LF Central Humidifier

I'm looking for a central humidifier for our house, priced well and a good system. I looked at our system and was shocked, the metal grating is white and brown from major rusting.

Do you have a humidifier that has a vertical piece of "mesh" like http://www.ontimemall.com/media/ss_size2/10.jpg?

If so, the white stuff is just scale deposits, and the rust is probably normal. You just replace the filter annually for less than $20 and take out the surrounding plastic bracket for a quick rinse or scrub.

The mesh looked so rusted brown and white that it freaked me out and I was thinking oh gosh, we gotta replace the whole thing now...

Do I need to get the exact mesh replacement for my model or do they come in generic sizes? I've never had to buy this so I wouldn't know, I believe our unit is branded "York".

Where can I buy these meshes? Cdn Tire or Home Depot?

CT or HD both have them instock, there are about 2-3 standard sizes, they are super cheap, I think about $12, it's a little messy if it's covered in the white scales, so you might want to put a larger sink/tub to clean it when you take it out. I had a tough time cleaning ours, I had to use some lime clean up, like CLR or something. I also had a super tough time to take off the old filter, so I all I did was use scissors to cut it off. Take it out and measure all three dimensions. The generic brands they sell in hardware stores may not list your humidifier on the packaging, but you'll probably find one that fits if you have the measurements handy. You can also get a slightly smaller one if you don't find an exact match since it just sits in the bracket and water drips onto it.

HD doesn't sell an exact match for mine anymore (they did last year) :cry: , so I'll be stopping by Rona and CT later today to find one.
