I know a lot of people on here have bought digital picture frames during the Dell DoD's. I'm looking at buying one or two of these as gifts this christmas. What are the good brands, what are things I should avoid, and what are things I should definately look for?

Thanks in advance!

Things to look for:

onboard memory, if it doesn't have it then you will want to buy a mem card for it, it would be beneficial if the frame can take the same card you may already have for your camera.
some, not all can also do video and music. Music adds a good wow-factor to the frame
The bigger the pricier obviously, the standard is 7" is ~$80 now. I bought the PanDigital one thats on sale at TigerDirect all the time and like it, it also comes with 2 frames which is nice.
Some have remotes, nice feature but definetly not a must have (never use mine).
They all need to be plugged in, if you think you know where you want to put it, make sure its near an outlet, if not then ThinkGeek sells battery packs for frames.

Tips

if giving as a gift, definetly pre-load it with some pictures! Then people can ooh and aah over it right away!
use a batch-resizing tool on your pc to resize all the pictures to the size of the frame, will save alot of space if you are only using the onboard mem.

Are these bright and annoying if left on in a bedroom overnight?

Yes. I have one and I have to turn it off at night. It doesn't even face me, but the constantly changing background lighting is annoying.

Saw an advertisement on the tv the other night... Walmart electronic picture frames $49 this Friday.... that's cheap, but it depends on what is offered, and is that both Canada/US... ? From the information I'm seeing, I'm led to believe that Walmart is price matching US stores.
