View Full Version : Issues with my WRT54gc and teksavvy

I got my little wrt54gc to finally work with my speedtouch 516, the issue is I'm only getting 300kb/s if I'm lucky while the wirerless router is on.

However when I'm plugged directly into the speedtouch I get 1.5mb connection(which sadly is the best my area gets).

Any ideas what I can do to get it going at full speeds? I mean I have a 'excellent' connection just it's missing something badly.

Thinking of upgrading but I'd rather not if I don't have to at the moment.

Make sure the Speedtouch is set to bridge mode, and let the 54GC do the PPPOE authentication.

cool, thanks. That got me up to about 600 kbps. Which is a tad bit better. Guess I'll have to spend some more time with it this weekend when I have more time to tweak

alright, so I thought the issue was semi fixed but this morning when I woke up I was getting 150kbps down and 600kbps up.

Plugged it back into the modem directly and was back to normal. 1.5 down/500 up.

Also for the second poster. The modem is in bridge mode and the router is doing the PPPoE settings.

then its probably interference.

well my house does back onto a hydro field. I was a little affraid that there might be interferance there but we seem to be able to get our neighbours wireless with little issues. Not the best connection but faster than my wireless.

That being said the current router I have operates at 2.4GHz. If it is the hydro field that is interfering with the router will going up to a 5GHz router solve that issue?

So you're saying you get bad wireless speeds?

Misread the question as you get slow speeds when you use your router...

How is your wireless set up?, WPA? Channel?

Sorry it's taken me so long to answer back but I've been running around like crazy lately.

I'm on channel 6. I have no security at the moment. I was trying wpa2 but I just reset to factory defaults. There are no firmware updates from linksys so that's not an issue.

My wirerless router doesn't even work with the speedstream when connected with a ethernet cable. It will connect via wireless, just very poorly.

I'm going to trade my wireless router with my parents wired router later and check to see if I have any issues that way

Where did you buy your speedtouch?
Is it in bridge mode?
Did you plug the modem to your routers blue socket?
Is the router initiating PPPoe protocol?

- Got it directly from Teksavvy which is a shot in nads considering the premiume they charged me but that's cool. I was too lazy to look around for a better price.

Is it in bridge mode?

- yes

Did you plug the modem to your routers blue socket?

I'll have to check the colour when I get home but it was the uplink socket and it was its own colour. I think it was blue, can't remember of the top of my head.

Is the router initiating PPPoe protocol?
-yes. I can connect to the internet, but only in wireless mode and at very slow speeds.

It was a straight through Ethernet cable and not cross-over?
Did you tried another cable?

I think the modems that TekSavvy sells are modified a little to make it easier for users. I am not sure about that but if it doesn't work with the other router then its probably the problem. Make an account on dslreports and tell your situation there: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/teksavvy

Alright, I've tried another router now, my parents wrt54g which I know works with sympatico's dsl. Still I get nothing at my house on teksavvy and teksavvy's tech support isn't helping. As far as they are concerned they've already helped me. Put the modem in bridge mode. It's doing nothing.

After connecting the wireless modem, I tried to ping the two dns servers on the router and I got 50% packet loss on both.

So it was the cable. Defective or too much EMI in your house.
