Hey guys
Do you know any good central air systems with HEPA filters, that
1) don't make ozone
2) are from reputable companies that will likely be around for a while
and 3) filters are reasonably priced?
We're thinking of replacing our electronic air filter system.
I'd like to make sure the air we breathe is free of toxins.
Thanks.

No offense but, how will you manage that? It is a house with all its' inherent leakages and air coming in from the outside. There is even a fresh air inlet to your furnace (needed for combustion). The HEPA (or any) filter only filters the return air.
As for ozone. almost every appliance in your house makes ozone. While each individual one does not make much, well, if you want to eliminate ozone it may be difficult.

Check the aprilaire 2400, but that's not HEPA. There isn't much point in getting a HEPA filter for your house unless you've got serious allergies or have your own operating room..

Lifebreath TFP3000Hepa? http://www.lifebreath.com/life.htm
This thing is not cheap. Budget around $2000 installed. Of course, I live in AB where installers pick and choose their installs. I was quoted $1200 just for the unit itself.
You can buy the unit online here for $954: http://www.tanklesswaterheaters.ca/tfpc3000hepa.html
Or check here for other options: http://www.aircareonline.com/whsystems.html
Check out this guy's mechanical system on his 10/15/07 entry: http://www.albo-rae.com/blogs/house/category/construction/

My idea of the HEPA was that it's a small paper filter allowing only microns of particles through. I figured since we live on air and water, that it might as well be free of toxins. But I know that there's talk of ozone producing systems ("plasmaclusters?" - don't understand that too well) but that was more for the portable systems including the Sharp air purifier that's always on sale for $200 at Futureshop.

A recent issue of Consumer Reports did a report. I don't have it handy. You can look up which issue on their website.
