Just to clarify,

regardless of lifetime warrant or which ever company, is it true that the moment you add a 3rd party HSF to the VC, the warranty is VOID ?

Getting tired of the X1800XL, are we?

XFX video cards have a double lifetime warranty which says it's "modder" friendly. I don't know what they mean though. It doesn't say on their warranty page if this refers to OCing or cooler modding.

modding a videocard in any way from what the default or recomended solution that is on the card instantly voids the cards warrenty unless as OR has stated it says in the cards warrenty info that the card is modder friendly then your fine like if all your puttin on is a better cooler then there stock one used.

Yeah! HAHA, seeing how ATi came out with new cards and the 8800GT was a HUGE hit.. planning on upgrading my X1800XL! :D

I knew with ATi, the moment I slapped a VF700 on it.. warranty was gone!

but how about those other companies ? like XFX, PNY, Evga, and etc.... they all different ? or same as ATi ?

According to EVGA FAQ, they do allow you to use third party cooling solutions without Voiding the Warrenty. Just be sure to keep the original cooling solution as it will have to be on the card if it is ever sent in for RMA.

I changed the HSF on my BFG 6600GT OC, it goofed up (caps went bad) and I put the original HSF on it and RMA'd it perfectly fine.

AFAIK only eVGA allows you to use a 3rd party heatsink without voiding the warranty.

Whether manufacturers can tell if you did or not when you send it in for service is a whole other matter.

seems like the trend is to replace the original.... hmm....

problem is... they don't exactly use AS5 .... and usually use Thermal Pads.... better question is:

does it matter if you take original HSF off ? cuz there is absolutely no way they can find out if you have had 3rd party HSF!

You could always buy the Artic Coolin MX-2 stuff to put on there .. its non conductive & it also cools abit better then AS5. Besides why shouldn't ya replace there ineffective paste's with 1 that will actualy work :P

I think same with XFX too.

Yes you can replace the stock cooling with aftermarket cooling and it will not void your warranty (as long as there is not physcial damage to the video card). Just keep the original hardware aside incase you ever need an RMA. Some of our video cards do use pads between the components and the cooling hardware, that if your careful you can remove and keep aside or purchase at some PC supply stores.
