RAM - Backwards compatible to pc2700

The motherboard in my IBM Thinkcentre calls for pc2700 ram. (It currently has 256meg) I want to upgrade it to 1 gig. Does anyone know if pc3200 (or similar) ram is backwards compatible.
The pc2700 ram is not around in great abundance.
