Just bought some new ikea stuff...trying to assemble...I have stripped one of the large screws which require the ikea allen key. Any ideas on how to get it to turn another 5-6 times!!!
Any help appreciated!

Thats surprising, Ikea stuff is usually such high quality :). More info please....
Is it already screwed in or only partially in? Are you trying to screw it all the way in and forget it, or screw it out in order to replace it with a new one?
When you say its stripped do you mean the head is stripped so it wont hold the allen key, or the thread in the hole is stripped?

If you're lucky, then you can still manage to un-screw it, and if so, then bring it back to exchange it at Ikea.

Otherwise, Sears/Craftsman makes a handy little kit that is strictly for removing stripped screws.

Good luck!

You want to push a screw in? lol. You do know how a screw works right?

Take a picture, then we can give you some ideas. Perhaps use pliers to tighten it. Like so:

What if you ever have to take it out?

Get it returned now, rather than later.

I'd take it out with pliers, vise-grips etc. and replace it. Or if it seems ot be sufficiently grabbing, and not in a visible area, cut the remainign part off with a hack saw or sawzall.

A neat trick I've used in the past when a screw head was stripped (usually cheap Philips screws): use a Dremel tool with a cut-off wheel to cut a groove in the head, then use a slot screwdriver to remove the screw.

Good luck!

I remember seeing a TV ad on this Sears product:

Good advice, I have done this before and it works well. Problem is that you have a damaged screw (bolt etc) that is visible and it does not look good.

I have this tool and it has worked in all the applications I have used it for. Remember that it is for extraction only.

Stealth is right, take it out with pliers and get a new one.

Ikea will give you new ones for free. Home Depot may also sell those screws too (if they are more handy to you).

Its rare, but happens. Usually due to
1) using the wrong key (either metric or SAE when the other is required).
2) wrong size
3) cheap allen keys that slip.
4)trying something "questionable" like using a screwgun to drive allen keys

Crap screws will also be easily stripped by allen keys (unless you're careful)

i would just dremel or hacksaw a slot for a flathead, screw it in, and get the plastic plug to cover it.
wait....
you have to go to ikea anyways to get the plug , so you might as well replace it.

theres a drawer full of hardware by customer service, you dont have to talk to anyone, just walk up and take what you need.
