NEW UPDATES

Turns out the dates are correct. The updated redemption values are as follows:

30,000 points = $75 (regular $55)
40,000 points = $100 (regular $75)
75,000 points = $200 (regular $150)

OLD INITIAL POST:

I read on another forum that Shoppers Drug Mart will be having a bonus redemption day the weekend immediately following the referal 20x points event. I don't have anymore details other than the person who posted this on the other forum found out from a friend who works at a printing press and saw the advertisement leaflets that they often have at the stores being printed.

This is great news for all of us who will be collecting a lot of points. Get your shopping lists ready!

Remember to buy stuff on sale, look for items that have additional bonus points attached to them, and to print out bonus point coupons at the ATMs using your optimum card (most stores do NOT have ATMs). Search on shoppersdrugmart.ca for stores in your area. There is an "ATM" checkbox in the search utility there to show only stores that have ATMs.

EDIT:

I should also note that the redemption, as usual, are PROBABLY:

40,000 points = $100 (regular $75)
75,000 points = $200 (regular $150)

Amounts are slightly different in Quebec at Pharmaprix.

shoppers give out optimum points when u withdraw cash from their atm machines. There is one located at Yonge and Richmond where I first saw it.

You don't have to withdrawal cash. You only need to put in your optimum card and request coupons.

what is "print out bonus point coupons at the ATMs using your optimum card "

I assume you know what an ATM is, so I won't explain that. Not all stores have ATMs ... but some do. ATMs at Shoppers are different than regular ATMs in that they let you insert your Shoppers Optimum Card instead of your bank card and once you do so it will ask you if you want to print out bonus points coupons. Agree to do so and it will print one slip of paper with 3 barcodes with different bonus point offers on them.

Repeat this process anywhere from 3 to 6+ times and it will print different offers for you. Sometimes you will get the same offers repeated. Once you start getting a lot of repeats you might as well stop because you've probably gotten most of the available offers.

The coupons will read something like this "buy any paper towel product and get 500 bonus points".

Go find some paper towel that is on sale, pay for it using your points, and give the cashier the coupon to scan during the checkout process and you will get the paper towel for free along with earning some bonus points to help cancel out the points you used to pay for your purchase.

It's all about maximizing the points :D

You MUST pay the tax. Your subtotal before tax must be above the amount you are redeeming. If your subtotal is BELOW, they can actually still redeem the points and you won't get their full value. Buyer beware.

Some cashiers aren't well trained ... you need to be smarter than them.

It's more than just "heard", there will definitely be one in December.
Only reason I can't confirm the date is that I haven't asked for a specific date since I last heard, they knew it was in December though.

And the points will be in everyone's account prior to the redemption, don't worry they WANT you to redeem of course.

Been waiting for this for a long time. When was the last time? I think it was around May.

OK, so what high ticket item can I spend my points?

Cameras are the most prevalent. Seems that is the most expensive item in some stores.

Do they have gaming systems like xbox, wii, ps3?

How about a GPS system? That would good.

Don Mills & Lawrence was Shoppers Drug Mart 1,000th Store.
To celebrate this, the store has some unique items. Flat screens throughout the store with ads and weather, beauty boutique and quiznos subs and in the Photo Lab, a full Photo Lab with the PS3.

The PS3 is not a "Regular Item" sold at SDM, even within the Photo Labs. There's been no "Test Market" for it (sort of like the Nintendo Wii's or Ink Refills) and the only store to have the systems (still for sale) is this location.
Prizes and systems you would have to check with them.

416-444-4445

Again, all of that information is based on everything I know and have been told ... has something changed? I have no idea, but I highly doubt it.

No idea. Again, Yonge & Finch hasn't seen Wii's for about 2-3 weeks now, which is a surprise because they were getting them every week.
If they had some in-stock yesterday, hopefully it remains that way but again, it's hard to say who has what and for how long.

Hello,

Does anyone know how many Optimum Points to redeem for a Nintendo DS?

I believe the price of those is around $139 - so on a normal redemption day you'd need to redeem 75,000 points

on a bonus redemption day, you'd also need to redeem 75,000 points, but to get max. value for your points, you should buy an additional $25 - $30 worth of stuff

Cameras on clearance are up to 40% off ... there's tons listed, problem is its very limited store by store ... you'd have to almost know what you're looking for or visit a couple of stores to see what they have.
This includes camcorders as well.

I'll see what I can do to help this thread out later this week.

I believe the price of those is around $139 - so on a normal redemption day you'd need to redeem 75,000 points

on a bonus redemption day, you'd also need to redeem 75,000 points, but to get max. value for your points, you should buy an additional $25 - $30 worth of stuff

I saw a note in the flyer that said you can get the DSL for free right now for 68,700 points. I have not done the math but I think it is better to redeem during the bonus perdiod instead of using the points alone.

The Sony Camcorder in the flyer is free for 135,900 points. Should I wait until the points redemption on the weekend to get it or redeem my points right now? How may points would I need on the weekend?

I thought that you can only redeem 75,000 maximum per transaction.
If so, isn't that false advertising?

Certain items have "pay with points" promotions where SDM sets a point value to buy the item outright with just points (regardless of max redemption levels). That is how I got our Xbox 360 last year, it was like 199,000 points or something like that.

The nice thing about pay with points as opposed to redemptions is that when you pay with points there is no tax to pay, you can walk away with no money out of pocket.

there are some items that are sometimes advertised in their flyers indicating that you can redeem a certain # SOPs for a completely free item (including taxes)

i guess these items are the "exception" to the max 75k = $150 reward level.

EDIT: OTOH, having said that i remember RFDers redeeming ~100k SOPs for a free 360 premium console ... and that wasn't advertised in the flyer...

I disagree. I think there is a good chance it will work. I'm not certain of it ... but I think the chances are well aboe 50%.

Shoppers does have some specific rules ... but stacking bonus points on redemptions has never been a problem. These coupons are new though so you never know for sure. Also, cashiers giving you a hard time is another issue. It may work in the system but maybe the cashier will try to stop. If so, try again with another store/cashier I would say.

I think you'll be fine.

I didn't see this anywhere in this thread, but I picked up a flyer at SDM today and there is an extra bonus level of redemption. You can redeem 30,000 pts for $75. Normally, 30,000 pts is worth $55. This is good if you don't have enough points for the higher redemption levels or you don't want to spend that much.

Perhaps the OP can update the first post with this added redemption level.

manytwos
Dec 4th, 2007, 09:27 PM
So the lowest "upgrade" is 30,000 points, which brings us

30,000 points = $75 (regular $55)
40,000 points = $100 (regular $75)
75,000 points = $200 (regular $150)

Are there levels that are beyond 75,000?

I got a free Sony Camcorder with 135,900 points. See my thread:

http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=522262

If you use pay with points there is no tax. For the bonus redemption weekend, tax is calculated on the item before using the redemption.

And according to MJM, you can use the redemption only once per transaction.
So for the $279.99 Camcorder, you can only deduct $200 from the price. You can't fully bring the value of the item to zero.

ok
75000 points = 200 dollars

279.99 x 1.14 = $319.19 = 119.19 (what you pay)

$200/75000points = $0.0026666666667 per point

0.00266666667 x 135900 = $362.40

therefore you will be paying $362.40 for the camcorder using those points

(this only applies to bonus redemption, if this 75k = 200 wasnt up then yeah 135900 would be the better deal)

You don't have to spend your own money if you use points however its "cheaper" technically if you want to keep your points. to use only use 75k and pay the $120

**oh yeah only problem with this is that you need to hope its still on sale for 279.99 on dec 8 =/

99% sure it's not going to happen. You can try ... but I think it is pretty much a system limitation. It would require a manual override that would involve them cashing out your points and then applying that cash to your other purchase ... but since points can't be swapped for cash ... good luck.

I received a post card from Shoppers in the mail and it does not mention the 30,000 points for $75.

i went to an SDM on the wknd and they have these small cards indicating the bonus redemption days this wknd and IIRC, there were 3 levels of bonus mentioned.

I got the print version of the ontario flyer today and it does indeed indicate all three levels of bonus redemption (30k, 40k, 75k)

What they don't show in the flyer unfortunately is the Wii or any of the hard-to-find games for it!!! Yeargh.....

Where does it say that you cannot redeme by buying Gift card using the points?

http://www.shoppersDrugMart.ca/english/optimum/legal/index.html
28. Shoppers Optimum Points may not be redeemed towards the purchase of the following products/services: prescription drugs, products containing codeine, electronic gift cards, Post Office, cigarettes and tobacco (where sold), lottery tickets, bus tickets and passes, delivery charges (where applicable), bill payments (where accepted), bottle deposits/returns, charitable donations, gift with purchases and any other items specified as exclusions from time to time. Shoppers Drug Mart reserves the right to add or delete products and services eligible for Shoppers Optimum Points redemption at any time.

Tip: Interestingly, although the pharmaprix site lists the same exclusions:
28. Pharmaprix Optimum Points may not be redeemed towards the purchase of the following products/services: prescription drugs, products containing codeine, electronic gift cards, Post Office, cigarettes and tobacco (where sold), lottery tickets, bus tickets and passes, delivery charges (where applicable), bill payments (where accepted), bottle deposits/returns, charitable donations, gift with purchases and any other items specified as exclusions from time to time. I ALWAYS redeem my points to buy my Montreal bus passes! I've never once been told I couldn't do it, and the system always takes it! I've been told this doesn't work in Toronto, however. But for anyone in Montreal who uses public transit, this is a GREAT opportunity. Bus tickets aren't any more pricey at Pharmaprix than anywhere else. now I'm gonna be quiet about this and hope they don't "correct" it....

Yup. Because when you buy them on 20X days you don't get points for them either. Its under the "other items specified as exclusions from time to time" clause.

This is a great deal to use up those points and get a bit extra for it. I should have bought more last weekend on the 20x the points events.

Does anyone know if SDM has a MP3 player dock with speakers? They more than likely have an Ipod one, but I'm looking for one that would work with a regular MP3 player. This would be a great time to buy. :-)

I'm going to print out the legal information then when I go in, as they can't make up policies on the spot. I was planning on making a purchase and using two redemptions, and won't take no for an answer =D

Make sure you include these sections:

45. Shoppers Drug Mart may restrict, suspend or otherwise alter any aspect of the Shoppers Optimum Program, without notice. Any material changes to these Terms and Conditions will be posted in participating stores and a copy of the Terms and Conditions will be made available upon request.

47. Any abuse by a Member of the Shoppers Optimum Program's privileges, any failure by a Member to follow the Program's rules, regulations, Terms and Conditions, or any misrepresentation by a Member may, at Shoppers Drug Mart's sole discretion, subject the Member to expulsion from the Program, including forfeiture of all accumulated Shoppers Optimum Points.

48. Upon suspension or termination of the Program for any reason whatsoever, Shoppers Drug Mart will have no liability therefor to any Member and is automatically released from all claims by Shoppers Optimum Members in respect of such suspension, termination, forfeiture of Shoppers Optimum Points, redemption of points or otherwise in respect of such suspension or termination.

49. Every effort has been made to ensure that the information herein is correct. Shoppers Drug Mart is not responsible for any errors or omissions.

If you try to force your interpretation on them, they have 45 and 49. And if you "won't take no for an answer" they can deliver 47 or 48.

No idea. I know a few stores in Ontario started it, now all of Ontario and who knows where it will go from here ...
They're giving it a chance, since they let it take over some of the frames section in most stores ...

What?! thats not fair

for some reason when the SO program "changed", QC didn't have to follow

but note that for those in QC, the redemption level indicates that they can't redeem for "100% off" while for everyone outside QC, we can redeem for *any* level at "100% off"

what i mean is this:

for the rest of us outside QC - http://www.shoppersdrugmart.ca/english/optimum/about_program/your_rewards.html

http://www.shoppersdrugmart.ca/english/optimum/about_program/images/redeem.gif

for QC residents - http://www.pharmaprix.ca/english/optimum/about_program/your_rewards.html

http://pharmaprix.ca/english/optimum/about_program/images/redeem.gif

so for QCers, unless you have 34k or more in SOPs, you can't redeem for "100% off"
but the advantage is that they don't need as many pts to redeem for the same reward value that we're redeeming for.

the "+" for us is we can redeem at any reward level for "100% off"

Now I'm not suggesting you hop in your car to drive 300 miles to take advantage of this, but remember folks, you can use your oprimum card anywhere in Canada at the local rate. Oh! I'd forgotten about the percentages since I always redeem at the highest level, but that chart raises an interesting question! Is it possible, even likely, that Quebec's 26000 point level for $75 can only be redeemed for 85% of your purchase? That makes it considerably less attractive:(.

Q. When will I get my referral points?

A. According to the SDM site, "Referral program Bonus Points to be awarded to your account by December 7, 2007." Now, this does not necessarily mean you wake up on December 7, and there they are, it means sometime Dec 7th they will be transferred. So, please give it to Dec 8th before commencing with the hystrionics. Also note that people's results on the status page sometimes went up before the points were actually awarded last time, as things were sorted out. So patience please! Just a general question for all. I currently only have about 30,000 point and I doubt I will be able to save more points when SDM never give points for buying medicine. Anyways, I am wondering if it is worth spending 30,000 + cash to get this Canon A550 digital Camera from them ?

You pay tax on the item before deducting the redemption dollars.

ie. if the item is $300, you pay tax on that amount before $200 reduction.

$300 - $200 (from redeeming 75,000 pts) = $100 the amount you pay plus the tax at the original amount of $300.

$300 x 1.13 (GST/PST for BC)=$339 -$200 = $139 you pay.

what is "print out bonus point coupons at the ATMs using your optimum card "These coupons helped me get to the 75,000 pts level for tomorrow. I have gotten 17,000 pts Bonus Pts in the last three days by using them. The equivalent pts multiplier can be way higher than the 20x event last week

Coupons:
500 pts - buy any candy, Neilson chocoate Rose Buds $1.29 = 39x pts
500pts buy any paper towels, 2 Roll = $0.99 = 50x pts

and the list went on

500 pts - buy any vitamins (they had Sunkist Vit C on sale this week for $3.99 which is a great deal in it self) = 13x pts
1000pts - buy $10 or more of food
500pts - cotton wabs
500pts - moisture hand cream
500pts - detergent
500pts - sun tan lotion

I plan to buy to a digital camera with the $200 off pts redemetion - any recommendations of 10x optical zoom camera's??

On a bonus point day like tomorrow, 500 points are worth $1.25 (assuming you are redeeming at 30K pts for $75). So you are practically getting the item free or even better!

Where are the coupons from?

Another question about redemption, so please bare with me.

Lets say I have 90k points living in Ontario, comes tomorrow, my options would be

1. to redeem 75k ($200) + 15k ($25) in two separate transactions
2. to redeem 2x40k (2x$100) +7k ($10) in three separate transactions

Is this correct? I cannot do one transaction that would maximize the 90k at all then?

So when do these points actually show up on the card. When I log into the bonus points redemption page it says I have 24,000 bonus points out of a possible 40,000, but when I log in to the shoppers drug mart site to check my point balance it's the same as my what my receipt from the 20x day says...

These coupons helped me get to the 75,000 pts level for tomorrow.

I plan to buy to a digital camera with the $200 off pts redemetion - any recommendations of 10x optical zoom camera's??

thanks OP

Three 30k redemptions would maximize your points usage, as compared to the 2 examples above.

Check the 20x list in the expired deals thread. Alot of people got full points, that missing person has more likely a more boring explanation that someone simply didn't shop.

By the way does anyone have the new flyer. That would be much appreciated if they listed some of the deals.

Umm, not the case.
Sony stereo and Sony alarm clocks - cheaper at SDM
Sony Digital Cameras - many times cheaper than FS or BB
Fuji Z10, cheapest going right now at ... SDM

Canon SD1000, when new SDM had it as the cheapest with different discount / point offers running.

Plus you have to factor in bonus points and things like that, many times it makes it worthwhile. On a regular basis, I'd say they're middle of the road with good prices on select cameras.
But then again, I wouldn't buy ANY camera at FS or BB either so ...

No but quite honestly, I know because I'm in the Photo Lab department all the time so ... just give them a chance.
Like the Wii system or accessories, for a while there, they were at par ... not so much NOW but with redemptions and 20X, they kill everything else on these days.

I have never used that camera, but I have it's bigger (and better) camera the S5200/5600. From the reviews I've been reading the 700 is a step down.. though, for the price I guess there isn't much to complain about. I'm very much a fan if the F20's... and by extension the F30's for their low light IQ... if you can find them. I believe the 20's go for $150.

For those in the Mississauga area hoping for Wiis, I checked at 2 stores this afternoon. Grandparkway/Hurontario & Burnhamthorpe/Eglinton. None in stock and they don't know when they will be getting any due to demand. No waiting list either.

For those in the area, the Grandparkway has Free copies of the Glow Magazine along with the Gifts Made Easy catalog. They are all over the store in plastic bags hanging on hooks. Inside the package you will find the 20000 points camera coupon as well as many other bonus points offers such as:

BONUS COUPONS Valid Dec 8 - 24

7000 BP with purchase of any Fragrance sampler & certificate for him or her
1000 BP with the purchase of $10 or more on Le Chocolat
20000 BP when you spend $200+ on any digital camera

6000 BP with the purchase of $50+ on any electronics (excl digital cameras)

As well the Grandparkway location has the best selection of cameras between the 2 stores (Fuji, Olympus, Sony but no Canon). Canon was found at the other store.

I asked and if you redeem points towards the camera you will not get the 20000 bonus points because the cost will go below $200. Let us know if you did get them!

Xtatik 7" digital picture frame is $79.99 each or free with 40,700 points. It costs less points to redeem 40,000 points for $100 for the digital picture frame and $20 of other stuff. Pay $6 GST in Alberta + PST in other province.

In Alberta, it is not a good deal for the "pay with points only" deal because SDM asks for the same # of points in Alberta as with the rest of Canada.

I was told today that there are different store "Levels".
Level 4 stores(really big newer layout stores) tyically carry around 26 different models of cameras whereas the smaller Level 3 stores (most newer layout stores) only carry 13 camera models, and the Level 2 stores may only carry 4-8 token models. So the trick is to find the large Level 4 stores which are usually in the bigger cities/ markets...

Thanks to DaVibe and southnam for your respected lists! :D

Good to know the cameras I'm looking for generally exists somewhere in shoppers drugmart land :)

Now all I need to figure out is which store in the GTA has them.
Though with the F50fd costing in the range of $350, I think the list of cameras I'm looking for is now F20, F30, F31fd and F40fd with the F40fd being on the top of the want list because it can us SD cards plus the fact that the F50fd's 12mp makes it worse in image quality than the aforementioned models...

Anyone seen any of these in GTA or more specifically North York?

Note: Unless it's been restocked, I know I haven't seen it at the Yonge/Finch location (closest to me) as well as the Woodbine mall location (closest to work). I know the F20 did exist at Bramalea Central Park Dr location (as I got it for my parents) but that was earlier this year I believe. Don't think they have it anymore.

Oh, and anyone know if there is any of these 'level 4' shoppers are in the GTA?

They call them AAA stores because they have a beauty boutique and the extra pods ... I've spoken about them in the past.
There are literally only 5-10 in all of Ontario ... the only one in "Toronto" is at Don Mills & Lawrence.

Other stores have Beauty Boutiques (Bayview Village, Yonge & Sheppard) but it does not make them an AAA store unless they have the pods as well ...
Vice versa as well ...

Thornhill Square (Steeles & Bayview area) has a wide selection of cameras ...
(call them and ask if they have a lot of cameras though, I haven't been there in a while, maybe I'm mistaking it with another store ... they're not AAA but they have a lot of stuff from what I remember) ...

Now again, to every rule there's exceptions ... they don't have a lot of cameras but Yonge & Finch runs sales like these 1-Day early ...
The store I mentioned (Thornhill Square) is also another exception ...
Danforth & Coxwell does some of the biggest number for food and photo lab for the company - period.

You just have to get to know your area ... I've gotten to know mine, that's all :D

For older cameras, try Yonge & King or Bathurst & Lawrence.
For that new F40fd, try Don Mills & Lawrence. I was just there about 1 hour ago and I can 90% sure they have it ... it was either THAT or the F50, but I doubt that ... probably the F40 ...

No idea what the accurate price is, call them up at 8AM. Sorry!

Edit: Okay I don't know if this is accurate or not, but the F40fd is discontinued (that I know) but the price seems to be lower than $299.99 ...

The F50hfd should be around $349.99

I took a look at the Fujifilm S6000fd tonight ... I really like it, really cool camera but I'm seeing that Fuji has come out with the S8000fd which has some nice added features ...
I haven't heard nor seen this camera come up as of yet but I'm thinking why am I going to invest $450 (regular $499, now $399) on a camera that I'm going to want upgraded that will cost me the same (regular $419) ...

The bonus is the redemption is NOW and if I want this camera, and if and when they get it, I'll have to wait until some months in '08 for it to arrive ... and if I want the redemption, ha good luck ... maybe in the spring or summer.

So I don't know ... I was ready to jump on it and then I visited the Fujifilm site to find THAT ...

I'm thinking maybe I should get the S700 to tie me over ... $200 redemption, $250 camera ... not going to kill the pocket book :D

Any suggestions here :D

And with the groceries, just depends on if you're into what's on sale that week ... sometimes my family can drop $200 on almost groceries alone (at the location we shop at) and sometimes only $50 ... just depends what you need and what you have in mind.

Ottawa - Mer Bleue - 3940 Innes Rd
Whitby - Garden & Rossland - 1100 Garden St
Brampton - Cottrelle & Hwy 50 - 3938 Cottrelle Blvd

My lord, thanks! Comparably I haven't a clue about the shoppers in my area lol.
Assuming my better half allows me to go waltzing around various shoppers during Christmas shopping festive insanity I'll be checking some of those places out ;)
As for Yonge and Finch, yeah, I somehow know that location run sales 1 day early (whoa, I know something ;) but unfortunately, unless they changed their selection of cameras, I haven't seen any of the Fxxfd's in stock lately. They do have a few cameras (such as the newer fujifilm cameras), wii games, mp3 players etc. but...oh well.
Anyhow, thanks for all the info! Greatly appreciated :D

Now they're behind again. $139 with no games or anything?

The S8000fd and the S6000fd are two different types of cameras.
The S6000fd is a bridge camera to a real DSLR. I.e. it's the same as a DSLR but the lenses are fixed (i.e. you can't change them). It competes with the likes of the Panasonic FZ50.
The S8000fd is considered a compact super zoom. This competes with the likes of Panasonic FZ18 or the Olympus SP-560 UZ.
The S700 or S5700 (same camera) is an older model of the S8000fd.

If you want DSLR like feel (size, weight, operation) and results (image quality) you would go with the S6000fd as it has a much larger sensor and the body like an DSLR. It also has the ability to manuall focus by hand, unlike the others which you would zoom by using a zoom knob like any other compact camera.

The S8000 and the S5700 are smaller and lighter.
They both have larger zooms. 486mm for S8000 and 380mm for S5700 while the S6000 has 300mm. Mind you, 300mm is nothing to laugh at considering the most common DSLR zoom lenses tops out at 200mm, thus the need for more lenses.
As mentioned, they have smaller sensors so the images would be more noisier in low light conditions (or rather, in higher ISO's).

Both S8000 and the S6000 have wide angle (sorta). 28mm for S6000 and 27mm for S8000 while the S5700 just has 38mm.

It all depends on what you want in a camera. If all you want is the camera which takes the best photo's then S6000 is the choice. On the other hand, if you must have as much zoom as possible, the S8000 and to a lesser extent, the 5700 is your choice. If you want wide angle, both S6000 and S8000 are good choices. And also, if you can't bear the size and weight of the S6000, you go with the other choices.
For me, it's easy. Wide angle beats zoom any day. I also want the camera with the larger sensor, and manual focus lenses. Thus the S6000fd. But then again, that's because I already have a Panasonic TZ3 for my compact digital camera needs (though I want the Fxxfd's for low light...) so I don't mind the bulk of the S6000fd. The S8000 by no means is a bad camera. It takes good photos and it's significantly smaller than the S6000. It just doesn't have what I would need. But it may be what you need. Of course, if you want to spend as little as possible and thus, use your points, the S5700 may bekon to you ;) I don't really know how good the S5700 is but it should be good enough for the casual photo taker.
For any of these, you just need to know the limitations, and what you want from a camera. Then decide which is a best fit for you.

Take a look at these reviews.
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/FujifilmS6000fd/
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/fujifilms8000fd/
specially the last as it has a comparison between the S8000 and S6000.

Good luck.

Oh I forgot to mention, the S8000fd does have image stabilization. Though I don't know how good Fujifilms image stabilizers are. But it should offer noticeable help in steadying the camera. I.e. less blurry shots. Course, better output in higher ISO with the S6000 should make the S6000 take less blurry shots also in low light conditions so I can't say which is better in that sense.

The FinePix S700 ($249) is Fuji's new entry-level ultra zoom camera. It replaces the FinePix S5200, and sits below the S6000fd, which was introduced last summer. The S700 lacks the SuperCCD sensor, face detection, and SLR-styling of the S6000fd, but it still has a plethora of features, including a 7 Megapixel CCD, 10X zoom lens, full manual controls, VGA movie mode, and more. It's also one of the first Fuji cameras to have a memory card slot that accepts the xD and SD formats.

The S700 is known as the FinePix S5700 in some countries.

The no SuperCCD sensor and face detection bugs me. >:(
I wish SDM had another other 10x + zoom camera to choose from.

I think that's false advertising to list a sale on an item you don't have in stock when the sale starts, and that you don't expect to get in stock till after christmas...

Anyway, Does anyone else know of any SDM with stock of Wii? I have 105,000 points burning a hole in my pocket that could get me $200 off a wii today or tomorrow, and it is driving me nuts that they have no stock.

Unfortunately most of the ones in ottawa have numerous boxes on the shelves (up here, none are marked "display only" either) yet they are empty, and the store has no stock... I was rather angry when I was in store and saw them on shelf, then the next day I got notice of this sale, and tried to buy one only to find out they were out of stock weeks ago apparently.

Anyway, I have given up getting the wii for free there, because it just isn't going to happen. But if anyone knows of ANY store in the ottawa area carrying a Wii (or for that matter if anyone is willing to trade a Wii for 105+ shoppers points that this weekend are worth more than the retail for a new wii, plus if you have accessories and games we can shoot you some cash on paypal on top of the points, either way I would be grateful)...

Around April of this year my mom needed to buy 2 Wiis for a research project. We called everywhere, OOS. Called Toys R Us @ St. Laurent, asked them if they have anything in stock, or coming in soon; they said they will be getting some in the next Monday and they reserved 2 for us. It was actually legit, but I'm pretty sure you can easily BS your way.

"We're doing a children's study on movement rehabilitation and part of the protocol is using movement-based video game simulations. The Wii is an excellent candidate and we would appreciate if you could accommodate our needs."

I think you can pad the above to make it more credible. If you say you're with UofOttawa or CHEO it might be easier. You can certainly try SDM too, I used to work at one and some managers will kindly go out of their way.

Hope this helps in getting a Wii!

Well, the face detection shouldn't be something you should be worried about. Most (serious amateurs and pros included) say face detection is a neat feature but not something that is really that helpful. It's all the rage these days but many can't really tell if it's all that helpful in all seriousness.

As for SuperCCD, unless I'm mistaken, even the S8000fd doesn't have it. Which does bug me but even without it, it would be at least as competent as other superzooms out there since all superzooms have problems in low light (thought the S5700 does lack image stabilization...).

I can confirm that the digital camera coupon for 20000 works. I got my Z10fd plus an extra 20000 in points with a redemption of 75000. Very nice, I would have to say.
Which SDM did you go to Jeff146?

Where'd you get the coupon?
I got my coupon from the mail.

Any advice on which one is a better deal?
F10 $219.99
F20 $179.99
F30 $249.99
S700 $249.99

Edited!

All those prices look pretty good.. tho my SDM (Waterloo) had the F20 for $150. The F30 (I'm surprised you can still find it) is the F20 with a few more options like Shutter and Aperture Priority (otherwise they both use the same sensor and are both excellent cameras). I'd pick up the F20 over the S700, F20 is great for taking photos when you don't want a flash. As for F30, I'd pick it up over the F20 if it was the same price, but it isn't... so it depends how much you use those manual-like settings.

Assuming your mom actually needed one for a study, anyone retelling this story but purely as a lie to get a wii is a monster.

Imagine scalpers doing this purely for money and saying its some kids dying wish or something. Thats purely wrong.

Making someone work out of their way for you based on a lie is terrible.

Also bought two of the Fuji 1GB XD memory cards that are on sale for $26.99 + tax.
That put me over $200 and paid $30 out of pocket for everything.

I was hoping to get one too. I emailed them through their website and asked if they would have any more in stock, why would they have something in their flyer that they can't get etc. Told them I would be returning the over $200 worth of games, accessories I bought there..
Haven't heard anything back from them but I would suggest everybody else that was looking for them do the same. That part of the flyer is good for 2 weeks.

Agreed. When something is out of stock in the flyer, they sometimes put up a notice about it in-store. They haven't even done that.
They look like complete idiots if you ask me. Advertising something that NO ONE HAS in the city, especially for a redemption.
No brainer.

I'm going to have to read up on the Fuji Super CCD (again) because I'm referencing a manual I found in-store and the way they describe the difference between Z10, S8000, S700 and the F50 is that the F50 has the Super CCD ... actually, the F50 looks just as good (and for the chip) if not better than the S8000 in everything OTHER than the zoom feature.
The size of the "Super" CCD seems to be smaller in size ... so that means it's doing more in less size? Or does it mean that it's truly that much better.

So basically, the difference between CCD and Super CCD for Fuji's ... seems like even they're higher-end cameras have CCD's.

The FXX series have 1/1.7" sensors, which is larger than most P&S (larger is better). The S700 series has 1/2.5", so a weaker sensor - something about the larger one not fitting given the type of lens. There's also something about the 6MP Fuji's using the same sensor as the 12MP, meaning some interpolation is done with 12. Try reading the Fuji discussion on www.dpreview.com. Lots of discussions there.

One last final attempt to find a decent 10x + ultra zoom at a SDM store this afternoon and I tripped upon a Kodak Z712IS that wasn't in 3 other local stores. It's a 7.1 Mpix, 12X optical zoom on sale for $239 from $279.

http://snpi.dell.com/sna/images/products/large/A1144293_e.jpg

After doing a quick web review search I found that this unit was a better deal than the Fuji S700. Still an entry level ultra zoom but it has a longer ultra zoom, a much better lens, and it has optical image stablization.

I know not everyone likes Kodak but is has plenty of good reviews out there and Consumers Reports magazine reccommends it in their January 2008 issue. I've also had two other Kodak EasyShare cameras in the past and both were excellent units.

After the $200 reduction for the 75,000 pts redemption it only cost me $70. Great deal!!

The answer is yes. They tell you no and the answer is yes.
Unless it has changed, which I doubt, they TELL YOU NO but when you bring it to the cash and tell them "I'd like to use my points" and they open that up for you (ability to redeem points) it works.

Try it like that. Many users on here have done it in the past.

See, that's the difference between what Shoppers' TELLS you and what is ACTUALLY true ...

"Wii's On Sale!"
Actually, that's the regular price.

"In-Stock!"
Actually, they're not coming ... at all.

"You can't redeem your points on Life Experiences"
Sure you can, just ask and try it out!

So, I can't gift to myself? And I just so happen to get points for buying the card?

I don't know whether the item being bought has a set #of points required for redemption. But based on the Kenneth Cole Gift Set that is on sale for $59 but can be redeemed with 30,600 points, using the points is not a good deal because 30,000 points will buy you $75 worth of stuff today and tomorrow.

Thanks, I will. I was thinking about the S6000 but after seeing the S8000 online, I want that ... now I just wait for it to show up at SDM :D

Skipper is correct about the Fxxfd series. Basically if you want the best image quality, the F20,30,31 should be tops, then F40fd, then finally the F50fd...Sad really. The 12MP on the F50fd really does lessen the picture quality. Of course, the newer ones do have better and more features so that sorta compensates for the lessening image quality. With image sensors of size 1/2.5, 6mp-8mp is probably the limit you would want to have. Anything higher and the quality drops. Then again, even with a 1/1.6 sensor, 12mp in the F50fd is too much. I.e. too many mega pixels packed into the sensor (also the reason why all these new compact cameras with 12mp all have too much mp just to sate the average joe that don't know that more is not always better)
.
To put it simply, the larger the sensor, the more area for which light can hit...a good thing.
Same with lenses really. The larger the lens the better (putting aside actual glass quality). The more zoom in the lens, the smaller the lens compared to a lens with less zoom. So in a small cameral less zoom the better when it comes to resulting image quality. That is why those bloody expensive lenses that pros use are huuuuuge. Which is also why the S6000fd takes much better photos than the S8000fd. Less zoom, less mega pixels, much larger sensor, besides the fact that it has better glass to begin with. There are other reasons as well but for the average joes like you and me, that's all we need to know.
In any case, not sure if you seen it but I wrote another longish reply on page 20
.
Pick the S8000fd if
- you want a smaller camera
- you want a lighter camera
- need that huge zoom
Pick the S6000fd if
- you want something that feels like a DSLR
- manual focus ring
- better image quality
Both are good cameras. Happy pickings. For me, as I can't afford the S6000fd right now, and I already have a Panasonic TZ3 I'll be looking for a F20,30,31fd. F40fd I saw at shoppers for $299, which is a little more than I'm willing to spend at the moment.

[Edit: Oh, and I keep on forgetting, S8000fd has image stabilization]

Apple came into SDM with over-priced accessories. I remember I called Apple when I saw the leather Nano case for $119.99 ...

Sony Digital Cameras - many times cheaper than FS or BB

true, i picked up the last sony dsc-w55 for 249 (but i got the pink one with the gift set leather case)...it was the pink camera in its own box, the leather case in its own plastic box, all put into a bigger nicer looking box

FS has the silver one for 189.99 and the other colors for 209.99, i basically paid an extra 40bux for the leather case and a bigger packaging box, i didnt want to spend extra $ anyways and the points were from chains...oh well its a gift (here is the link to the case that is actually 39.99 from sony haha, the gift is for my sister, if she doesnt want the case i wonder if i can return it to a sony store :D)

I picked up two watch batteries that turned out to be the wrong kind. Will I have any trouble taking them back? Will they make me exchange them for something of equal value? I was told NO on the Xbox cards, which are hanging with the pther GCs. Could be because the Wii cards are sealed in a blister-pack, and don't require activation at the cash. The Live and MS Points cards must still need activation, even though the code is covered with a scratch patch.

F20 hands down. It's cheaper ($150 from $300) and I think has waaaayyy better image quality. It might only be 6 MP, but, that should suffice for most. If you want the SLR-style type I would probably pass by the S700. f20 makes a good carry-all-around to supplement any SLR you might have as well.

Just got time to report my shopping experience on Sat.

Picked up the perfume sample set with other vitamins and grocery, redeemed $200 worth of points. A couple points to mention, was able to use the 7K pts coupon for the perfume set, and got extra 7k pts associated with the products without presenting coupon, so total 14K pts just for the set. Take the gift certificate inside the perfume set and redeemed a gift set priced at $75, with the perfume (50ml)+shaving balm+shower gel, as opposed to just the bottle of perfume itself (priced at $65).

On a second trip (hubby wants a camera), we picked up the Fuji FinePix Z10fd, $229 before tax, but it was the last red they had, so we got discount price $199.99. I asked the rep. to charge me, please, one cent more, so that I could use the 20,000 pts coupon. She laughed and nicely did so.

It was great shopping experience in SDM yesterday, thanks to all RFDers and DaVibe in particular, though I have to admit I didn't do my research on cameras. Only was told that's the easiest model to use for elders, as we are picking it for mom and dad.

My coupon got rejected when I tried to redeem 40,000 points ($100) to buy a DC priced at $250, saying I need to spend $200 real money on a DC. Is it true?

On the flyer, in small print, regarding the bonus redemption it says: Offer is a reduction off your total pre-tax purchase price of products eligible for points redemption

I just came back from redeeming 30 000 points for $75. I pre-shopped (like DaVibe) and had picked out 76.42 pre-tax worth of stuff. One of the items scanned in at 13.99 instead of 12.99, so I asked for the Scanning code of Practice $10 discount. They called the manager but he was not home, they spoke to his wife, who told them to sell it for $12.99 and I could come back the next day and talk to him about the $10.

Then I thought if I get the $10 off I will be below $75, and I didn't want the bonus points redemption to be invalid so I picked up another product for 11.99. Turns out the cashier rang it in twice, so 2x 11.99. I didn't notice until I was halfway home.

I went back to the cashier (she is a very nice lady) and showed her the receipt and she gasped and said 'oh, shoot, I'm gonna be in trouble.... ' Then I asked "can you just return the one item, or do you have to do everything over again?" She said she would have to do the entire transaction over again and I would lose my points. So then I was worried I would lose all my points, and I wouldn't be able to do the bonus redemption because it wouldn't be sorted out in time. Then she said 'Well, why don't you just take another one, it's on sale!" So I just took another one, even though I don't need it and never would have bought it for cash.

So, now that I'm thinking more clearly, and looking at my receipt, I'm thinking they should be able to return that one item, since my subtotal is $97.62 [I'm an incredible idiot for not realizing that was out of whack] I am well above the $75 redemption, and the return of the 11.99 item could be money that I paid, not points money.

Has anyone else had problems with the Scanning Code of Practice? I've done it once before and got my money, after some rigamarole, but at least on the same day.

Has anyone returned an item from a bonus redemption day, that still let them be over the redemption value?

Any advice? Thanks!

I had to return an item yesterday. I redeemed 75000 for $200 but had a new cashier and and 2 DS games I bought were just empty boxes, she was supposed to get the actual games from the back. She couldn't find the barcode on the Zelda game so she scanned the Pokemon Diamond game twice. I took the receipt back because I was worried that the Zelda game wasn't on the receipt and it was a Christmas gift that might need exchange or return. When I went back the sales person at the photo section told me I didn't have either of the games and I should have a proper receipt for the Zelda. He returned the 'second' Pokemon game and then I purchased the Zelda game. And I got the actual games this time, not just empty boxes. It was a new employee on the first transaction and she didn't know any better, and neither did I. But I had no problem on the return of an item.

Just picked up the Fuji F30 digital camera on clearance at $249.99 in Surrey, BC this morning. I called most of the GVRD SDM (Vancouver, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Richmond, Burnaby, New West), and was fortunate to find the camera still available at the 152nd Street / 88 Ave location.

I also picked up a 1GB Fuji xD card on sale for $26.99. Tks to a previous poster for letting me know about the sale price for the xD card, and Tks to DaVibe for listing of the clearance cameras.

There are about 4-5 left of the Fuji F30 at the time of my purchase this morning. Other stores in GVRD have the F20 in stock on clearance at $149.99. The F20 / F30 are supposed to be the very best compact digital cameras to take low light / indoor photos. Grab them while they're still available.

I SCoP some skin cream $12.99 price came up as $14.99 at cash. I was buying 2. They SCoP $10 off the first, and gave me the corrected price on the second one.

So, no problems at SDM. Tell them to read their own sign on SCoP. If they don't follow their own code, i believe there is a 1-800 number you can call ... here is the quote:

If the scanned price of a non-price item is higher than the shelf price or any other displayed price, the customer is entitled to receive the first item free, up to a $10 maximum. If a Code of Practice problem cannot be resolved at the store level, please call 1-866-499-4599 to register your complaint.

That's correct, it's more-less left overs through the months (and years!) ...
Apple came into SDM with over-priced accessories. I remember I called Apple when I saw the leather Nano case for $119.99 ...
I was so confused ... I'm like "It's a case? I think there's an incorrect price" and the Apple Rep told me "No, that's our price ..."
So confused, I was like "Oookay, I'm just not use to A CASE being that much"

Apple protection has been the better deal more recently.

no freakin' way.... a case for $120?

maybe it's supposed to be a nano + case as a bonus for that much

w/ $120, you can buy yourself an equivalent-capacity mp3 player that includes a case, and have money left over! screw Apple

I don't think it's too late-- I've been reading in this thread: http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=173091&page=13
There are many people that have gone back to the store after paying to get the $10.

This PDF might also help you: http://www.competitionbureau.gc.ca/epic/site/cb-bc.nsf/vwapj/ct02381e.pdf/$file/ct02381e.pdf

Section 1.1 says:
THE ITEM FREE SCANNER POLICY
Retailers will implement an Item Free Scanner Policy as follows:
1.1 On a claim being presented by the customer, where the scanned price of a product at checkout is higher than the price displayed in the store or than advertised by the store, the lower price will be honoured; and

(a) if the correct price of the product is $10 or less, the retailer will give the product to the customer free of charge; or
(b) if the correct price of the product is higher than $10, the retailer will give the customer a discount of $10 off the corrected price.

Wow, I just came into this thread to ask about the SCOP policy and it seems that everyone is having problems with SDM having items scan at higher prices. Anyways, I just purchased some items for redemption and caught a item being charged higher than advertised at the till and noticed another two items overcharged after getting home. They just did a price override for the first item.

I didn't know SDM followed SCOP, where do they usually post the sign? Am I entitled to the $10 on all 3 items or just the 2 because of the override?

I have seen the SCOP sign at the front door/window of SDM and in some cases on the cash register. In the SCOP thread: http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=173091&page=13 some people were saying that some SDM stores had removed the signs, but they are supposed to be displaying them, and I think even if it's not displayed they are supposed to honour it. Some people in that thread also called 1-800-shoppers to help resolve the issue, if the store didn't do anything.

I think you should receive the $10 off on all three items, as long as they are three unique items. If you bought 2 of the same thing, then you just get $10 off the first, and then the second at the correct price. Even with the override, you were the one who had to point out the price difference, and it did scan in wrong, so the SCOP should still apply, I think.

1.1 On a claim being presented by the customer, where the scanned price of a product at checkout is higher than the price displayed in the store or than advertised by the store, the lower price will be honoured; and

So they've done that part, but they still need to do this:

(a) if the correct price of the product is $10 or less, the retailer will give the product to the customer free of charge; or
(b) if the correct price of the product is higher than $10, the retailer will give the customer a discount of $10 off the corrected price.

The cashier probably voided the first 'wrong' entry, which should show on your receipt, so you can use that as proof that it scanned in wrong.

SDM does not count TTC purchases or Lottery Tickets for redemption purposes.

It's nice to see that SDM's IT dept. finally has their ***** together. Remember all of those stacking points for Electronics last year? Also, lottery and TTC may have worked before as well.

It shouldn't but in the past, I've seen it work on MetroPasses.

A slight alteration of my other trick.

Bought perfume sampler at 70 dollars.
Used 7000 points coupon in gift guide.
Sampler set has 7000 Bp with purchase already.
got 5 dollars in stuff(chocolate).

Used 30,000 pounts, got stuff for free and paid taxes.

Recieved 14,000 bonus points.

Got free perfume via sampler set.
Bought additional perfume from sampler set coupon so you can get 20,000 bp.
Used 5000bp coupon as well in sampler set.
Second set scent was CK man.(2100bp going on)
Purchased 15 dollars in GC.
Used 1500bp coupon from card purchase.

Used 30,000 points and had to pay 9 dollars plus tax
recieved 28,600 bp.

Total points used 60,000
BP recieved 42,600

Net cost 17,400 points. 21 dollars for taxes and extras.

10 cologne samples, 2 full size colognes, 15 dollars in cards and a box of chocolate.

I tested this and it works. You could probaly vary how the 20 dollars was spent and get more BP but this is the simplest. The only coupons that have any restrictions are the one in the gift guide book. So you might not be able to use these(worked for me).The rest of the coupons which are in the sampler set have no restrictions on them(no talk of net purchases or anything).

That's a load, EVERY cashier is suppose to know how to do that. And if anything, the CASHIER supervisor, not a store manager.
That's just idiotic. I'd complain to head office. The store doesn't have their act together, clearly.

It's posted on the front door, as well as at the cash registers. It's there for a reason.

I was told NO on the Xbox cards, which are hanging with the pther GCs. Could be because the Wii cards are sealed in a blister-pack, and don't require activation at the cash. The Live and MS Points cards must still need activation, even though the code is covered with a scratch patch.

I'm curious, i bought the hc28 sony camcorder but the place i bought it forgot to take off the 279.99 sign.

I bought it but they said opps we forgot to take it off its 299.99 do u still want it?

i didnt ask for a SCOP cause 1 didnt see the sign (so didnt know if shoppers does it) and 2 cause the sign did say "until dec 7".

so if it actually says until dec 7 i cant really say anything can i?

despite that the sign says the sale date is over, you should still be able to get them to apply the SCOP and get the $10 discount....

Got a pretty good haul this weekend!
Spent $200 on stocking stuffers, groceries, and some household necessities (timed it so i would run out of toilet paper, paper towels, toothbrushes, and deodorant for this sale :P). Also spent $100 in points on a digicam (Sony W35) for a xmas present. Wish the screen was bigger but can't complain for a $100 camera after bonus redemption that took amazing photos in store with no flash at night

That's a load, EVERY cashier is suppose to know how to do that. And if anything, the CASHIER supervisor, not a store manager.

YES! I went back today and spoke to a different, very competent 'Store Front Supervisor'. She rolled her eyes when I told her about the other supervisor and she said 'I don't know what those people do here on the weekend.' Then she told me that yesterday's supervisor should have dealt with it and that there was no need for the manager to get involved and that she would speak to her about it when she came in later today. I was also able to easily return my duplicated item.

One thing I'm not sure about re: SCOP-- I paid $12.99 + tax for the SCOP item. The lady gave me $10 in cash, but the code she entered for the register was '2004' I think, it ended in 4 for sure, and it rang up as -$11.40. I asked if I should also get the $1.14 and she said that it was just the $10 and she was not sure if she had the right code or not. And then I just left.

Are you supposed to get the tax back too? When people get free items under $10, I don't think they pay the tax.

Yes, they will just return the item to your original method of payment (for the taxes, for me they put it back on my AMEX)

For me, for the past several times, they always put it back onto a GC, which is kinda annoying even tho I paid the taxes with my CC. It was way easier for me to lose track of a GC.

I went to Queen's Quay's beauty boutique and redeemed 2 sets of $200 and still had another 75K points left. I think I must have burned through 500k worth of points over the past year at Shoppers. The cashier was so shocked at how many points I have and he kept on saying I should spend it all!!

I think I got myself enough face creams to last a year or two.

The cashier must have been so exicted at how many points I had because he accidentally packed some stuff worht $20 or so into my shopping bag that I didn't buy. I realized that after I got home but I think I"ll just keep that:) So that's kinda an extra for me.

Also, he got the perfume sampler deal mixed up. He thought that I can get the free perfume and the 20K points. So he gave me the full size for free and scanned in the 20K points. The 20k points scanned. But will shoppers head office take it away after?

I'm glad they had that reaction, it's good and bad to hear that type of thing.
Hopefully the manager speaks to that particular person but as well as the entire store staff.

Today, I saw the Canon SD 1000 is down to $229.99; a savings of $20 from $249.99.
So, with the points redemption of $200, you would have only pay $30 + tax.
Unfortunately, the store I went to was OOS of the Canon SD1000. This was the only camera on the whole shelf that was sold out. Lots of Sony available though.
