line appears to be the Weber Spirit series. Canadian prices (at least at Home Depot) are really out to lunch so the best deal is to get it from the States (probably around US$300)

US Home Depot pricing is here:

Depending on how "Value" you are looking for (and If you are near a McDiarmid Lumber) I bought a similar Fiesta BBQ from HBC Last year and am very happy with it...

OR look for a price match somewhere for it..

We actually got ours of freecycle. We had to replace the element (cost of $40) and it didn't come with a propane tank (but we had one left behind at our house by the previous owners). Now it works fine, its nothing fancy but my husband and I don't need anything fancy.
Biggest problem with this: they're high demand items and near impossible to get. It was a real fluke that we got ours.

If you are in the Brampton area you could go to the Fiesta Factory. they have an on site shop there. You can get a decent - large bbq for $200. or a smaller one for $150 plus taxes.

I'm moving to Brampton this weekend. Where is this Fiesta Factory?
Can anyone comment on the quality of the Fiesta?

I used to have a sears bbq that was a re-branded fiesta. It was pretty good, not high end but functional. Parts were cheap and easy to come by, so if I wanted to keep it running indefinitely, it would have been easy to do so. Probably a good idea to check out the Fiesta sale. I saw an ad not long ago for scratched and dented models at the factory.

Damn I got screwed by Craigslist.
I picked this up for $125 (brand new).

An extremely basic Broil Mate 1302 4 LP. The guy told me it was the $199 at Home Depot which is the 50K dual H burner and cast iron grilling grids. This one I bought is 30K with heavy metal grid.
I hope this one lives up to its name... on the bright side, a "Master Chef" would cost me $100 at Canadian Tire.
