OK so so some of you may have heard of the Festivus Pole from Seinfeld.

I am planning on building one, but unfortunately my DIY construction skills are lacking.

I was thinking of using a hollow pole and using sturdy, square edged 4 6x6 L brackets secured to form a cross base.

Where can I get a pole from that would be soft enough metal to drill through. I have no welding experience or access so thats out.

Anyone have any ideas? This could be a fun project!

I was also thinking of securing each set of 2 brackets with long bolts through the pole to make it sturdier.

abs pipe with a flange glued to the bottom so you can screw it to the floor maybe?

It needs to be metal and it is only for fun, not a permanent fixture to screw into the floor!

I'm hearing that a fence post would be good bet, soft enough to drill through.
